Bioshock Infinite Catch-All

Kotaku has the trailer up as well as a pretty nice article.

I think we just need a new Dungeon Keeper game, period. On the iPhone/iPad maybe? Get on it, lazyweb.

The licence was sold to a chinese MMO maker. There IS a Dungeon Keeper 3 but don't ever expect to see it in the west any time soon. Or in a form that in any way resembles the first two games.

Although....there is this....

I thought he WAS a robot?

I never did get the video to load properly on the icarus site, but there's one on YouTube that loaded fine for me.
Looks good! I liked that trailer. I'm not much of a fan of the name though - Bioshock Infinite sounds too much like an MMO. Still, if it's half as good as the other two Bioshock games I'll be a happy camper.

I'm really interested to see what weapons will be available. Sure, you'll get some pistols and rifles, but the cooler stuff wasn't invented until WW1. I hope that translates into Steampunky goodness.

That would explain a lot.

It is really funny how Bioshock Infinite superficially comes across as looking a lot like Airborn. It goes beyond just the art direction--I had to rewind the trailer to verify that the first few notes of the solo violin in the soundtrack are, in fact, almost exactly the first few notes of the main Airborn Theme. Ken Levine, you motherf*cker!

Was Airborn the game you helped work on? Great minds, right?

Spoiler:

While playing the demo the Fredricksen house floats by.

contains lies! dirty dirty lies!

I hope they find a new name and I like the Bioshock IP but was really hoping for something new.

Yeah, it's very much still in development, and no longer a mod. Clearly they're very different games, but there are enough similarities to be amusing.

Interesting, first I'm hearing about it. I thought they did a bang up job on Tropico 3 so maybe there's hope.

Still way ahead of the repeated Super Solider Project failures.

Man....so....well. I kinda disliked Bioshock, but I couldn't help beating it. Same for Bioshock 2. I don't know what it is, these games are just promising and compelling enough to keep me playing despite the numerous complaints I amass over the course of play.

I'm betting that's gonna be the case here, too. The style and setting are damned neat, but I'm betting the gameplay is going to leave me just as flat as the others.

That, sir, would be BAD ASS.

My god, I would ...I don't know what I'd do.

Note: I have not listened to the conference call yet.

I wonder if the name Bioshock Infinite was an attempt on Irrational's part to hopefully prevent further sequels of series by creating an unmarketable break in the naming convention. There's not much more to analyze within the Bioshock-verse, and this could be a proper finale to the Rand philosophies the series has loved to explore. Having a companion, especially one that may be more powerful than you could add perspective to the looter/creator dichotomy that was especially persistent in Atlas Shrugged. How would you react if you were fighting the losing battle? What if you couldn't be the best and were unsatisfied with your situation? We saw how that affected Rapture the way that Atlas started his uprising, but having our actions derive that fate could be a very interesting experience. Two years won't be a terrible amount of time to wait.

Well, as someone who bought 3 copies of Bioshock 1, 1 steam version and 1 special edition version of Bioshock 2, I guess I am excited.

tuffalobuffalo, you just made me realize that I can buy Bioshock for my PC off of Steam. For some reason this never occurred to me. You clever bastard.

There's a distinct fairy tale vibe going on at the end of the trailer, between the music and the roses and the look of the building and balcony, not to mention the Snow White-ish outfit the woman is wearing. I'm sure it's intentional, I'm just not sure what it means.

MwaHaHaHa! I will have my Bioshock one way or another!

Personally, I'm looking forward to Bioshock: Infinity Plus One.

You do realize it would be voiced by Robin Williams, right?

Damn, you beat me to it.

I give you: Beyond Bioshock and Beyondshock 2: Transfinite Boogaloo.

I'm going to hold off judgment for now until we see more but I do have a few concerns. First, I hope this isn't a co-op game. Second, I hope it's not set up so everyone is after you and just attacks you on sight. Basically I don't want all the non-story related characters to be splicers in a different skin who just want kill you.

Lara, you totally nailed the "reading of the nerd pulse" with the Steampunk prediction.

Also let's do the fun internet thing where we take something as cynically as possible.

Spoiler:

A beautiful looking steampunk game that explores 19th century American Exceptionalism and the Industrial Revolution, set in floating cities in the sky. *yawn* So pedestrian. Haven't we seen this like 8000 times before? Man, if I had a nickel for every pre-WWII game set in American history ... also aren't we tired of the *shock games already? I must've played a billion of them. Or maybe 2. Whatever, I hate them already. I'm glad I didn't spend more than 5 seconds investigating this. Why didn't he do a unique game like something with space marines but there's a slight twist! *sigh*

I love this. Yay Pyroman!!!
