Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Catch-All

I think what annoys me more in MW2 now having played more BFBC2 and RDR is the obvious cheating that I've seen at times (I definitely saw one guy using what had to be an aimbot on the 360; no way can you instantly snap your view - and I do mean instantly - by around 120 degrees and snap off a headshot at medium distance, all without breaking stride) and the lack of more casual players like myself, leaving the games mostly populated by people who know where to stand and what angle to blind-fire grenades to hit people at spawn points and the like.

It's still fun, but there's a bit of rust starting to appear on the edges. ;)

I really haven't run into too much problems on the PC. I typically can get in a number of good rounds and more times than not get a 1:1 kill/death ratio or better.

Also, if anyone is still playing, but doesn't have any of the DLC and wants to join me (usually with another friend) add me on Steam. It does look like most people here that are still playing have the DLC, though.

I always find claims of cheating and hacks, especially on the PC, to be greatly exaggerated. Every online match I have ever played in PC shooters seems to have cries of cheating by people who are getting owned. Most of the time is is skill. Even on the 360, I have seen players (friends of mine) who are like idiot savants at snap zoom headshots with the 360 controller in a lot of games. It makes me dizzy just watching them move and shot.

I guess my point is that cheating does exist, on both platforms, but it is pretty rare. A lot of "cheaters" are just damn amazing players. I am a pretty good COD player, but still a middle of the board player, and I have been accused of cheating a lot, especially in COD2 on the PC. You get a couple of quick hip fire kills or a perfect sniping run and all of a sudden people are screaming "hacks" and asking for the ban hammer. A wave of server lag sends the accusations flying as well. It is ridiculous at times.

I've seen some of those amazing kinds of players first-hand, so yeah, I know there's some amazing skill out there. I'm very cautious with my claims of cheating, and even then, all I do about it if I genuinely suspect it's happening is drop out and find another lobby/game. No need to get bent out of shape over something that's impacting your fun in a game if you can simply find another online match to join instead!

And besides, what's the point of arguing and getting bent out of shape over someone you will never meet in real life? I witnessed some reall heated claims of cheating and profanity flinging last night before I once again hit the mute all button in game.

I agree, the best thing to do is just find another place to play, especially when you don't have a dedicated server to call 'home'. I do have a buddy that gets accused of cheating on occassion. It doesn't help he reset his account after getting level 70'ed in hacked servers one too many times for his liking. His first 20 levels he was getting all kinds of cheating claims against him.

Unfortunately I've ran into 2 folks in the last few days who openly admitted to cheating. One was using a modded controller because "he was tired of getting owned by cheaters". He's a friend a played the game with when it came out. Ironically over the course of several matches he proceeded to accuse players on the other team of using aim-bots and wall hacks.

The other was a kid who had some sort of mod that converted his deaths into a boost for his KDR. In the two matches I played with him before punching out he had over 100 deaths. When I asked him why he did it, he said he was bored.

So did anyone here get accidentally banned by Valve? Can I get the gift copy of L4D2? Steam name is bordone.

If there are allot of people that were banned + owned LFD2 I wouldn't mind a copy either, however I don't think the numbers were actually very high.

They banned them from L4D2 as well? Thats kinda funny.

Also agree about the hacking in games. Granted its definitely there, but its usually not everywhere like some would have you think.

No, the people who were erroneously banned got reinstated and got a copy of L4D2 to make up for it. If they already owned L4D2, they were given a gift copy that they could give to someone else.

If anybody does have an extra gift copy of L4D2 that they have no use for, I am not above begging for it also

No panhandling!

I just figured it never hurt to ask.

Hadn't played in a month...third game last night dropped an AC-130. Overall went about 75-15. Just like riding a bike. A bike with a silencer on it.

Goodjers still play MW2 on PC? Send me an invite sometime.

I'd love to buy this through steam if they ever have it on sale. Not enough people still play to make a full price double dip worth it though.

Agreed.

I still play it, and have only had a couple moments of being hacked (setting up windows 7 restore points helps w/ that) and I actually just had an awesome night playing where I got to use a new handgun that just dominated. Since it's been on sale twice, but for no more than $10 off, I doubt either of you will be satisfied for a long time. And, in my opinion, had I paid the $50 I did for this and only played single player, I would have felt cheated. I actually would have felt cheated regardless of what I paid if I only played single player. Yeah its big action blockbuster, blah blah blah, but it didn't do much for me as they just killed off your character too often.

PC players can friend me up on Steam if you like, even if I typically just play with a buddy.

FTFY. I don't think you can say there's a lack of random public players for it as it's constantly near the top of steam's most played list.

True. If i saw it 10$ off i'd grab it. I must've missed the sales or maybe it coincided with the free weekends which i did play on and ignored the rest.

I still play. Been playing the new map pack maps which are pretty good.

I refuse to buy the map packs at $15 a pop, but recently I've been joining up with Dr. Awkward and a few of his friends for private matches. We don't get any exp, but we don't have to put up with cheaters.

Usually play in the late evening.

I figure since Black Ops is roughly 10 weeks away some GWJ'ers on the 360 might be interested in getting back into some MW2 in anticipation of its release

I freely admit that I played MW2 long past the point of enjoyment in the past as I got sucked into the whole prestieging/level grind of the game but after a long hiatus I'm start to discover that underneath all that I still enjoy the game and have fun playing it

Because of MW2's reputation I feel obliged to point out that I'm not a 'quickscope kid' and try not to take the game too seriously (Though cursing softly under my breath seems to be an ever-present for me in online FPS's :))

PGT, sorry for bailing last night but I wanted to catch up with Heroforsale (you played with him before). I didn't play for long- one of my bairns puked in her bed.

I carefully nurtured a K:D of 1.63 until I got sick (it's a weak pun- do you see) of the game. I start playing again after a break and I cannot shoot anything. I get the occasional good game and even an MVP sometimes but my K:D now must be well below 1.0. I think I've lost patience and on hardcore that I commonly play seems to punish the run and gun. OR has everyone else kept getting better?

Don't worry about it - matchmaking wasn't kind to us that day

The way I got back into MW2 was to just play for fun - pick a set up I liked, not care about my K/D, not care about my win/loss, just try to enjoy myself

I spent a lot of yesterday just levelling up my shotguns and machine pistols, using my primary's as seldom as possible and not only was it a lot of fun but I finished as MVP a lot more than I thought I would

Hey all so I am new to GWJ. Though I would toss out a hi and see how often you all try to team up for some matches. Is there a GWJ clan/group or do you all just join up and play? Anyway look me up. I play MW2 a lot. I still enjoy it as opposed to the many other FPS's out there.

I play on Hardcore matches mostly. Cheaters are far far less likely. I run into 1 every maybe 20 matches though I do get bad luck streaks with running into them at times.

Normal game play seems to have them regularly though so I try to avoid it as much as I can. I like Hardcore a lot more anyway. Far more realistic.

Hey, I'm not playing MW2 anymore, but I'm sure there are other GWJers that are.

If you're on Xbox...

There is a shared friends list that you can checkout to see if others are playing... add altfirelive as a friend... then view his friends to hookup with other GWJers.

If you're on PC/PS3, I have no idea.

Preytor to answer your question about why your links don't work. New members / coffee grinders have that feature disabled to cut down on spam and all that from hit and run posters.

Also, I tend to party up with a buddy and we usually just run team deathmatch/ domination/ groundwar and often end up in the top 3 spots and don't find too many hacked servers/cheaters, although some nights thats all I see it seems. I'm actually just now finally at level 68 after having been severly hacked at 50-something and not having a backup. Now I run backups in case I end up in a bad server. We do wander over to hardcore stuff every once and while, but to be honest, I prefer video games being less real.

Heh don't see much of this thread. I play MW2 with Preytor whenever we are online at the same time. Steam is so nice to work with in this game. Steam = PC.

So i broke down awhile back and got this through Steam. Came across my first blatant cheater last night. or maybe 2 in a row. A guy was wall hacking and aim botting. Hit 25/0 and nuked us. I watched and saw the name leave the queue so stayed in for the next match, but there was either another one or the same one who changed his name and tag info almost instantly. This one was on my team so i went around following him shooting my gun off to make sure there was a dot on the radar. Other team finally got him at 24 kills. Luckily i only needed 1 more TDM win for my barrak achievments to leave that cesspool.

Preytor and I play Hardcore mode which has far less cheaters. It's also harder, for the first few weeks I wasn't a team killer as much as a team butcher. Now however I can't really go back, the big thing is that in Hardcore 1 shot is often enough to kill you but on regular I have to empty clips sometimes to get a kill.
