NCAA Football 11 (XBox 360) Online Dynasty Signing Day - DSGamer Edition

Pages

This thread is intended to draw traffic away from the NCAA 11 thread and create a place where we can officially discuss how to proceed with an NCAA 11 Online Dynasty as the game comes out. Tacked on the "DSGamer Edition" so it was clear this was the league I was starting and not any officially sanctioned GWJ league so there is hopefully no more arguing over how the league is run. This is the league I'm running. If I'm alone because of my choices then I accept that. But I hope everyone understands what I'm trying to do.

Initially I'm seeking interest here as to who wants to play and what teams everyone would like to take. I want to collect this information so that when the game comes out I can determine how to set the Dynasty up. Other open questions.

- Quarter length?
- Difficulty level?
- Injuries on/off?
- Should we schedule against each other if we can?
- Hard cutoff at 1 week for getting games in?

On that last issue my opinion is yes. Especially as I'd like to roll through a couple season and I think it should be easy for games to be played especially as most will be against the computer.

As mentioned in the NCAA 11 thread I'm going to wait a week after NCAA 11 drops to make sure that everyone who wants to play is really into playing. NCAA has been hit or miss in the GWJ community for years. I'd love to see a thriving online dynasty, but I want to make sure first that we have a good core group of people that are into it. Thanks.

Bubble teams

aimlessagent - Maryland (ACC)

I am interested in playing, and I would like to take the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

-Quarter Length: I vote 6 or 7 minutes
-Difficulty Level: No Preference
-Injuries: I vote ON, but am ok with Off
-Should we schedule against each other: Yes, doesn't have to be the whole non-conference portion of the schedule, but yes
-Hard cutoff for Sim Deadline: Yes

I would like the University of Central Florida Golden Knights.

-Quarter Length: I think we should test this out beforehand to see how fast things go this year, but 6 minutes probably works.
-Difficulty Level: 3/4 I think it is called Varsity?
-Injuries: Yes.
-Should we schedule against each other: Yes. See Kush's comment.
-Hard cutoff for Sim Deadline: Yes

I'd like to join in. Teams in order of preference: Texas, Sam Houston State, Florida State.
Which one would depend on what format we're going with. Was a decision rendered on whether any A-ranked teams would be allowed? Sam Houston isn't a top tier school, so they may not even be included this year. It seems random but they do get thrown in from time to time.

- Quarter length - I thought 7 minutes was a good balance in the Madden league, but it depends on how the game flows. I'll stick with 7 for now.

- Difficulty level - All-american (3 of 4. The levels are freshman, varsity, All-American, Heisman)

- Injuries on/off - On

- Should we schedule against each other if we can - Definitely. The more games vs. human opponents the better.

- Hard cutoff at 1 week for getting games in - These leagues can drag on, so I think a hard cutoff is fair. If someone can't make their game, should we also drop them for that week so their opponent can play the CPU? I'm undecided if that's fair to both parties or not.

As far as team choice goes we threw out a few scenarios. Piling into a couple conferences, A-ranked teams, mid-level teams. I think what we settled on is just pick who you want, but unless it's absolutely necessary try taking a sub-A level team. A team commensurate with your skill level. So if you're awesome at EA football games, please take a lower tier team. And even at that the plan is to try and run this multiple seasons. So ideally if this goes really well we could end up with a scenario where people take their mid-level teams and build them up into top-25 teams anyway.

I think I'm in...Notre Dame. I'll confirm after I order. I prefer to play one another as opposed to CPU. I stink at EA games.

This is part of why I want to give it a week before firing up the dynasty officially (thus the name of this thread referring to pre-season). I want to see what we can and can't do. See how much play we have with the schedule. I would imagine the right balance will be the following.

#1 - Figure out how many teams are allowed.

#2 - Figure out who is using which teams.

#3 - Let people pick teams or switch around to share conferences if they choose.

#4 - Finalize the teams and then change most of the non-conference games to PvP games.

Most of us will still want to play our conference opponents, even if they're the computer. So hopefully through that we'll get like 4 games against people, 7 or 8 against the computer, maybe with a conference championship. And then bowl games. But I want to see how it shakes out. I want to keep conference integrity, though, so most schedule manipulation will be the non-conference games.

I'm in.

Rock Chalk Jayhawks for me.

As for quarter length and difficulty level, the level that seems right seems to vary by whatever game. I usually like it on the higher levels, but I don't have enough experience with NCAA to make a decision on that. but injuries on is good for me.

My understanding is that the commish is the one responsible for adjusting schedules, and the only option is in the non-conference games. I'd like to see that used to boost human vs. human games. We can either set up games and send them to DS, or have DS try to make out a schedule that helps accomplish this. I'm not sure which would be easier on him, to be honest.

I'm not sure how scheduling games might impact recruiting and potential bowl games. Do I get a bump if I schedule Notre Dame of UCF or Rutgers? Do I get a hit by getting whomped by Oregon, but a bump with a nice win over Fresno. Maybe it is better to let DS handle it via RNG?

I like a hard deadline in principle. But I also like the commish to take each week in context. Because multiple seasons can be part of the fun, since recruiting is a big part of the game, I can see having a more hard deadline.

Well, if I play ND, I have no conference games!

Oh, and can USC play in bowl games?

- Quarter length? 7 or 8 minutes
- Difficulty level? All-American
- Injuries on/off? on
- Should we schedule against each other if we can? Yes
- Hard cutoff at 1 week for getting games in? Yes

I am in:

7 min qtrs
All-American
Injuries on
Schedule against each other yes
Hard cutoff: yes.

Team undetermined: possibly Navy, Ole Miss, UVA, but I'd really like to restore the U to it's former glory.

Count me in as well. I'd like to fire Rich Rod and bring the Wolverines back to relevance.

- Quarter length? I'm fine with whatever here. I'd like them to be 5 minutes at the shortest. If they are longer it's cool, I just don't like the super short quarters like in the demo and how some of my friends preferred to play.

- Difficulty level? Again, I'm rather indifferent here. Does the difficulty only apply to the on field play or does it effect recruiting as well? I'm fine with making the on field stuff All-American. I was just thinking that recruiting will be pretty tough with all of us going after the blue chippers, I don't want to get a ton of walk-ons because I couldn't best the tougher AI at whatever the recruiting mini game turns out to be.

- Injuries on/off? On.

- Should we schedule against each other if we can? Definately

- Hard cutoff at 1 week for getting games in? Sounds fair. Even in my busiest weeks I can usually find an hour to be online sometime...Who am I kidding? I'm never busy.

Is anyone planning on using the online (not XBL) tools alleged to be included? Being able to recruit without being on my XBOX seems very cool. I'm not sure that I'll be doing the reporting on my team or assembling any highlight packages but it's nice to know that I can if I want to.

I'm in. Are we picking one conference, or are we going to be spread out?

I don't really have a team preference, although I wouldn't mind getting Boise State, just because of their fancy blue field.

I don't think there is a concrete plan one way or another. I think once we have the game in our hands for a week or two, more of us will have a better idea of what will serve our needs the best.

Right now, i like the idea of us all taking favorite teams through the different conferences, and then scheduling out of conference games against each other. This will provide a better opportunity for guys to make bowl games. At the same time, if we piled into one or two conferences, we would get more head-to-head games.

I'm in too

7 min qtrs
All-American
Injuries on
Schedule against each other yes
Hard cutoff: yes.

Team: Northwestern

Well then, I wish you nothing but ill.

I will be getting my copy on the way to my root canal.

I'll be in

7 min qtrs
All-American or whatever is hardest
Injuries on
Schedule against each other yes
Hard cutoff: yes.

Will it be more then one game a week? With a Majority of our games against the computer I don't know why we couldn't get in a few games a week.

I'll take Texas A&M

Wow, a double double post. That's a new one on me. Oh, and good luck with that root canal thing. I want to schedule my games with you while you're under the influence of the drugs that go with it...

Stupid iPad.

Probably picking up my copy tomorrow. The local independent video game store had a shipment screw up.

Evidently Amazon has delivered my copy. Looking forward to getting crushed by you folks again...

I currently hold my copy in my hand. Shag went to lunch with me to pick it up. Apparently, I received a code for something for pre-ordering, and the code is written on my receipt.

One would think, in this day and age, that I would get something with the code pre-printed on it. What's stopping GameStop from handing out my code to someone else by accident (or purposely), or worse, maybe the guy who wrote the code on my receipt has bad handwriting.

For the record, the guy who wrote the code has pretty piss-poor penmanship, but I think I can read it. The funny thing is, I have no CLUE what the code is for, only that I get something, and right now, I don't want anyone to get it. Could be a special school or stadium. Could be a 10-lb bag of sh*t that sits in the endzone, but has a Michigan Wolverines logo on it.

Sorry, had to pick Michigan, my former brother-in-law is a Michigan fan. God Bless Rich Rodriquez for continuing to f*ck up that program

EB Games/GameStop - Reserve NCAA Football 11 and receive a one-time use code to download the GameStop Boost Pack: 5-Star Recruit Bundle. Available online and in-store while supplies lasts.

Found this on the forums:
"I think it has to do with the Road to Glory mode or whatever they're calling it these days. But like it will automatically make you a 5-star recruit no matter what position. I could be wrong though."

So yes, I would say it's a 10lb bag of sh*t. Thanks a pant load chet.

I will be the one f*cking up that program this year.

I just played a game, and it's damn good.

I can't wait for the online dynasty. Can I change my team to Washington? I want to play with Jake Locker.

Well then, I wish you nothing but ill.

Likewise.

Of course, the hand-writing wasn't entirely legible, the code was invalid, and I had to call the place back, and it turns out what looked like a "6" was a "G".
