Post a Picture - Something You Created!

Might I please suggest that there be desktop sized versions in the future? 1920x1080 if anybody's asking.

In other words, that looks awesome!

Last semester I produced a little animated short based on the opening sequence of Half-Life 2, using a researchy sort of non-photorealistic rendering project called Painterly that I've done some development work on the past two summers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g9bG...

I call theft, I drew this one day prior to you drawing it.

BTW, your sig is win. I'll try to contribute if I can find my camera.

So, I dunno if this counts, but, over the course of the last eleven weeks or so, I made this...

...with a lotta, lotta help.

Produced and directed my first high school musical, a production of Ashman and Mencken's Little Shop of Horrors, natch.

RSPaulette - Definitely counts All things created welcome!

aandota - bizarre. And a little creepy.

This is sad, but I immediately thought Mario Brothers. I need to expand my cultural dictionary.

Actually, it was a deliberate part of our production design. We could only afford 2-D plants, and my sister gave the initial idea for it saying "a cut-paper look." My first thought was Super Paper Mario.

The end result was more comic-book than video-game, but you're not far off...

I don't even want to know what the whoosh is. Also, nice avatar.

LOL. That's his tail, I assure you.

Here are two things I whipped up with a free digital sculpting and painting program called Sculptris. It is so much easier to use than the big boy apps costing hundreds of dollars.

Damnit! And here I thought I was going to be playing the APB beta all night, and you come along and entice me with 3D sculpts! Cool cat... thing... btw.

Ya, I called it a cat dragon at first but I think I'm just going to call it a gargoyle. Neither of them took me longer than an hour to sculpt.

The program uses adaptive tessellation so you can get detailed models with much lower poly counts. The tower is ~700k polys and the gargoyle is ~320k polys. I could easily see them explode up to over 3mil and 1.5mil respectively in a program like zbrush or mudbox.

40 minutes-- but I've been modeling all day at work, so it really is APB time now. I'll be playing with this some more this weekend.

Very nice! Isn't Sculptris so simple to use? I've been telling everyone about it but I've met a lot of resistance because it seems so complicated and the work that some people can do with it intimidates them.

Showoff:)

Actually - that is super awesome.

It's super easy I'm installing it at work now so I can show the other artists.

I am making the body for it. Sculptris doesn't have a great way to go back and forth between objects but it does support multiple objects. I tried to do the body for the head all from one sphere and it was too much work. It would be much easier from a simple boxed base mesh. So I'm leaving the torso and going to merge in the arms and legs as four separate objects. It will be better that way as I can now go and look at some source to make the limbs really interesting. I am happy with the way to torso is progressing.

You should really check out this Sculptris program, then, bombsfall. It is probably one of the least "3d" 3d programs out there. It's far mor of a sculpting program than a modeling program. But as Fang pointed out, being able to build a basic 3d model as a base really helps. But more and more, programs are requiring less 3D modeling skill and more "hands on" sculpture know-how.

Yeah I try and tell people that everyone can play with silly puddy. Except Sculptris is silly puddy of an endless supply. (well as much as your computer can handle)

Did I mention its free software?

I never could make anything with silly putty. Except bubbles. Maybe.

I'm going to have to give that sculpture program a try. I am away from my home PC, so you won't see anything for a while.

A buddy of mine did the art, which I laser-etched into the anodization on my paintball marker.

Ooops! Wrong Thread.
