Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

This website allows you to create mixes of 8 songs or more and post them for the community to listen to. I flirted with posting this in its own thread, but decided this would be more appropriate, as it could be a good way to discover new music.

Here's one I threw together, today.

June Mix

It appears that you can only skip a track twice per mix, which is a bummer, but if you make a good enough mix, I won't have to skip at all.

The songs won't play in the same order each time you listen, for some inane reason, the order's only right the first time.

I'm pretty sure nobody has posted the new Arcade Fire songs yet:

The Suburbs is my favorite of the two. Great jangly piano going on there.

By the way, the Sasquatch Music Festival was awesome Memorial Day weekend at The Gorge in Washington. Anybody else go? My Morning Jacket and Broken Social Scene were my two favorite things with Band of Horses coming in third. It was a fantastic music festival.

Hmm. I'm not sure what I think of those new Arcade Fire tracks. I miss the dark, dense sound of Neon Bible.

I'm pretty sure I don't like Month of May. I do like The Suburbs, though, because it reminds me of Funeral.

My song of the day so far: Modest Mouse - Spitting Venom. I was giving this album a listen through this morning and forgot how good this song is.

Help me choose $35 Canadian worth of music on the Arts and Crafts label... forum thread here. Arts and Crafts here.

I have to reiterate my new found love for Pomplamoose once again. They are just so much fun!!

They truly are awesome. And the videos, oh the videos... pure bliss.

Been listening to this and the other songs of the OST for a week now.

For some reason it makes chainmailling easier.

I'm sure it's nothing new to most of you, but I've just discovered Muse, and I really like them.

Can't see which song you posted (GEMA -_-), but definitely check out their older stuff (pre 2005).

Knights of Cydonia; I also like the song that's on the new Twilight soundtrack. I'll probably get a couple of discs when I do my next Amazon order.

Why were you anywhere near the Twilight soundtrack? (Swipes Tanglebones' Man Card)

I don't mind saying, its pretty good. I'm gonna go ahead and reinstate Tanglebones' Man Card. In fact, it takes brass ones to admit, in public, that you like something associated with Twilight.

Cheers.

That's the fastest revoke and return of my man card I've ever experienced! And the song is getting lots of radio play; can't really avoid it on my drive.

Cinematic Orchestra - Man With A Movie Camera.

'nuff said.

Actually, that's not enough said, because I find this group amazing and am so happy that I found a brand-new, unopened copy of the original DVD of Cinematic Orchestra's Man With A Movie Camera. I'm so excited to watch it, but I have to contain myself until we get our new TV. The DVD is pretty rare and expensive as hell (I sure as hell didn't pay that much), so I'd recommend watching the Youtube playlist linked above.

So, I just watched Shutter Island last night... good movie. The best thing about that movie, though, is the song that plays during the credits which is a mix of Dinah Washington's Bitter Earth and Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard in quite awhile. If you haven't heard it give it a listen. I will say, it must be heard with a good sound system or a good pair of headphones to be fully appreciated.

Megafaun is out of Durham, NC and they're currently touring down the midwest (Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina). Portland in August and then Europe this fall. I just saw them a couple weeks ago and they play beautifully together.

Check out some of their other songs at http://www.megafaun.com/listen.html.

Bluejuice. Awesomeness from Australia.

That IS beautiful. Thanks. It reminds me somewhat of the soundtrack to The Fountain.

As an absolute sucker for female voices, I have to say... WOW! O.O

The Roots new album! You can listen to it on their myspace page. One song even features a mixing of Joanna Newsom's Book of Right On (It's called Right On).

I've only listened to a couple songs so far, but it's shaping up to be a pretty rad album.

Edit: I should also mention Dear God 2.0 features Jim James (Monsters of Folk) which is just f'n awesome.

I'm sorry but Beck's -'Cellphone's Dead' (2006) is the best music he's put out since Odelay (1996).

I am not at all envious of their glorious beards... =( *raises a fist to the sky* Why, oh cruel genetics?!

Great sound though.

I've been listening to Hold On Now, Youngster... quite a bit at someone's recommendation for my $30 credit on the Arts and Crafts store. Fun stuff!

I wuv them. I believe we were discussing them earlier in the thread and engaging in some oneupmanship regarding who'd been to the most shows in the most intimate clubs. Romance is Boring - excellent.
