Goodjer Podcasters Unite!

Pages

Aside from the GWJ Conference Call (which everyone should listen to, every week, it's in your contract by the way), there are a number of other Goodjer podcasters out there. I'd like to take roll and allow them all to have a place where folks can see what's available from fellow Goodjers and we can talk about all the good stuff that's available for your podcasting pleasure.

If you have a podcast or are part of a podcast, make a post about it. It would be nice to give the name, where people can get it, what it's about, its schedule, stuff like that. If you've listened to a Goodjer podcast and want to comment on it, feel free.

This thread is not about general podcast suggestions or "recommend me a podcast"; there are quite a number of those elsewhere on the forums. The idea here is to discover and discuss podcasts with fellow Goodjers on them, not talk about the latest A Life Well Wasted.

I'll keep a list in the OP so people have somewhere to find all of these in one place.

  • Partners in Lag with pneuman and Asz: Videogaming discussion and news - currently on hiatus
  • That's What She Said with SommerMatt: Discussion about the TV series The Office - currently periodically released
  • The Easy Button with Duoae and Nightmare (tboon): Videogaming discussion - comes out every so often
  • I Hope You Die Radio with casual_alcoholic: Comedy with discussion about videogaming, TV, movies, comics, etc. - released: every two weeks, on Sundays
  • Three Moves Ahead with Troy Goodfellow, rabbit, and Rob Zacny: Strategy videogames (primarily) - released weekly on Wednesday or Thursday
  • Jumping the Shark with ubrakto and William Abner: Videogaming discussion - released weekly on Mondays
  • Striving with Certis: "Spiritual seeking without the fluff" - released weekly on Sundays
  • HatchetJob with various GWJ people: Videogaming discussion - released periodically
  • Core Elements with weswilson: Interviews with game developers - released weekly on Thursdays
  • The Shaft - with weswilson: a podcast devoted to Minecraft - released weekly on Mondays
  • Principled Uncertainty - with demonbox: "focuses on talking about ethereal ideas through the filter of everyday media" - released periodically
  • PixelCast - with Pretendbeard: Videogaming discussion - released "fortnightly"
  • Library Police Podcast - with trichy: Book and general entertainment discussion - released weekly, early in the week (Sun.-Tues.)
  • Game Out Loud - with Bottle: General game discussion - released weekly

You should kick off the list with your own, it's quite awesome.

I keep meaning to post something like this in a thinly veiled attempt to promote our podcast

Asz and I produce Partners in Lag, an every-two-to-three-weeks podcast where we try to tackle some of the bigger gaming issues in-depth, while also covering the usual news stuff and talk about the games we're playing.

I've been doing my podcast for at least three years, I think. My love for THE OFFICE has waned greatly since I began, so things have been a bit "iffy" with my production schedule lately. Still, I like to think we have a good time with a discussion of the show and some audio highlights.

I've had lots of people comment that they enjoy listening to our podcast more than the actual show these days, but your milage may vary If you're a fan of THE OFFICE, but can accept a little criticism, give us a shot.

Duoae and I produce a podcast called The Easy Button. We talk about videogames in general, with some news and discussion of games we have been playing. We try and release every two weeks, but sometimes fail to achieve this goal. What I think makes our podcast worth listening to is my penchant for talking about games no one cares about but me and Duoae's insistence on talking about console games I have barely heard of, let alone played. Also, our self-deprecating humor.

Yeah, I wrote up a post but did not submit it because I was unable to figure out how to hit the "Submit" button (hey, it was late ). And thanks for the kind words.

Haha, every two weeks? I think that's a generous schedule :p

There's Hatchet Job i think by 1Dgaf, Souldaddy and someone else. Been going for a while though maybe one of them should write a little about it and how it's different/individual etc.

Wow, thanks! Not sure we're deserving of this sort of praise but it's always good to hear feedback.... positive only though, thank you!

Man, this thread dropped like a rock into the Laurentian Abyss...

Some other podcasts with Goodjers on them that I know about:

The Official Podcast of flashofsteel.com: Three Moves Ahead. Hosted by Troy Goodfellow, who has posted on these forums. Rabbit also makes an appearance on it quite often, as does Rob Zacny, who I have seen on GWJ before as well. On occasion, Tom Chick and Dr. Bruce Geryk (of Tom vs. Bruce fame) will show up as well. This is the best strategy gaming podcast on the Internet, period. If you like strategy games and are not listening to this every week, you are broken inside.

Jumping the Shark is the official podcast of GameShark.com. It's produced by ubrakto (Todd Brakke) has Bill Abner (as well as some other GameShark folks). This has become one of my favorite podcasts to listen to each week. They talk about general gaming topics.

Was just about to pipe in with this. So glad you like the show!

For those who haven't given it a shot, we've been running weekly since last February and I'd like to think we do alright. I drag it down, but Bill, Danielle, and Brandon are aces. I missed this past week's show (ep 26), which, of course, had to be the show on which we got Tom Chick to guest. I hate that I missed that, but it's a great ep.

Anyway, if anyone here tunes in and has comments or suggestions I'd love to hear 'em!

Hm, this reminds me that that monthly podcast I was doing needs an episode for this month.

We just started recording our new show, I Hope You Die Radio. It's just a comedy show where we talk about random games, movies, tv shows, and comics. We just recorded the first episode where we come up with the name. My only disappointment is that my friends are way funnier than me. It's short, upbeat, and pretty funny, so if that's your thing then give it a listen.

Here's the description of the first ep: Chris Davidson, Brian Pacella, Conor Stenerson, Jon Holmes, and Alan Frew kick off a new podcast. In this inaugural episode, the gang tries to figure out a name for the show. As you can already tell, we surprisingly succeed. Conor gets too drunk, Jon can't stop talking about Albanian butterflies, Brian confuses bicyclists with bikers, and Chris tries to hold the entire thing together -- all in 20 minutes. Look forward to the first episode, where we'll eventually talk about real things. Enjoy!

I also recommend all the people in this thread post a reminder when a new ep comes out so that this thread doesn't drown in obscurity.

Cool, I'll be sure to give it a listen. And 5 stars!

Edit: I updated the OP to include I Hope You Die Radio as well as some others that I was too lazy to do before.

Thanks man! To fill in the blank, we try to release every other Sunday.

Didn't know there were so many. I am a fan of The Easy Button, though. Now that I can't watch TV at work anymore, I'm loading up on podcasts.

I like Three Moves Ahead and Jumping the Shark, but I can't stand the poor audio quality.

Glad you are a fan. One day we will start podcasting again Duoae moved which has messed up our schedule a bit, once he gets settled we will be back.

After an almost two month hiatus, The Easy Button has a new episode. Due to pent-up words caused by the extended lay-off, I am even more rambling than usual. Duoae is his usual patient and awesome self. Check it out!

Haha! We both release an episode on Halloween, and they're both about Minecraft. This makes me happy. I'll make sure to give it a listen today.

New episode of I Hope You Die Radio! This one is entirely Minecraft focused. Subscribe on iTunes! Rate it 5 stars! Leave a review! Please?

Episode 1: Running Out of Picks
In this episode the gang digs deep into conversation about Minecraft! Conor reflects on his newfound sobriety, Jon refuses to heed warnings about using a certain phrase, and Chris talks about his Minecraft nightmares. So come download the new episode! Now with 78% less over talk!

Added Certis' new podcast, Striving to the OP.

So I've been nudged into mentioning HatchetJob. The strapline I'm using at the moment is 'The videogames show you'd want to sit next to at dinner'. Schedule: when it's done.

I honestly don't know how to describe the show; I think that at our best we're illuminating and, at the very least, we're amusing. And if I can boast for a moment, the nicest comment I've recieved is being called 'The Louis Theroux of gaming'.

I joined these guys for the most recent show and it was a lot of fun. I just wanted to jump in here and say that the interviews that 1dgaf lines up are absolutely phenomenal. They're thoughtful, intelligent, and, perhaps most importantly, I haven't seen anyone in the podcast world have the same kinds of conversations. I particularly enjoyed the episodes with David Sirlin and Irving Finkel.

I listened to the latest button of The Easy Button today and enjoyed it. Elemental, Civ 5, and most notably Minecraft, your discussion on the music especially hit home.

I second HatchetJob: extremely intelligent videogaming discussion. Sadly, they fell out of my rotation for some reason, an error that will be shortly corrected.

I added HatchetJob to the OP, please tell me if I left anyone off of the list of "talent".

Let me whore myself out for a moment.

I've tried to do a podcast with a few friends. The prospect has always been appealing because I purchase way too many games and I spend a lot of time in front of the screen. Any attempts at podcasting failed because frankly, my closest friends aren't as into games as I am to feel the need to talk about 'em once a week. If anyone is looking for a final seat I'd be willing to podcast starting December.

I'm forward about it because Oily has been enabling me to write more about games since meeting in person. It was a treat having drunken conversations with him and Pyroman about the state of games/games journalism at the GWJer day S&T in Cleveland. Without a doubt games are my passion. I spent too many years of my life pursuing them as a career to ignore the fact. Post NaNoWriMo I'm going to catch up on my backlog, and will have plenty of things to say.

I do a podcast, available on iTunes, with a few friends called The Principled Uncertainty Podcast. We try to be varied in our topics, with media being the glue that keeps things together. I will warn that it's a bit heady. I've not gotten feedback on it, really, so feel free to listen (if so inclined) and post feedback/suggestions.

Hey everybody, I Hope You Die Radio Episode 2: A Beautiful Albanian Butterfly is now available for download! Subscribe on iTunes!

http://ihud.libsyn.com/episode-2-a-b...

Description: In this episode, the gang tackles the super awesome League of Legends. Brian is still missing, so we let friend of the show, Bradley "Guitar Dude" Shields, take his seat for this round. Everyone decides they're too cheap to actually pay for their games, Jon admits he's that **** that everyone hates on the internet, and Chris tries his hardest to keep the energy high. Now with mildly intelligent discussion!

demonbox wrote:

Challenge: accepted!

An old friend and I just started a podcast called The Library Police, where we talk about books primarily with a bit of other pop culture (television, film, gaming) thrown in. I'd love some feedback from the community. We are on iTunes, and we've got four episodes so far.

Hey guys! There's a new episode of I Hope You Die Radio! Episode 3: "Flippin Gravity Like a V6" is now out and I'm pretty happy with it. It's a really funny episode, so if you're a fan of the show or are just into relatively short and funny podcasts, then I highly recommend you listen!

Episode 3: Flippin Gravity Like a V6

Description: In this episode, the gang discusses the awesome indie platformer VVVVVV! Brian returns to the show in this episode, and we're also joined by the absolutely ridiculous Kevin "KPalm" Palma. Alan tries to justify his refurbished laptop, Kevin tries to urinate on Alan's laptop, and Brian actually tries to talk about the game. It's an absolutely hilarious episode, so make sure to give it a listen! Please subscribe on iTunes! Leave a rating and a review!

Might be a good place to float this out there. For awhile now I have been toying with the thought of starting a legal/political themed podcast. Some years ago I did a solo law themed podcast that was pretty successful, then I went crazy and that fell apart. I did one series of episodes where I basically went page by page through the DMCA, which got a good reaction.

I would really like to revisit this, but with a co-host or a stable of co-hosts. The only requisite is that you stay informed and do some reading with regard to political and legal trends. Also, a thick skin, because I can be a dick when I get going. My brother has expressed interest, so long as he has no need to do the technical end. But how about anyone else around here?
