Bioshock Infinite Catch-All

Got you covered there. From the Eurogamer interview:

Eurogamer: It also seems like a perfect set-up for co-operative gameplay.

Ken Levine: No, you do not play as Elizabeth. She is somebody that you're with as a partner, but she's not somebody you play.

My reaction to the trailer was like and then I was like but then I was like . But now that I've read more, heard more, and thought about it, I've decided:

It's a friggin' flying city.

So I'm like

Second, I hope it's not set up so everyone is after you and just attacks you on sight. Basically I don't want all the non-story related characters to be splicers in a different skin who just want kill you.

Ken Levine has already said in interviews that neither of those are true, so yay!

I'm wondering if they're going to drop in another good/evil morality thing where "Number of harvests > X" corresponding to different prerendered endings, or if they'll keep such things separate from the plot. One thing that they do have going for it with the henchwoman character, is that while I didn't really find the harvest/save mechanic to really make me feel good or evil in BS1/2, the 'father' aspect in BS2 where your choices make Eleanor and how she speaks and acts in the BS2 endgame was a better mirror of your 'alignment'. Hopefully they can advance this aspect.

Another thing I'm thinking about is the Bioshock bit. System shock was about upgrading your cyber deck, high tech cyberpunk stuff, Bioshock was upgrading yourself by splicing DNA with tonics derived from a deep sea slug, in a steampunk setting where anything goes for science. What are they going to do with BI? There's clearly a big daddy analogue with a big robot with either a beating heart or squirming brain in it's chest. There are clearly plasmid like powers, like the roses used in the trailer or bird control. Where are they going with it?

Sold!

Part of my kind of wishes that this were a game with the Level 5/Studio Ghibli quality cel-shaded animation of Ninokuni on PS3, but in a flying castle like Laputa - Castle in the Sky. I can dream can't I?

Ah well, this'll be good too very likely.

I enjoyed Bioshock - well, except for the post-Ryan part -, but would have preferred to see Irrational working on something 'new'. So, I felt somewhat let down after the name was revealed at the end of the trailer. That said, after having read more about the background and the goals they have, it seems like a different world that was somehow adapted so 2K still gets to call it Bioshock.

I hope they'll add something fresh to the 'utopia gone wrong' hook though. However, when it comes out in 2012, Irrational will have worked nearly five years on the game. Which is why I guess that this really isn't just a reskinned version of Bioshock.

Irrational seemed far more aware of (or at least willing to speak out about) Bioshock's shortcomings than most studios are of their own games. That gives me high hopes for them giving the formula another shot.

On one of the last GFW Radios, Shawn Elliott joked that Bioshock was the first game in a planned trilogy and that the second game would be set in the sky and it would be called 'Aeroshock'. I wonder if somebody at Irrational heard that and offered him his current job because of it. He also mentioned the third game, I think it was set underground. I would guess that will be Bioshock 5.

That was almost exactly the process I went through.

I thought the second was "Geoshock" and the third was "Aeroshock"

Good Lord, some of you are jaded. I was getting depressed in those first 2 pages of posts.

Tagging. Looks awesome. I'm completely in love with the art style, and I love the fact that Ken Levine doesn't like to do photo-realistic visuals. The stylized stuff is so much more attractive to me.

You can add me to the apparently small group of people that thought Bioshock 2 was a good game.

I thought it was pretty awesome as well. Certainly much better than I expected when it was announced. I really want to play the single-player DLC they have coming.

I really want to go back and replay the first two now. And yes, 2 was a good game. FACT.

Chuck me in with the optimists! The trailer was perfect, and by the end I was bouncing in my chair and grinning, like a little kid at Christmas. Colour me extremely excited!

This is as far as I go in reading up on this game. Other than Part 2 of the interview on the Conference Call, I'm going into this as cold as I can possibly get. Hell, I didn't even watch the trailer.

I think it's official: Steam Punk is the new Zombies.

And about frickin' time. I love me some steam punk, and I am sick to the back teeth of zombies. Someone else's back teeth, naturally. I just stole them because mine fell out after my jaw decomposed.

I can't wait for steampunk Zoey.

Accurate, except Steam Punk is cool.

I like how for some reason it's 'wrong' to simultaneously say that Bioshock1/2 were good games wile also pointing out they had bad points and were not perfect. Going down the path than any exceptional game must be "10/10 GOTY!" and immune to criticism is a bad thing, and the moment you dislike one aspect or wonder if it could be different or better doesn't mean you're 'hating on' the whole entity.

Agreed. I think both bioshock games were great, but missed a few things. I'm all for giving them another swing at it.

This is completely different. It's Imperialism gone wrong! (Or so they said.)

[edit]

I need to go back and play through Bioshock again.... Loved it the first time through but when i tried a second time a year later i just couldn't get passed the first level or so.

It's impossible to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Wrong. As we've already said: "Bioshock 5:To the MOOON!" You're thinking of Bioshock 6

Bioshock in the sky? I was hoping for more swat :(

Sierra owned that IP, and it disappeared into the bowels of Activision along with the rest of the company. :(

And if I remember correctly, the rights to System Shock have disappeared into one of those larger companies. EA, I think.

I thought I read that EA was planning a reboot (I hate that term) of System Shock. But then again in this economy who knows..

Dead Space is apparently what happened to that, and in my opinion it's a great successor to System Shock without the baggage.

I dunno... I still think some Zombies in a Steam Punk setting would be awesome, especially if dressed appropriately and handled properly.

I haven't been following this thread very closely, but if no one has said it yet, I'm going to.

Spoiler:

We all know that at the end of this game Columbia is going to crash into the ocean right? That's going to be the big twist, "They didn't build Rapture at the bottom of the ocean. It landed there!" Just like everyone knows that thing is going to die or almost die in The Last Guardian.

In spats and monocles?

Did anyone actually say this? Or did my brain stroke off for a minute and I missed that part of the thread.
