Minecraft

Single player is fine. Playing that now.

Could you see my chat entries? They didn't seem to be coming though either.

I will try again a little later, maybe my connection is the issue.

I've had it a few times when I first log onto servers where the world doesn't generate fast enough and I either fall to my death or suffer damage from clipping blocks that weren't there a minute ago.

Nope, and I'm guessing you couldn't see mine either.

After the giant explosion, but before LiquidM reset the server, I managed to land on a solid chunk, and this was all there was to see.

Trippy.

Sorry, storm took out my Internet connection. I'll post up when it's back up.

This is why I built my massive treehouse on the other side of the world. Driudpeaks' and my stuff are safe from the crazyness that is the spawn point.

Connection still down. The good news is that I used this forced downtime to get my cable modem swapped and upgraded my Internet package to 30/5. Once the server software gets fixed we're set!

Well, I got off my little port island. I built a bridge to what appears to be a continent with lots of really steep mountains. I wandered off exploring caves and mining exposed coal, but by the time I thought to turn back, I was too turned around to remember how to get back. So I found a cave, lit it up with torches, and bricked in the entrance. With wood I had in inventory, I built a crafting table and put a door up.

I then spent the next five or so days tunneling upward through the center of the mountain to the top. When I got there, I noticed it was actually two steep mountains connected by a semi-floating land bridge. I figure I'll put a castle up there eventually. It is certainly a way cool place to do so.

During the day, I have wandered around my second home placing stone t shaped obelisks to mark how to get back to my hole. So far, I still have no clue how to get back, but seem to recall that I headed East when I left my first home. I think once I get back on, I'll head due West (leaving the T shaped obelisks as I go) and hopefully hit the ocean. Then I can follow the coast until it gets me to my bridge.

Another possibility is that I can mark the location of my second home with lots of obelisks, store all of my gear in the chest, and jump off the mountain to my death.

Except for from the folks who are looking to head away from it all to play with their TNT. Probably with the good intention of not blowing up other peoples stuff by going to the wilds.

There have been 2 blasts not far from my abode, I'm anticipating more.

Ah, you can see in that little picture, my first above ground outpost from the mainland

And in all honesty, I went to sleep last night, planning on blowing something up with TNT this morning. I guess I wont' be doing that now...

Booyah. Server is back online. Comcast tells me there are still issues in this area, so it's possible there will be disconnects. But server is online.

Ok, Requestimator is down, long live Requestimator. There's a new player in town.

Syntax:
#summon [resource] [quantity]
#summon toolkit
#summon torches
#summon armor
#list - see people online!

It's MUCH faster now as it's not typing into the server GUI, this is actually a Java shell (not my code this time ). Plus you don't have to worry about request overlap now. If there's any particular loadout you want easy access to just let me know.

I know this is an alpha build but I had it crash on me twice (edit a lot) in 15 mins.

EDIT: Going to try to run it in XP mode since I'm using Windows 7.

No problems here with Win7x64. You might try updating your JRE too though.

Since some people have been asking about how to build bridges, ramparts and that sort of thing; here's how I do it.

As you can see, I'm pretty high up. I'm going to build a bridge to that column over there.

IMAGE(http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4098/4867391191_db8c775658.jpg)

Here, I am standing right on the edge of my bridge under construction. Notice that I can just see the side of the row of blocks I am on and can just target it.

And the block is placed.

What it looks like from the ground. Don't fall.

Spent my first night on the server tonight, and it was a blast. It was also probably 5 hours of playing, this game is addictive. First I made a fairly standard Hollywood style version of my name to the East (maybe? The direction the sun is in). That got boring, so then I traveled incredibly far west and dug straight down till I hit a cave. Then I spent a long time digging deeper into this until I found lava. Unfortunately, then I fell in the lava and I never found that place again. Then I started building the Burj Al Arab next to the spawn, we will see how that goes. I did get a couple awesome glitches though, that let me see underground. Here is an example:

Ha, I was giving a guided tour tonight and saw the DF7 temple near Druid's Al Khazneh. I've seen the same glitch in single player, then it'll draw in as it loads. Good job with the fast screenshot, it's like surveying. I don't think I've gotten a good night's sleep this entire week thanks to this game.

I was dicking around with getting out of pits when I discovered that you can actually place blocks directly underneath you by jumping up whilst placing blocks. This gave me a twisted idea:

Gentlemen, I present to you the shovel powered elevator!

If you're trying to get straight up without building a wide stairway or time consuming spiral jump stairs or if you just don't want to spend the insane amount of wood/time it takes to make a huge 64 block long ladder....

just dig a vertical shaft and place a chest with 64 blocks of gravel and a shovel next to it at the bottom. Then, when you need to go up, pick up the 64 blocks, get in the "elevator" shaft and jump-place them underneath yourself until you arrive 64 blocks later. Once there, place the shovel in the chest at the top for your return trip.

Thanks for hosting that server, had some fun exploring other people's creations

Turns out that by creating 2 parallel tracks going up, you can have a minecart powering another in a physics defying way. So, by applying that concept, it is possible to create a perpetually moving minecart.
I built a prototype on the server :

I suppose that it stops when nobody is around so it might need a nudge to get going again if you run into it

Wow, Mantis's server is like a schizophrenic's nightmare.

Can you get stone from mining (breaking) it with your hands. It has been about an in game week and the only thing I have got from breaking stone colored blocks are some flint.

Okay, I broke down and bought. Any chance of connecting to the gwj server? Couldn't find the IP.

I finished the ocean tunnel now you can walk all the way to Druid Peaks island underwater.

You won't get stone that way.

Light guide on getting started

Spoiler:

Punch a tree down by walking up and holding left button to autohit.
Collect the wood
Open Inventory and place the stack of wood in.
Left click repeatedly on the outputted planks to process all the wood. You're going to need 9 planks to get started.
Fill all four squares of the crafting window with planks to make one workbench.
Place the workbench.
Place two planks, one above the other to make some sticks.
Right-click the workbench.
In the workbench crafting window place sticks at south and center. Place planks at NE,N, and NW.
Now you should have an all wood pickaxe that will allow you to mine stone. Then use that same recipe to make a stone pickaxe once you have three "cobblestone".

Protips:
Right-clicking a stack will split it.
If you have a stack "in the cursor" right-clicking with deposit one of that item.

Finally read how to make a wood pikaxe

EDIT:Ah, thanks LM

Edit: Garrion has it better.

Haha Earlier I was initially using a axe, NOT a pickaxe, hence the no stone.

I've managed to get on the GWJ server for about 5 minutes but my Internet has decided to start crapping out periodically so I keep getting bounced. I'll try to get a better connection and try again.

Der ain't no justice.
