Goodjers of Landroval (LOTRO)

I had to go for a quest! I didn't even drink!

Ugh, you guys picked the RP server? Great... Can't wait to come back when it goes free now...

Whoa, hey - It wasn't the 'unofficial RP server' back when we chose it.

I'm not sure why you'd dislike being on a server with a lot of RPers? Maybe the theory is that they are worse players? In any case, there is no need to worry, if you don't like to RP, don't. It's easy to stay clear of it.

On the other hand, they are often hilarious. I know we've done some merciless mocking on our vent channel.

No, its not about their quality, but more about Lobster's story, and similar... difficulties.

RPers are annoying sometimes, and can be slow to take the hint.

Meh, just use /ignore. Idiots are everywhere, not just RP servers. If you don't engage them, they'll want nothing to do with you.

Anyway, Landroval is a fine server with some good people on it. Good enough for me.

I actually think it's awesome. Since it's not an official designation no one will ever give you sh*t if you don't want to participate. However, you still get to enjoy seeing random, crazy sh*t happening nearly every time you walk through town. Also, and maybe this is actually a LoTRO wide thing, but the frequency with which you will encounter players who are generally nice and helpful and literate is orders of magnitude larger on Landroval than in any other multiplayer game I've ever played.

I agree with zeroKFE, it is awesome, and not because it's the first time anyone's ever expressed an interest in talking to me more than absolutely necessary!

I love the atmosphere of Landroval. Everyone's name looks like a NAME. With one capitalized letter (at the beginning), and then some consonants and vowels and no numbers. I'd MUCH rather see lame fake Elizabethian English than the usual screeching about homosexuality and lack of skill. Even if you don't participate it's interesting to see people actually doing stuff in-character as you walk by. Makes players feel more like NPCs, and adds to the ambiance.

If you don't want to be involved you can always just ignore them. I'm sure they're used to it.

By the way, are there any "Rohan"-based factions? I feel like I'm supposed to be doing Rohan things, other than "have red hair."

Well, the guy who runs the horse ranch is from Rohan. I'm guessing that other than that, you won't see much from Rohan until it's actually implemented in a future expansion.

Picked up a cheap copy of Moria that LM posted about. Better to just download the client or install from the discs? No idea how far out of date Moria is...

I installed from the discs and downloaded the rest. Figured it couldn't possibly take any longer than downloading the whole thing. It was still a huge download.

Actually the original GWJ kinship Emyn Ien picked Landroval because it was going to be the unofficial RP server, on the theory that there would be less A#shats, which for the most part has been proven true. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure the founder of Eldain picked the server for the same reason.

With that bit of history out of the way, the RP'ers are pretty easy to ignore, especially after you out level Bree where they largely confine themselves. Plus, every once in awhile the RP community produces something kinda of cool like this PvMP RP event. I have enjoyed noming on inexperienced Dorfs with my warg.

Wait, where are you guys getting cheap copies of Moria?

If you do this be sure and use the DAT defrag tool as the game supposedly runs better if installed from the current client DL versus a disc and patch installation.

I can attest to that: running the defrag on my install dramatically decreased load times.

Actually if you have prime, it is, indeed, cheaper on Amazon. Does it come with a month of game time?

As we seem to have a lot of interest in the game right now, I would like to extend an invitation to participate in an Eldain run event this Friday in the games PvMP zone. You can read about it here.

We would love to have some of the non Eldain Landroval Goodgers along for the ride.

We will be happy to share our vent info for the event, just contact any Eldain member in game Friday night and we will share the server/pw info.

For some reason I thought this was going F2P in July. Now I'm hearing Fall/September?

What's the cheapest way to get online time? Amazon.com has 60-day cards for $14. The launcher says something about $9.99/month. If I pay a subscription now, is that money just kind of lost or do I get any additional perks once it goes free?

I think if you pay for multi-month then it is indeed 10 bucks a month. If you keep a subscription current until they go F2P you will accrue Turbine Space Bucks starting now, that you can use when F2P launches, and you will become a premium member should you chose to stop subscribing after F2P launches.

You had me at space bucks. What's your source on that, though? I researched it myself and I found something that sounded a little like, "you'll get 500 points per month you've subscribed" but actually said, "you'll get 500 points per month if you continue to subscribe after it goes F2P."

You get 500 points per month if you're

  1. Subscribed before June 30th
  2. Still subscribed when they go F2P

To agree with nihilo and Badferret, being on the unofficial RP server does seem to help keep us from being neck deep in asses. Even if you do feel like they won't leave you alone, I find it really easy to not pay attention to someone talking to me.

And it can be priceless fun to eavesdrop on their conversations. Some of these people are comedy gold.

Also, the unofficial GWJ Kin extends invites to any who wish to join. Simply let us know here or in game, and we will get you in.

It should, the info on the box says 30-days of free play. That said I got the cheap version from one of the other sellers on Amazon with Amazon handling the shipping (gotta love prime!). Hopefully the product key is still good...

Tempting...do we know how much 500 points will really be worth? I've seen Patience post DDO store pricing for comparison, but it would be nice if we knew how many TurbineRoubles it was for each zone, since that's the obvious purchase most f2p'ers will need to make.

I'm not entirely sure. But I know it is in beta right now, so we should be finding out soon.

I'm not sure how much I can say about Turbine Points what with the NDA and them tweaking prices. I will say that 500 is not insignificant right now.

Occasionally, the RP events can lead to funny situations. While leveling in the shire, a quest required me to go light fireworks on a stage in the shire. Turns out an RP event was happening on that very stage when I arrived. A speaker was on the stage, playing an instrument and giving a primer on "How to RP" to a reasonably sized audience (maybe 8-10 folks).

So, I ran up, placed my fireworks directly under the speaker and watched. Comedy gold. Lead to much laughter in game and on the Landroval forums later.

As a tone deaf minstrel, I also consider it my solemn duty to add an appropriate amount of cowbell to any situation where music is being performed.
