How do you drop stuff without opening Inventory?

@Yeti -- Definitely. Right now it is just world building but next step is actual mobs in MP. Then after that he plays to release an Adventure mode. Where you can build a world and control what blocks can be broken and people can visit the map and fulfill the story. :)

Opening a door, you click (left or right I forget which)
Dropping stuff without opening your inventory hit Q

I can not wait till survival mode for MP goes online. But in sad news it looks like my computer just gave up the ghost last night after getting back from a LAN party. More than likely just my sh*tty gigabyte motherboard so we will see.

Try smacking it around a bit, its probably just a loose connection from transporting it. You could also open it and reseat the RAM, graphics card, and hard drive and power cables.

When I generated a new world I appeared in front of a gigantic waterfall so I built my house next to it. Here's some images of the project.

There's actually five waterfalls around this mountain and I'm currently constructing tracks that go through the caves I've built under my house which also go down a shaft with a waterfall next to it. I'll post a video when it's completed.

Just found this, sorry if it's already been posted I didn't see it.

Filthy, filthy enablers.

You can play the free classic version just to get an idea of looks and stuff. It just has no mobs and gives you unlimited bricks and in the paid version you have to mine, craft your own stuff. Plus you have health and baddies running around.

Classic survival mode for a better feel for what everyone else is playing: http://minecraft.net/survivaltest/

I goofed around for a bit and it seems to be right up my alley. I still try to keep myself from buying it, though. Got some studying to do and my bachelor's thesis won't write itself. I hope it'll stay at 10 bucks until the end of September.

Notch has said that he'll raise the price when it goes to beta. Since he's off most of August, and he won't call it beta until he has MP a bit more ironed out, there's a good chance that it will still be the same price come the end of September.

The server has been a blast! Thanks Liquidmantis! Now I'm really looking forward to a more ironed out MP experience. It's been fun just going nuts figuring things out with others. I started out spelunking, eventually went exploring, found a "secluded" valley and built an homage to "The Last Crusade", and then spent lots of time messing with TNT and Red stone. What do I consider my crowning achievement? A blinky red light.

Looking forward to some mobs and MP survival!

Somebody should build a Goonies themed section on the server

Okay. I've completed a motte and bailey castle at the top of the mountain I burrowed through and lit it up to keep the baddies away at night. I've been pretty paranoid about sectioning off with doors because I am so far away from my spawn point and am not sure I'd know how to get back.

I did, however, turn off fog and increased the render distance from short to long. This will, hopefully, help me find my first home once the sun comes out and I look out from my tower. I think we'll get Cartograph installed as well, which will, hopefully, give me an idea of where I am in relation to my first construction.

Ugh, my 1AM post did not take. Short story:

I spend 2 hours exploring a massive deep cavern where I found my 1st gold, diamond and redstone blocks. At the 2 hour mark, I looked at my son and said that I could not believe we had not seen any monsters. 2 seconds later I hear a THWANG and skeleton pops up around a corner!

Also, in a smaller cavern I got my 1st treasure chest. There were so many zombies I vblocked the room off and dug under the floor to get to the chest. One of the chest items was a saddle. No idea what it is used for.

The saddle is used for riding pigs. It is not utile at all since you can not direct the pig. It's purely entertaining. It's also a one use item. It's good for one ride before it disappears.

I'm told that should you fly off a cliff, the pig takes the fall damage too.

He damn well better if he's driving!

I haven't had much time lately and haven't done much more than poke around in single-player a bit more. I've got two bases of operation now, have hit massive cave complexes under both and have now found gold, diamonds, redstone and obsidian. I've also found more than a few lava flows the hard way. (Note to self: stop excavating the block you are standing on if you are near the lava levels.)

I've added a lava fountain from the top of that spire I built the bridge to, have created a waterfall from a hot tub on the side of a mountain, have built a floating fountain near my spawn point and have a ridiculous amount of livestock wandering around in my secure areas. I've also fallen into a lava pit while carrying my entire stock of torches and iron pickaxes. That wasn't fun.

Next I'm going to try to build a railroad across the epic bridge. I'll post some pics/maps if I get a chance.

I have spent a ton of time digging in various games and I haven't run across anything but iron & coal. Did you dig straight down or at an angle?

Don't just dig, look for natural cave systems, the deeper the better. You are going to find much more exploring an open cave than just strip mining an area. To find the deeper ones here is what it do.

Start by building a bunch of ladders. Dig straight down making sure you place ladders so you can get back up. Sometimes you find a cave this way by just falling in if you are (un)lucky. Once you are comfortable with your depth build a base of operations and make a door exit to that area. Now pick a direction and start digging. While digging listen for any monster sounds. If you hear some that means there is an open cave nearby. carefully clear the surrounding area till you find it. Start exploring.

Also remember while cave exploring never take anything with you that you don't want to lose. Also make frequent trips back to your base of operations to drop stuff off in your chest.

After reading this entire thread I have been enabled. Boo on all of you.

How long does it generally take between when you send the paypal money and when the download screen says something other than "you must buy the game to download minecraft"?

I think you're instantly enabled. Did you try logging off the site and back on?

It didn't take me much time at all; did you remember to sign in? I made that mistake and ran into that message right after I purchased.

Yeah, I did. I even tried logging in on a different browser. Oh well, I'll give it a couple more hours and see if anything comes of it.

EDIT: it may be because the payment is "pending until August 13" in Paypal, for whatever reason. Boo-urns.

EDIT 2: yep, that's why. So...is there a way to cancel a payment that hasn't yet cleared in PayPal?

Wish I knew The paypal transaction was near instant for me

Bought this a few days ago and can't get it out of my head. It's one of those games I think about while I'm walking around, looking down the street and imagining how I would reconstruct it with small blocks.

I hope this guy does well enough to continue development and make it into something really big.

Yeah actually I just explore the natural systems. Sometimes you will find one that is short, sometimes DEEP. I had the no animal spawn issue so the really deep one did not have a lot of bad mobs. I figured how to turn the animals and mobs back on and the deep dungeon was rife with baddies. This just screams MP. After the mob spawn a creeper blew me up. lost my gold sword and pick down there and after an hour cound not find it even though I carved a nice base out of the cliff above it. Places are just so huge!

Today I just decided I was going to go through a mountain instead of around it. Halfway through I heard a bunch of zombie noises. I spent the next hour digging in the mountain just trying to pinpoint the dungeon. Finally got it and thanks to my new dungeon tactic (drop sand on the whole dungeon from above and then collect all the goodies) I got a nice bucket

Last advice, when exploring deep caverns do two things 1) Try to only put torches on one side so you can find way back and also put multiple torches at major crossroads and 2)I half-wall dead ends or areas I have explored so I don't get lost in them later on.

The other day he posted on Twitter that he sold 1700 copies in 24 hours. Currently the site shows over 55000 purchases.

55000 copies x $13 per copy = $715000. That is a fair chunk of change.

Yeah, a blog post around the 30,000 copies mark: "Are you Swedish? Are you business oriented, have you been involved in running one or more companies? Do you know how to talk to government tax people and understand what they reply? Can you work out a legal contract, make suggestions on sound investments and headhunt talented people?"

So I think his creativity is being rewarded. I loved the bolded bit.

I went to buy some cokes, and instinctively removed the box that would allow a tiny version of myself to most easily climb the remaining stack. This game may be affecting my mind.

Be careful doing this. I have been digging straight down (following mineral veins) and dropped myself into a lava flow not once but twice. I recommend digging at an angle (though that can produce its own problems since you need an opening at least two high to walk through and three high to jump on a block and I have once flooded my tunnel by opening into the bottom of an ocean. Fortunately a cobblestone block took care of that.)

I managed to find my way back to my main fortress. After wandering about a bit, I managed to make it to the sea. The sun was going down and I could hear the baddies moaning in a nearby cave. I had just enough time to build a workbench, build a boat, disassemble the workbench and pack it away, and take off in the boat.

I knew my first fort was on a large sand bar and would be visible from the coast, so I took off in what I thought was the correct direction. I went further than I thought it should be and chickened out when I started getting chased by a zombie swimmer. I tried doubling back in the other direction and went further than I probably should have before doubling back again. I saw bamboo along the coast. That was cool. Finally, as the sun started coming up, I saw the imposing wall of my fortress.

After that, I rearmed at my armory, went back across the bridge and went cave exploring. I got really lucky and managed to find two fairly large cave complexes. The first had a skeleton spawner in it that was guarded by two skeletons. I bum rushed them and managed to take them out pretty quickly. It took a lot more banging to break that spawner than I thought it would. The single chest had three buckets, a bunch of papyrus, three iron ingots, and three arrows in it. I spent the rest of the in game day planting torches and claimed the cave. I finished it up by walling off the front of the cave and installing a door. That night, I mined as much of the iron and coal I could find easily.

I waited until morning to get to the second cave. There, I was almost immediately engaged by two zombies. I activated them and pulled out of the cave mouth into the sun. The first zombie came out and instantly started burning. I let him burn for 10 seconds before finishing him off with my iron sword. I repeated the process with the second zombie before rushing into the dungeon chamber and smashing the zombie spawner. The two chests contained iron ingots, string (6), redstone, bread (4) and saddles (2). That gave me my bow. Again, I spent the rest of the day planting torches everywhere, sealed off the cave mouth and installed a doorway and spent the night mining iron and coal.

From the top of my stairs, I can see the entrance to two more caves.

I wasn't sure where my second fort was. I only got to the location by getting lost the first time. I thought I had an idea, but I didn't want to risk running off in another bad direction. We installed Cartograph though and it appears that my original suspicion was right. My second fort is where I thought it would be, but is a little further out than I thought it would be. It looks like I'll need to use the two caves I've claimed as overnight spots until I can get enough iron together to make a railroad

Totally reasonable, I just wish I'd realized that before I made the transaction. It was my bad. The PSA is to help others avoid the wait.

I actually wound up running it through Paypal again, this time with a credit card. I then sent the Minecraft folk a very polite e-mail detailing what I'd done, and asking for a refund on the initial purchase -- which seems ridiculous, since no money has been exchanged yet, but whatever. I haven't heard back, but I've been enjoying the game today. Still trying to feel my way around. Backed it down to easy to learn the world. I think I spend three hours in a single cave and still haven't explored it all. A compass or something similar would be hugely helpful.

Has anyone said that the dungeons feel like Daggerfall?
