This Truth is Self-Evident, the Pile Won't Clear Itself

Fable 2 for me this month...again.

With my GBA adventure done for about a week now, put me down for my second attempt at PC's Crysis.

(Also, should games be bold? Or is that books? Or wait, movies? Which are italicized... gah, stupid English class.)

Italics is the correct way. So says my ass.

I doubt "making important things easier to see in forum posts" was part of anyone's English class, so bold for these purposes is what my ass says.

Thanks to the Steam Sale, I'm totally swamped with new choices, so I'm just wading through all the new shiny (for me). I've been dabbling with Zelda: Wind Waker, but that won't get done this month. Of the not-so-new games I'm playing that might get finished, put me down for Ben There, Dan That! (PC) and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (DS). Still gotta hunker down and plow through Madworld as well.

I shall attempt to knock off Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. I've been putting off finishing it recently. Which is odd because I love the game, but I'm going to blame Just Cause 2.

Pure is 'finished'. I have come first in all events, so the only thing left to 1K the title is to mop up some silly trick based things I may never get and the online races.

Anyone wanting to boost those, just let me know.

Not a bad title, graphically very polished, and very reminiscent of SSX Tricky, only the snow is brown (which I imagine is a LOT worse than it being yellow).

Onto the X-Men...

Bolding and italicizing are more or less the same thing, in this case, although italicization is generally preferred, and are done to the titles of complete works, so books and movies would both be emphasized (poems and song titles are enclosed in quotation marks). The AP's style guide has it that video games are software and so should simply be capitalized as proper nouns in the same way that you would Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop. However, I'm on a one-man crusade to have video games treated in the same way as other works of art and so write all video game titles in italics.

Game titles should appear in Comic Sans and underlined and purple.

If it's Activision title, replace the letter S with a dollar sign.

This past week was terrible for my gaming but I still managed to put in about 6 hours into P3:FES. I find that the grind isn't altogether that tedious, thankfully, but I have taken preemptive measures and have taken up Russian so the grinding is actually more productive than just leveling; I am getting the "porusski" down! Seriously, I've got about 50 words down pat from just an hour or so of listening to "learn russian while driving your car". Cyrillic's proving to be simpler than I first thought. Guess if I managed to handle Katakana, Hiragana and child level Kanj, well, Cyrillic isn't as daunting by comparison.

Хорошо!

God of War 2 needs some love, however. I'm finding it to be nowhere near as fun as the first one was back when I got it on release day all those years ago. Maybe I've matured as a gamer? riiiiight... In any case, I can still get a sense of wonder at some of the more epic visages and vistas, and the Titans still tickle my fancy. I think I might go for the finish this week so as to focus solely on P3 thereafter.

I'm on the last chapter of Crysis Warhead. It's been a fun ride so far, but I think I'm ready to wrap it up.

Done with PoP: The Two Thrones. After the disappointment I got from Warrior Within, the third was a return to grace. Nice wrap-up to the series. I still prefer Sands of Time, but Two Thrones is up there close.

I'm looking at you now, Shadow of the Colossus.

I can't bring myself to finish Final Fantasy XIII...hahahahhaha, I got to Chapter 11 and now I think I'm just over it sadly.

Finally got a 360 and Fable II is sitting on my coffee table. I played Fable 1 wayyy back in the day

Crysis Warhead has been beaten. I think I liked Crysis better, but this one was a better length for my attention span.

Ben There Dan That! has been solved. An enjoyable, bizarre, and occasionally hilarious adventure game, but I do have a few "constructive criticisms." The odd way the protagonists are drawn, coupled with a two-frame walk animation made that activity downright difficult to watch. "Graphically inferior" indeed. Music is actually beyond sparse to the point of nearly not existing. I'm not asking for it for every room, but more than once an hour would be welcome.

Finally, the most annoying issue is that of the dialog being ...REALLY long-winded, REALLY frequently. Sure, it's funny, and of course I don't mind it on occasion, but when up to two-thirds of all actions that can be taken on a screen end in walls of text, the dialog tends to overstay its welcome. It's like a wonderful, but enormous cake; it's great at first, but eventually it'll make you sick.

Overall a really worthwhile effort, especially considering the price (free with an optional donation, or via steam), but for Time Gentlemen, Please!, I hope the team learned to edit a bit.

Edit: I guess that last bit is an ironic statement, coming from me...

Cool thread - but I shudder to go into my backlog, it's too depressing.

Leaving out some moldy oldies that I have but still haven't played (Flatout-360 for one), I still need to get back to Metro2033 (360), Call of Pripyat, Dawn of War II, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Demon's Souls, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Prime Trilogy. On top of that, I still have a hell of a lot of Picross 3D puzzles left on the DS.

Yep, depressing.

We do a new thread every month. Jump in whenever you want.

Well worth it mooglicorn. I'm averaging completing two pile games a month at the moment thanks to this public naming and shaming of titles to complete. At this rate, I should 'clear out' my 360 library of unplayed games in

*pauses to do quick mental arithmatic*

2.5 years!?!?........

That sounded a lot better in my head before I did the maths.

If you want any tips on Russian language acquisition - I am the guy to ask. I have spent the majority of the last 10 years in intensive Russian language classes / Russia / Grad school for Russian studies. I can recommend pretty much any level book.

It is a really fun language - good luck!

I have stuttered on The Void. It is kind of like a Lars von Trier movie. I do not mind a game or movie being "work." But I am enjoying reading Dune too much right now and have barely touched any games in the last few weeks.

Curse you! I completely forgot that I completely forgot to finish this one too!

It would take me just a year to clear out mine on all platforms. I feel better now.

At 2 games/month it would take me 22 months, but there some games I'd have the determination to finish, like the original NES TMNT, Ninja Gaiden, Blaster Master, and more recently Viewtiful Joe 2. Also, I don't think I'll ever be able to knock out Mike Tyson. Then again, I recently finished off The Guardian Legend, I found impossible until the last time I played through.

I preordered Super Mario Galaxy 2 and still haven't touched it yet...I think I'm afraid it's going to fail my expectations somehow...

Are you worried that it won't be perfect? Because it's perfect.

At 2 games per month, assuming no more are ever purchased, I'm looking at 57 years, 1.5 months. Of course, that includes everything in my collection, so if you take out MMO's and other games with no ending it's not nearly as pathetic. No, really, it's not!

2 games a month? Not realistic for me. Fallout 3 took me about 2 months and change. I'm playing a long RPG as we speak after a month of playing "light" games and that one will more than likely spill out into next month's pile thread. Hell, my library is so daunting it would take me a good 3 years with two games a month, perhaps more! I think, realistically, I might average one a month and that is a generous average for me. But this thread has made it even more fun to plow through the oldies and not-so-oldies.

I've been fairly selective about which '2 games a month' I've been declaring.

Because I have sooooo many to work through, I usually find a couple that I know will only take 15-20 hours of playtime (estimated by x360a and their roadmaps) then work on a larger, longer title if the time presents itself.

I'm also on a 12 month self imposed exile on new titles. My old iMac died earlier this year, and I traded 'no new games until Xmas 2010' for 'an increase in hardware spec and RAM' with the wifey.

I'm a little sad, as there are some awesome titles out at the moment, but I'm consoling myself by thinking how great the pile will be around the new year, and how much money I’ll save getting them all really cheap off eBay!

To paraphrase Bowie, I have a few ch-changes…

I've just heard on the grapevine that Gears of War 2 is having a 20x XP event to coincide with the San Francisco Comic Con (July 22-25).

I haven't even finished the first one, but this seems like too good an opportunity to pass up to gain some of the level achievements.

So, goodbye Xmen (boring as bat sh*t anyway), hello Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2 (single player campaign for both, not full 1K, may even whimp out, and do them on casual too).

If I plan ahead, and stay up late, with a bare minimum of sleep, I might just crack both in time to take advantage of this awesome opportunity!?!? I'd considered just playing the online to gain XP, but I can't imagine that doing me any favours in terms of story spoilers and 'understanding' where I am and what I'm doing.

Wish me luck Goodjers!

Blegh, we're already halfway through july and I'm only like 90mins into Batman: AA. It's gonna be tough to finish this one this month, since I'm going on vacation with my girl next week. (I'll bring my PSP though, loving Persona 3 Portable...) I'll definately play some more Batman this weekend, looking forward to it!
(When I get back from vacation there will be a StarCraft 2 C.E. box waiting for me at the office, woohoo! )

Lies! Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation said something completely different!

(Actually, I am looking forward to playing SMG2 in the medium to far away future. After I finished SMG1 for example.)
