Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Probably a band well known, but I started listening to the Editors a few days ago and am really in love with this band. Sadly no money to order a CD right now, but YouTube is a godsend in that regard.

And while we're at it, M83 has a lot of good, melancholic stuff too.

I really like M83's stuff. I actually just ordered the new Team Ghost on vinyl. I guess Team Ghost is an ex-member of M83's creation. The album sounds a bit more like the old M83 stuff.

I'll have to give the editors a listen.

Sam Beam performed a couple new Iron & Wine songs at a show recently... good stuff. Saw them over at pitchfork.

Edit: Cossak - That Sage Francis song, Best of Times, is very good. Thanks for posting that.

The Editors were huge here about two years ago. Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors is a good song, as is All Sparks and An End Has A Start.

Seriously, Radio 1/the NME bums them.

I didn't read all 12 pages so I don't know if they've already been mentioned, but Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers just became my favorite band again. Sort of a modern roots rock thing, with some heavy country, reggae and Springsteen vibes here and there. Roger and his drummer are formerly of The Refreshments; you might remember them from their one hit Banditos, which name dropped Jean-Luc Picard. Probably the finest drinking music around. They have a free sampler pack of MP3s from various albums here: http://www.peacetimegoods.com/ptgsho...

If Mekong doesn't do anything for you, anything at all, I must question whether you do, in fact, have a soul.

Metal

Might as well mention the Avett Brothers. They're three young guys from North Carolina (two are brothers, one isn't) who play something that can best be described as love songs made with a mix of punk and bluegrass.

Yes, there are banjos. Banjos rule.

Three of my favorites:

Pretty Girl from Chile

Swept Away (a love song for the ladies)

Die Die Die

Since i've been listening to nothing but these guys for the past few days I feel it necessary to pimp Anamanaguchi. Awesome 8bit electrorock. You can listen to their album for free on their site.

The site doesn't work for me for some reason (i.e. the songs won't play), but after listening to them on youtube I am a fan Thanks Asz!

You can listen to a song from Janelle Monae's upcoming album Archandroid. It features Of Montreal. I'll definitely be picking up this album to compliment my Metropolis vinyl.

Has Ida Maria shown up here, yet?

Sweet! I'm definitely picking it up next week when it gets released!

Unfortunately, someone didn't want that Carbon Leaf video on youtube, anymore.
And VDOWhoNeedsDD posted that Mumford and Sons song 1 page ago.
Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars.

Here ya go.

I just bought this album on Amazon mp3's $5 deal for April.

These guys are freakin' fantastic! They put on a great live show.

Here's mine:
Paik - "Star 80"

For people you like powerful instrumental stuff. Think Sigur Ros meets The Cure meets Slowdive meets Pelican.

Have I seen no Sleater-Kinney posts? Yeah, they broke up a few years ago, but I don't care. I love this band.

Jumpers:

You're No Rock-n-Roll Fun:

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen these guys in here, although I'm not sure how many of you already know about them.
From "Broken Bells'" first album;
My favourite song of the record:

The runner up, (for me,):

And their best known song, even has a video.

So I noticed a couple posts, one for The Dead Weather's and one for LCD Soundsystem's upcoming albums. I just wanted to point everyone to KCRW (because I am a fan of that station, as some may well remember), wherein there are album previews of said artists' new/upcoming albums, as well as a full-length preview for the new Band of Horses album, Jonsi's Go, and the New Pornographers' newest LP. These are all complete albums, on demand, at KCRW.

Enjoy.

Edit: Oh yeah-- there's also an EP of KCRW DJs remixing Ozomatli's upcoming album, available on the same page. Good stuff.

Thanks, glad you like.

Every once in a while I start listening to some odd band and just can't stop for weeks. The Konki Duet is one of those.

One more:
Battles - "Atlas"
Amazing drummer, John Stanier (from Helmet)!

That's a favorite of mine. It also has about the level of vocals I'm looking for (i.e., meaningless and more like music than words).

You might like 65daysofstatic's "Drove Through Ghosts (To Get Here)"

Anyone know of any metal without vocals? Like I've mentioned before, I dig the music, but I'm not crazy about everyone having Cookie Monster on lead vocals.

Yes! Blotted Science, Animals as Leaders, Chimp Spanner, John 5, Liquid Tension Experiment (often more prog than metal, but it has its moments), BulB...I'm sure there are many more that I'm forgetting.

For me, that Band of Horses album is the album of the year, so far. Hell, its the best album I've heard in years. Years.

Agreed. I don't know how many times I've listened to it through my links above already, but I'll still be picking up a copy when the CD is released this Tuesday.

I couldn't get the link to work, today, but for anyone else looking to listen its streaming at their website, now.

That's good stuff. Exactly my kinda thing. I'll need to check them out some more.

Thanks!

I finally checked out this live session of Flying Lotus' newest, Cosmogramma. Awesome stuff.

In case the link up there doesn't work, here's a couple youtube samples:

And a link because the youtube tag didn't work for this one: MmmHmm
