FFXIV: catch all

Every time I get an email detailing what's going on in FFXI my resolve to never play again breaks a little bit more.

Same. I'm hoarding vacation time.

Any thoughts on planning a Company from GWJ?

Just popping in to say Hey, FFXIV. I'm not spending another 200 days of playtime with you like I did your older sibling. Hell no. Life is too precious.

Keep telling yourself that, buddy.

I'm really not. I haven't been able to get into any MMO like I did FFXI, and I doubt I will be able to for XIV. I played WoW for a while because my lady friend at the time wanted to, but I never enjoyed it all that much.

This is sage truth. I'm nowhere near being able to run it well, and with the amount of time I spent in FFXI, FFXIV would probably be bad for me.

Hah I still play FFXI, infact I've been slowly working down my co-workers and convincing them that they should play again. XIV is a foregone conclusion and one that I am waiting for with baited breath.

According to Eurogamer, this game won't be coming to the 360 because of Xbox Live. I hadn't realized there was a planned 360 version of Champions Online that was chucked for the same reason.

That's a shame. I was actually pretty interested in this one.

For reals? Or is that a typo? Your high res score is higher than your low res?

Amazon says 29 Sept on PC.

The benchmarking tool keeps crashing whenever I try to open it. But, I did pre-order the special edition from Amazon.com.

My benchmarking tool did the same. I thought I was dumb so I did not post anything about it. (I am computer stupid)

22nd for Collector's Edition at Amazon

I've never pre-ordered an MMO for a headstart. Do they send you the box? Do you download it?

I'd imagine it's a download token, but it looks like Amazon will be shipping early.

After some more articles and whatnot the pre-order CE is releasing on Sept 22. The physical box not just its digital harbinger.

I had the same problem until I got the latest graphic drivers for my Radeon card. Might be worth a shot.

Could you post your setup?

The benchmark thread over at Blue Gartr (the FFXI equivalent of Elitist Jerks).

A mod in another thread commented on the topic:

I really want to blow up that stupid benchmark thread, there's so much misinformation and e-peen stroking it makes me want to cry.

First of all, benchmarks have to be taken with a grain of salt. There's a point where having a higher score is pointless, because you'll never notice it when you're actually playing. Typically they stress your system more than the game ever will. My point is, if you look at that thread, you might assume you need an overclocked i7 with a top of the line video card to run FF14. You won't.

You'll probably want a Core 2 Quad or better, and a video card around 9800/4870 or better to run the game comfortably. I wouldn't really justify spending hundreds more dollars for a i7 or 480/58xx just for FF14.

i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz
6GB Ram
EVGA GTX 480 SC

/sigh this thread is killing me had to go pre-order the collectors edition. Thank you all filthy enablers

I never played XI but this is definitely peaked my interest. I am also in process of pricing out bits to build a new computer so this might be the last push i need to get that going.

Beta started today. Anyone here get in?

No but i'm glad to hear it has started.

I might be in the beta.

I applied, since there was something in FFXIII about it, but i guess I didnt get in.

While i was hoping it was from another source i did recieve an email with the words beta in it today.

Ehem, Woot!

That is all =)

If you may or may not be in some beta for some game...

Can you post your specs and brief impression of performance?

my current rig is middling to low now.

e8400 @ 3.00
4gb memory
9600 gt 1gb

scored a 1200 @ high on the benchmark test

I understand the concern but I don't expect the performance to be much worse than FFXI.

If what ranalin posted is true, performance may be skewed towards the gpu. I have an 512mb 8800 gt with a much worse cpu and only 2 gb ram and I got a 1700+ on the "high" benchmark.

Plus the "low" benchmark didn't really seem that low rez or poorer visual quality to me and I got 2000+ on that.

edit: another note, I just defragmented my hd that had like 40-50% fragmentation on it. I'm thinking that may pump my benchmark numbers up more.
