Mount&Blade Warband Catch-all

Okay, this hit my impulse buy level on the Steam sale, $15 and I couldn't resist. And I have the day off tomorrow, and some data cap to burn, so I may be playing soon.

Can't wait.

Oh, God. There goes another one of us. Lost into the M&B void.

Seriously, I think its a great buy. The amount of 'no hit to the data cap' play time you'll get out of it will be worth way more than $15.

Oh I know. I was totally obsessed with the original for about 6 months. M&B is actually a money saving investment, once I get into it I'm not interested in anything again for a while.

With Warband it was always a case of 'when' I bought it, not 'if.'

When you're first starting mounted, I'd suggest you use something stabby and long. Then you mostly only have to worry about timing, not so much direction. Of all the stabby and long things, lances have an additional benefit of being able to couch them. That is a really important benefit while you're first starting out. Smacking infantry with your couched lance is often a one-shot-thrill. Once you're more comfortable on your mount, then, and only then, should you try experimenting with other types of positions.

Next-time on "Lovetalk with MoonDragon:" How to prevent saddle-sores!

Mind... meet gutter. Gutter... meet mind.

"My mind's on my gutter and my gutter's on my mind."

By the way, 1866 multiplayer beta is out.

so there's a single player port for it? Checking now!

EDIT: can't find one.

And there won't be according to the modders, at least until the get .9 released for M&B, whenever that will be.

I just found this thread so I haven't read through it, but is the only way to turn on vsync in this game to do it at the video driver control panel level? I was playing it yesterday and couldn't find it in the options at all, but maybe I'm blind. The screen tearing was driving me nuts. FYI I have an nVidia 260GTX.

EDIT: never mind, I figured that out-- it's in the "configure" menu before you start the game proper. HOWEVER, this led to another discovery: when I try to turn on antialiasing in the options, and hit the OK button, then go back, it always resets itself to zero. Any ideas?

Maybe it's the old can't have anti-aliasing and [insert other thing here] at the same time. Such as HDR.

The MP is pretty awesome though!

Warband's 50% off on steam right now.

How's the multiplayer community doing? I **loved** the original and picked this up during the huge Steam sale, and had planned on putting in some serious time with this soon.

Anyone feel like sharing war stories?

My current character in single-player had a rough start to his career. He and his tiny band of Khergit recruits got jumped by Steppe Bandits and couldn't quite fight them off. After getting dragged around as a prisoner for a while, he escaped... and promptly got jumped by another group of bandits.

Just after he escaped again, though, the bandits got caught by a lord's army. After joining the battle, borrowing a horse, and putting arrows into a few of his persecutors, my character even got his horse and boots back in his share of the loot. Revenge is sweet.

Actually, I just wrapped up a rebellion against Swadia and King Hapless using only four lords on my side. Good thing every other kingdom except the Sarranids were at war with Swadia in order to occupy their attention. I'll get around to making the old kingdom whole just as soon as I raise another army.

Edit: So you can build your own businesses in towns? Wine making, here I come!

Double edit: And two breweries. And a cloth factory. And a leather tanner. Heck, if war didn't just break out with the Kingdom of Rhodoks and if my character wasn't about to get married to Lady Redhead Hottie, I'd go to every town and buy up a business. Screw being king; I want to be Calradia's Warren Buffett.

I knew you could build things in villages, but businesses in towns? How?

Go to the Guild Master and tell him you want to purchase land for an enterprise. Best suggestion I can give you so far is to go to the goods merchant first, see what the town has the most of, and build a business that utilizes it to keep your resource costs down and thus extend your profit margin. In between that and what you earn off of owning settlements, you can finance your army and make plenty to pocket.

Never knew, thanks for the tip!

I think that was in the last big patch.

I've been so out of it the last few months that I think I've missed a couple big patches. Well, my little business empire is expanding; now if only people would stop besieging the towns* I have property in at the end of the month.

* = You can build businesses in foreign towns; haven't tried it in towns whose kingdom my kingdom is at war with. If that town is besieged by anybody, all potential revenue is frozen until the siege is resolved one way or the other.

Just confirming, you can't build in towns if you are at war with their nation.

Game just updated, can't find any details on the update just yet, but do I spot... achievements?!

Now all Steam needs is a unified gamerscore.

Many of them Monty Python-themed, no less.

There's an achievement for playing mods?

Yes there is.

I've been putting off getting this for the longest time because I totally sucked at the first Mount & Blade. But if Warband allows me to fart in the general direction of my enemies and get an achievement for it...Instant buy.

It's now only $10.20 on Steam. GET IT!
