Portal 2 Catch-All

Well, Gearbox won't be doing any work for Valve anymore.

I love the idea of side stories to the main theme.

Barney's still running around in the HL universe, right?

He'd be a great choice - Barney is the Wedge of the HL resistance.

The G-Man also still has Adrian Shephard stored away somewhere, so he's always an option for side stories.

The surprise is Gordon Freeman was dead all along.

If it's done by Valve? Hell yes!

I was actually hoping Portal 2 would do this somehow.

Valve could make a damn side-story involving how the Gnome came to make an appearance in HL2 and I would buy it.

Seriously, Adrian Shepard coming back would be pretty sweet. I could see the G-man loaning him out to the resistance as well.

Duke? (with mature language)

That brightened shot sure does look a heck of a lot like him, doesn't it?

The surprise is that...

Spoiler:

Half-Life 2 Episode 3 and Duke Nukem Forever were the same game and its cancellation was already announced. Surprise!

Haha! Made me laugh.

Latrine, it'd be cool if 3D Realms sold off Duke to Valve as a franchise to make some money after their crash and burn. I mean, Scott Miller did say that they're not planning on dropping development of Duke all together.

Duke is probably the best wildcard for guessing games like this as it has such a history. It's kind of like the video game announcement equivalent of shark jumping

If Valve is actually developing Duke Nukem Forever, we can at least rest assured that we won't see it for another decade.

I thought that the idea of Black Mesa Source ever actually being finished was the height of silliness, but with the Duke Nukem Forever idea this thread delivers once again

That forum thread that was linked to doesn't convince me, mainly because that image hasn't popped up anywhere else that I've seen on the web, least of all at valvesoftware.com.

That would be pretty cool.

Could be interesting. Source is more than 7 years old since the release of HL2, and designed for windows and when DX9 was new.

I don't think it would be a brand new engine from the start, but rather an overhaul, similar to how you can go from unreal engine 1 to 2 to 3. Just as they drew a line under GoldSrc (HL1) and made Source actively developed, they would probably cut backwards compatibility and make any radical changes they need to. I imagine multiplatform compatibility and ease of content creation would be priorities.

VALVE ANNOUNCES MAKING GAMES IS HARD

June 9, 2010 -- Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.

Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.

"Also, the game will be even better," they added, missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.

To ask questions about how close we all came to dying, or to ask futile questions about the previously announced E3 ***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** surprise or, less futilely, to schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's delegate to the EU's Valve Time Studies Group, Doug Lombardi.

Surprise!

***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** - Do you think they're trying to say something?

I love their writing. So much. And that they acknowledged "Valve Time". And this:

an historic

THANK YOU!

This is only proper if you pronounce historic like a Frenchman.

Or a Cockney.

'An' in front of a vowel, 'h' neither is, nor sounds like, a vowel. Would you ever actually say 'An historic occasion' out loud? People would think you're mentally deficient.

*edit*

To sum up. Grammar rules are all fine and well, except when they're stupid.

Yes, I have myself, and I've heard quite a few national newscasters say the same.

Admittedly, though, it's a matter of personal taste; there's no "right" answer to this one. I just like the way it sounds.

I'm surprised that I'm surprised by this.

All I gotta say is that E3 surprise better be that they were just kidding about that.

Aperture Science Theme Fun park and test subject disposal facility management sim?

I'll bet they are going to delay it so that the release of Portal 2 will coincide with the release of Portal - The Movie.

Park Dungeon Keeper, part Roller Coaster Tycoon 3? I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Hehe, yeah fair enough. English is a silly language.

subscribing, in case anything gets announced, eventually.
