NCAA Football 11 Catch-All

Sure. I know how it is out there generally. It's just that I used to be able to play sports games online. And I've had good luck with games like Monday Night Combat and Battlefield. So I thought there might be a chance of getting a good game. It's sad that the first game I got a crappy pubbie. The lesson isn't to play with GWJers. I don't have time to line up my gameplay times these days. The lesson is just not to play and move on to something else.

Never seen one in the last 3 years of both madden and ncaa

If it's in Special Teams, it isn't in the game.

I am noting, with some disappointment, that the AI is getting 60-70% of its sacks/pressure on met by dint of bad blocking by my O-Line.

Mind you, I don't mean "he beat me with a swim move", I mean "I am facing him, but forgetting to block him entirely." Especially ends, who literally run right around my tackles without the tackles ever managing to engage them.

They can also get rid of Booth Reviews/Coach's Challenges. I hit a QB as he threw (another thing about this game that annoys the hell out of me, as QBs getting nailed are able to put spectacular accuracy and speed on the ball, unless you hit them during a astonishingly tiny window), he tucks the ball down, or at least tries to, but it hits a lineman's knee, and he coughs it up before he hits the ground.

Booth reviews it, no fumble!

I'm not sure ref dumbassery is the best kind of realism to have in the game, although it should happen in ACC games constantly.

One last thing: The fact that you can't create your own playbook in any iteration of a EA sports game in 2010 is an embarrassment. I'd put it in 72-point font if I could. It especially sticks out with this year's whole "play your team's style!" motif (which would've been wonderfully helped by also asking you to recruit the personnel to play your team's style). But yeah, no custom/make-your-own playbooks in 2010 is staggeringly stupid. I do not care what EA's reasons are, it's lame.

I think you're missing the big picture. They added dirty uniforms back in.

"It's in the game!"

Anyway, I agree with all of the above. It's really frustrating that APF2k8 has custom playbooks that you could TAKE ONLINE with you and the 11 versions of NCAA and Madden don't let you. If you go by the 2k / EA Sports relativity scale they should get that technology in 2015, roughly.

Anyone using sliders for Heisman difficulty that they can recommend? I'm finding the base game is a wee bit pressure and INT heavy in favor of the CPU (unless their LBs really DO have eyes in the back of their heads!). On the other hand, while I lost to Purdue, I had a great last two minutes against Michigan to come from 7 down to win by 7. When this game is close near the end, it's just a great feeling. Even if you lose after a good battle.

Great battle on All-Pro mode, losing to WV 24-20 with about 2:30 to play, driving down the field, when I call a run to the outside, holding the right button the entire time, RB gets thrown to the ground and fumbles. West Virginia scores on the next play as my defense decides they are not even going to pursue the ball carrier, and then I throw a questionable pick-6 (didn't realize Superman was recruited by West Virginia the year before, and a close game turns into a 38-20 rout. If that wasn't bad enough, on my last drive, first play, my slot receiver breaks wide open......................WIDE OPEN..................WIDE THE F*CK OPEN, and drops the ball. Knowing I can't win the game, I don't even get the wide open TD I deserve. Rubish.

He cracked under the pressure!

Yeah, the problem with the picks is that the defenders that end up with those balls usually don't look like they're obviously in a place to pose a danger. If you read the play like you imagine a real QB does, you feel like you should have no problem lofting it over a defender.

In that game against Michigan, I gave up two TDs to their defense -- one on a QB fumble after a sack and one on an INT return. However, I actually thought that both were realistic (especially since my backup QB was playing for the former). The CPU got one INT that was a bit of a crock, but it wasn't as extreme as I've seen.

In the end I got the final laugh...I finally figured out how to be more effective against their D (who knew I had a TE?) and tied up the game with 2 min left. Then I called the right blitz at the right time, which lead to a TD when their QB fumbled. It made me smile.

Okay, this was sorta' fun. In the third year of my offline dynasty, I decided to start a true freshman QB for the first game...in Michigan Stadium. During the presnap display, not only were the routes doing so much jiggling as to be indecipherable, but none of the passing icons showed up before the snap. In their places were question marks. Granted, the passing icons are usually pretty logically arranged, but the RB/4th WR icons sometimes switch between Y and LB.

Initially I thought the homefield advantage stuff was kinda' dumb, but I have come to appreciate it.

Oh yeah, the missing icons thing is really cool. I love that.

I had the same thing happen to me in my last game against Georgia Tech in my offline UNC Dynasty. First start for my freshman QB and when he audibled I had the question marks show up.

I'm just loving this game, finally got my sliders setup well, just tweaking things out now. Year one with UNC I had a game versus VT where I went up early in the game only to have VT come storming back at the end to tie. I managed to get in position for a 30 something yard FG as time expired only to miss it pretty bad (20 FG Accuracy for my slider). I wasn't good about OT as my offense was pretty stagnant and they were moving the ball against me easily at that point. I won the toss and gave the ball to VT who took just 3 plays to score a TD. They line up for the extra point and choked. I come out on offense, see the left corner wanting to blitz, audible out of the play I'm in and hit the WR that the CB left uncovered, one more juke of the safety and I'm in for TD. Nailed my extra point for a win.

Matched up with undefeated #2 FSU (lost a pretty bad game at their place earlier in the year) for the ACC Championship Game. Totally shut down their offense and managed to squeak out a win and a place in the Orange Bowl, which we won.

I got totally screwed though in the recruiting department, got plenty of good 4 star recruits but couldn't get a single SS to commit and both of mine were seniors. Had to move a 4* FS over to even have a decent starter.

Things are looking better in year 2, I had a 5* QB and 4* CB (both in-state) commit in week one.

Yeah, my bro was giving me some credit yesterday and I seriously considered Madden until I realized NCAA might be mad at me for playing that instead with what little time I had. I really like NCAA. Could possibly be my favorite football game since Tecmo. I went back and tried to play APF 2k8 and I couldn't adjust to it. So odd.

So, I posted an idea for NCAA 12 in the Operation Sports forum: as coaches in our on-line dynasty, we should be able to vote in the coaches poll! I thought about it after getting shut out of the top 25 in our online dynasty. I'm the coach of this team. I recruit. I cut players. I set the scheme and call the plays. I should get a vote in the coaches poll!

I like that idea, I hope they take that into consideration.

Dynasty, Year 5. I, at #14 visits #1. 6* program vs. 6* program.

I win 41-10.

BUT, because the polls in this game put to much emphasis on Team ratings and conference prestige, I only move from 14 to 11. After beating the #1 team in the nation.

By 31.

Did I mention we're on a 16-game winning streak, and got screwed out of the national title game, despite winning games by an average of 20 points?

/Yes, i'm moving up to Heisman.

I know this is beating a dead horse, however, I just got a -50pt Sportsmanship Penalty for throwing a 3 yd out pattern on a 3rd and 5 for a first down, up 35-3 in the 4th quarter. Mind you, my 2nd team offense is in the game. I guess they expect you to just give up and punt when you're up late. I got 2 warnings prior to that, but ran the ball about 10 times between the 1st warning and the penalty.

But just to clarify, it's not running it up if you peel off a 40+ yd TD run right after that penalty.

*EDIT*
And further more, if you're going to assess these penalties, don't make the Heismann QB biased, with QBs who throw for 50+ TDs on the year. Last season of my dynasty, all 5 candidates were QBs, but not my RB, who lead the NCAA in yards and TD, and that was with missing a game and a half due to injury.

According to the NCAA 11 blog, a new patch and tuner set comes out on Tuesday. In season player progression is incoming...which I think is a much needed addition.

For this reason alone I gave up on caring. I run the score up with impunity. I'm playing a dynasty right now with a TeamBuilder dynasty of Portland State University. My QB is leading the Heisman (first time I've ever been in the running) and he's thrown for 938 yards in one game, 4000 yards in half a season and I'm not slowing down. Sure, I would have negative hundreds of points in the whole Team play thing, but I want the Heisman.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would really care about the Sportsmanship stuff in solo play game. It's not going to have any other affect than alter a ranking on a leaderboard that I will probably never look at.

Maybe I will run a Mizzou franchise, since they are freaking beast in this game. Then I will feel good about making Mizzou look like losers.

I like how you think, Jayhawker. Punish the people that actually care about the leaderboard stuff.

BTW, so now I had this interaction:

3rd and long, completed a pass for 1st down (2nd team in the game, up 45-7), I get -75 Sportsmanship points.

I kneel down twice at the end of the game: +100 Sportsmanship points.

I kick a FG, mind you, leading 45-7, with no time left on the clock. FG is good, and NO SPORTSMANSHIP PENALTY.

Wow. Just.......wow

Has anyone noticed if these patches have fixed the problems with dynasty mode?

I've been consdering getting this game (again, I swapped it in for SCII when word of the bugs arose).

Third patch hasn't hit the 360 yet, which the most of us have. ~edit~ I just checked Pastapadre's page and it looks like it has come out, I just didn't play last night since I was watching the NFL game.

I'm very happy with the game play now that I have my sliders set. Haven't seen any bugs popping up, like the PA drop back for a safety. I'm not really far enough into my Dynasty (just starting year 3) to see if teams are hoarding certain positions and not filling out their rosters properly.

My biggest gripe with the game would have been the kickers and punters, but apparently this will be fixed with the new patch.

I am a little worried about in season progression, hopefully this won't break other facets of the game.

Agreed!! I think it makes a lot of sense to allow players to progress during the season, and it gives you more incentive to play some of the second stringers, I think. But, as always, let's hope it doesn't break anything!

I'm having a blast in dynasty mode. The game is so good on the field (even with some little gripes). The recruiting is fun, and it seems like they're now getting some of the kickers/recruiting/progression stuff worked out.

Well, Madden went in for trade for NHL 11, but NCAA still feels to good to let go. I will be curious to see how updates improve the game. I played it a bunch last Saturday, and it is still just a great football game. that pretty much seal Madden's fate for me, as I wasn't even interested in giving Madden a whirl.

Of course, the result of Kansas' first game has me a little less interested in football right now...

I think Kansas is still available in our online dynasty...

Wow. That Kansas loss. I wanted to dial you up on XBL after that.

I feel the same regarding NCAA. No need for Madden. I am curious about NHL 11, though. I just tried the demo and loved it. Taking my question to the NHL thread.

Today's loss isn't going to be pretty either, as Georgia Tech is primed to really beat up on the Hawks. My only hope is that maybe the defense isn't far off. Had Kansas won 30-6, no one would be worried about the defense. But if the offense can't stay on the field, GT could eventually wear them down and really run up the score.

Kale Pick has already been benched in favor of Jordan Webb. Webb is the better passer, while Pick is the better runner. I think Kansas needs a passer to keep the defense a little honest. KU needs to run the ball, and I like their HB's, but with Pick in, there was no need to guard the pass.

But there is just no good spin on scoring 3 points on NDSU. Taking on a ranked team could be pretty ugly. I'm rooting for Webb. He seems to have the confidence and swagger to pull something off. But I'm afraid his ability can't cash the check his words are trying to write. We'll see.

I may fire up NCAA 11 today, and consider taking the Kansas team if folks are cool with it.

I have no problem if you want to join back up. Most human vs. human games are done. The league should move quickly since it is mainly system games. If you want, I can send you an invite tonight when I get home. It's clearly up to you.
