Guild Wars Revival

Just graduated law school and have time before bar studying gets c-c-c-crazy. Let'd do this thing! Character name = Fighting Words.

And Ascalon is pretty as hell.

Ascalon is probably the prettiest environment I've ever seen in any game. Really, every part of their world is. I am constantly amazed at every new scene I come across.

I assume you're still pre-searing, then.

Yeah, pre-searing is really beautiful. The game may be 5 years old and not have a bunch of fancy graphical gewgaws, but they just got something right with that game.

Post-searing is also really dramatic in its post-apocalyptic way too. And I'm looking forward to getting to Kryta. It's been a while since I was there.

I'm actually really enjoying my Prophecies game at the moment, and the Mesmer is fun as hell to play. Paying attention to the interrelationships of your skills makes it pleasantly tactical.

Arenanet really have brilliant artists using the available tools the best they can, and considering the baseline for the game is DX8 it's the same as Portal/TF2 being more than just a polygon count. Just one reason I'm really looking forward to GW2 as I know it'll be a treat for the eyes.

Invited, sorry it took so long. Busy week.

Please add
Danari Mistwalker

thank you!

Done.

Couldn't play at all this last weekend. Should be on more this coming weekend, if I don't get going in League of Legends.

if there is anyone on here that doesn't play at all anymore but still has a char, i am open to free stuff.

Just about the last thing you need in this game is stuff. Use the best weapon drops you get, buy armour and skills, those no one can give you.

Account bans in Guild Wars are done in style:

That! Is! Awesome!

I was wondering what that message about banned accounts was talking about. How do people use bots in the game?

I'm definitely interested in getting more into the game, especially with some of the special events like War in Kryta.

Main ranger is Count Montesano. He's finished most of Nightfall and all of Factions, but still needs most of Prophecies missions.

So I spend a few weeks working around the soccer and you guys let this thread drop to the 4th page! Disgraceful! :p

So yeah, picked up where I left off over a month ago with my Prophecies mesmer, questing around before the first Mission. I like how good this game looks on my laptop, it's nice to be able to play in bed in winter.

Hopefully some more people come join me again.

I'm up for some Guild Wars. I finally sorted out my login problems. Sephirotic Alanemia is the Character I am using.

I only own Nightfall and I never played it that much. If I hop back in does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of class/skill combos I should work toward? I just never really got into Guild Wars so my knowledge is somewhat limited.

Just play whatever you feel like, leveling is quick so you can afford a few false starts to find what suits you.

I'm loving my Mesmer at the moment, nothing like cursing enemies with Backfire and Empathy and watching them kill themselves. Like most RPGs, casters are squishy, monks are in demand, warriors are tough.

The Dervish is fun, AoE melee and enchantments are cool and they take some management because they tend to pull a lot of aggro. My Derv is stalled right at the end of Nightfall though, getting a party after launch was tough, I'm sure it isn't as bad now. I must actually go back and try finish at least one campaign.

Guild Wars does not demand a massive time commitment. The level cap is at 20 and while the original campaign tries to stretch that out over the course of the full story arc, Factions and Nightfall will get you there before you're even half-way done, even with zero grinding. It's even easy to get the best weapons and armor since the game isn't really about gear.

Then once you've found a character you like, you can put in more time with them hunting down elite skills (which you need to steal from unique "boss" enemies), grinding for materials to build fancier-looking armor (not better), grinding for rare versions of weapons (which again are prettier, but not better), grinding for faction to get new skills and abilities, grinding for rare upgrade components for your gear, etc.

So while it doesn't demand that you grind, it does reward you for it.

Also keep in mind that you're only selecting your primary class. You almost immediately gain a secondary class that grants you access to all of that class's skills (and most of its attributes, which determine how powerful those skills are) and a little later on you can buy additional secondary classes to swap out as you please.

I loved my Dervish. Stack the enchantments on yourself and you're almost invincible. Unless of course they get pulled, or something similarly bad happens to mess up your setup. Then you die in a hurry.

But that is the Guild Wars way, and why the game is so fun. With the best builds, you are on knife's edge keeping them going - making them perform. I love how timing and anticipation are so important.

edit: Also! The build wiki is excellent for suggestions / research on builds to work toward and where to find skills. I found that by getting a good build and understanding how it works, the game clicked for me.

I made an Assassin that uses some of the Dervish's enchantments to do area damage and become literally invincible, as long as the enchantments stay up and you keep landing hits. That character held Shiro solo while the other seven players beat up the Lich.

Of course they cut it out of the wiki because apparently they only have room for the absolute very best version of every single role, and their invincible monk is the favored class.

I rolled a Scythe Assassin in ABs a bit, the critical hits with the highest damaging weapon and AoE are nice, but you don't get double strikes. The real fun was people saying, 'WTF? That Assassin has a scythe!'

Leveling in Prophecies is pretty slow, still at level 7 atm, in NF I'd probably be about 12. Need to get some serious work in before next Tuesday.

I finally got back into Nightfall a few days ago and apparently I had 3 characters all at level 7. Also, apparently I had picked elementalist as the 2nd class for all of them? I certainly don't remember doing that and it doesn't really fit my style. Can I change that or since they're so low should I just start over?

Also, I visited the build site listed above but I was completely lost. I don't know all the abbreviations and since I only have Nightfall my class selections are limited. Any other versions of GW I should bother picking up this late in the life cycle? I'd always been told Nightfall was best for soloing. Has that changed at all? I've been playing it like a single player game that other people just happen to walk around in. It's a bit more relaxing that way and having to step away from the PC every few minutes doesn't cause any issues.

I'm the same, I don't think I've ever played with another human apart from one brief quest in Prophecies that shows you how to group. There are limits to the henchmen, but you learn how to use them. Most of my builds end up as "that sounds like it does damage", and I'm probably missing out on a lot of class mechanics, but it mostly works for me.

You can change your secondary prof once you are about 4 or so missions into Nightfall. There is an NPC vendor who will do it for you in the Command Post area.

Nightfall is great for soloists because you get access to most of the heroes. Heroes are much more powerful than regular henchmen if you kit them with good builds and runes. I've soloed Nightfall with a Warrior and am on the last couple of missions with a solo Ranger. I took the heroes I gained from Nightfall and soloed all of Prophecies (the most difficult of the 3 campaigns).

The PvX wiki has great hero and hero team builds in addition to the player builds.

Play Nightfall for a while and get some progress there. If you enjoy pick up the others. All three are really great, although after Nightfall leveling in Prophecies feels pretty slow.

You can take your Nightfall characters to both other continents so you don't need to start from scratch, although Pre-Searing in Prophecies is really pretty and worth checking out at least once.

For PvE play I wouldn't worry about builds, just use the skills you like initially. Try figure out what skills complement each other.

I'm looking at picking up GW Trilogy today anybody interested into doing the content from the beginning?

After recommendations on this site my son and I will soon start out GW:Nightfall. Is the revival guild still recruiting newbies? Will the chat be youngster and female friendly? My son is only 12 and still learning English so I am careful on what bit he learns first

before we start: I would like to build a supporting character and am pretty sure my son wants a more aggressive one (preferably with animals like i had when i tried GW:Factions so long ago - shame i lost my account info for that :(, although it seems he would go for the more dark professions)

Paragon sounds something for me, either ranger or necromancer for my son.
Will that be a nice combo or do you have other suggestions?

The revival guild is pretty moribund again, I last logged in about a month ago and no one had logged in for at least 2 weeks, not sure if anyone is playing, I've been distracted by Starcraft 2.

Having said that it's a friendly group if there ever is anyone there, so I will give you an invite if you post your and your son's character names. And the Guild Hall is fully equipped, so it's handy to be a member. The chat also has a language filter so it will insulate him from less desirable language.

As for classes, you dual class at level 5 so your son can become a Necromancer/Ranger which is potentially fun. A Curse necro with a pet could be cool to play, or minions with a pet.

As for support the obvious answer is a monk, but you do get a monk Hero fairly early on so it's not too necessary. Paragon is the one class I've never played, but it does seem like fun and again if you take a complementary secondary you can do quite a lot.

Although, full confession, I almost never spec into my secondary profession.

The key with Guild Wars though is you can experiment. There's never a point of no return, or a mistake you can't recover from.

thanks, shame everyone went to play SC2
still wouldnt mind to see who is around, who knows. Will drop you our names when we started (still waiting for the game to arrive by mail)
