FFXIV: catch all

Official JP site update, translations here:

FFXIV has a YouTube channel now. I don't understand everything they say but the in-game footage looks amazing.

I was leary at first but after watching some of the trailers and learning a little more about the gameplay and such now im quite intrigued by this title.

I want it. Now...

Excellent! It looks like XIV is maintaining the general feel of XI. Particularly, I really like the camera position; I feel more involved in the world than with a detached over-head view.

From what I could tell, the people speaking were mostly saying things like "welcome to Eorzea!", "look how beautiful the world is!", "these people cooking!", etc. And wow, the world sure does look beautiful.

Don't forget...."OHHHHH CHOCOBO!!!"

ffxivcore is translating tons of articles on the current alpha test. It's wonderful and terrible at the same time.

I've seen so many leaks around this past week! Most of what I've seen, has me VERY excited. It looks like they are making a more accessible version of FFXI. The graphics look amazing, all the details that started to pop up on the classes are very interesting, the crafting seems to be very similar to what they have in EQ2 (which is a plus imo) and the world and cities seem so full of detail and alive! Oh and it seems you start as a pirate! I'm totally rolling a Miquo'te Musketeer!

I think this is the only MMO I'm excited about this year. I hope I can get in some of the beta phases.

Edit for this:

Can somebody translate the info further? I've been to ffxivcore and I can't make heads or tails of anything. I'm particularly interested in the "class" system and combat.

This guy has a lot of videos from the alpha.

Some of the music seems pretty driving and hard. Seems like going on quests gives you an excited background music. Maybe Nobuo is going for a more rock-like vibe over XI's atmospheric feel? I'm looking forward to hearing more tracks.

Gameplay-wise, it doesn't look like there are any drastic changes from XI.

Edited for optimism

New wave of beta invites going out? I might have gotten one.

I think so, PS3 too.

The FFXIV YouTube channel was updated with a character creation video.

Hat-trick bumpage.

There's a link to download the benchmark here. This game will crush all but the highest end systems.

Yeahhhh. My Quadcore, 4GB RAM, GT8800 system scored a 3200 which is:

[3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.

I might stick to the PS3 version for my wallet's sake. All of the E3 demos I've seen were the PS3 build, I think, and it looked amazing.

Was that on high res or low res? There's been a lot of reports of people scoring in the 3ks for low res(1280x1024) but well under 2k for high res(1928x1650?).

Personally, I clocked in at 1800 for low res, 1300 for high res.

This will run well on my PC, was able to score over 5k on low settings. Didn't run it on high because my monitor doesn't support 1080p anyways.

Came in at 1200 on high with whats probably a mid to low end rig now.

I love benchmarks before big games come out. More developers need to do this!

Scored a 3858 on high res. Core i5, Radeon HD 5800.

Damn, Certis. Sounds like it's time for a lot of folks to just stop whining and build a new PC

Low vs High doesn't make much difference on my machine. I got a 2026 on low res and a 1760 on high res.

e2160, 2gb RAM, 512mb 8800gt, WinXP

Oh and for what its worth, I giggled both times during: [chipmunk] Land Ho! [/chipmunk]

I had similar results Fang. I got 2030 on high res and 1876 on low res.

dual core 5200, 4gb RAM, 1gb GTS250, WinXP

For reals? Or is that a typo? Your high res score is higher than your low res?

Just popping in to say Hey, FFXIV. I'm not spending another 200 days of playtime with you like I did your older sibling. Hell no. Life is too precious.

Keep telling yourself that, buddy.

I'm really not. I haven't been able to get into any MMO like I did FFXI, and I doubt I will be able to for XIV. I played WoW for a while because my lady friend at the time wanted to, but I never enjoyed it all that much.

This is sage truth. I'm nowhere near being able to run it well, and with the amount of time I spent in FFXI, FFXIV would probably be bad for me.

Hey gang thought you guys might like this Alpha vs. Beta video! http://www.gametrailers.com/video/alpha-final-fantasy/701146

Alpha graphics are eerily reminiscent of FFXI. It's pretty impressive looking overall, though.
