Fringe Catch-All - You Are My Favorite Thing, Fringe. My Very Favorite Thing.

Yup, same guy.

I finally got to watch this, but I watched it on Hulu, so there were no teases for next week's episode.

Regarding the X-Files vibe, I thought that was entirely intentional, especially when Ferguson said to the Goonie, "I think you want to believe."

Spoiler:

I can't believe Olivia is a V!

hahahaha dang it, now its ruined!

Spoiler:

how come these surgeries killed the people? The flawed people before were back to normal - did it kill the ones with positive powers (the girl that could read auras) or are they just not wanting to leave any evidence? Either way it attracts attention and possibly Olivia and the feds. It's not big enough to worry about, but it does make me wonder.

Spoiler:

If the flawed people you are referring to are the ones that had pieces of Walter's brain in them they returned to normal because they had a foreign object implanted in their brain taken out, not a piece of their lobe removed.

So maybe the question should be how did Walter survive having pieces of his brain removed?

Anyway I'm all caught up. Was actually caught up, except for Brown Betty on Tues. Which had me guessing (correctly) who the Secretary was, and all that. But I didn't come in here to post until I was truly caught up. And thanks to my wife's crazy busy week, we just got time to watch Brown Betty and Northwest Passage back to back today.

Also, no previews here still, since I have been watching delayed divx copies of stuff. But maybe next Thurs I'll finally see some live Fringe.

Been a fantastic few weeks catching up. Now I have to play the waiting game again. Sometimes I think I should just wait until it's all over, but oh well.

Now, I can also ask what was up with Leonard Nimoy in Brown Betty? That clearly wasn't his face, but was that even his voice? Is he just reduced to voice work only now or was it just that one episode? I thought I heard something about him retiring from acting recently, but we need our evil ambiguous Belly!

Ah, yes. Forgot about that...

Spoiler:

Walter's brain was tampered with to modify his personality and erase memories of certain events, but Walter and his knowledge are too important so care was taken to keep him alive and his memories retrievable. The more recent victims were not so important, or lucky.

My guess is that they have already filmed all of Nimoy's material, usually for big names they try to do it all in one lump to get it done with nice and quick in case bad scheduling happened. Now if they had to change the story for some outside forces..say a head honcho at Fox deciding that every show had to have some kind of musical number (so far my favorite has been the karaoke on House i think) they had to change gears and come up with a filler story. Rather than paying big bucks for Nimoy again, or if he was retired at that point they just did some C magic and hired a cheap impersonator...or had him phone it in.

I read somewhere recently (I believe Nimoy's twitter) stating he recently finished up some final Fringe stuff. So I'm expecting we'll see more of him, even if it's in a limited capacity.

PS: This is my favourite show on TV right now.

PSS: Found it. From his Twitter:

did some final touches on Fringe yesterday. Looks good. Airing the 13th and 20th llap
8:25 AM May 6th via web

I thought the clip of Nimoy looked like an old Star Trek clip that was edited to look more generic. Then they dubbed in his voice. I thought it worked pretty well.

I feel sorry for Walter. He really loves his son but doesn't have the social skills to explain why he does what he does

Cool little trivia: In the last episode Walter mentioned the Zelazny building. This has got to be a shout out to the late, great science fiction writer Roger Zelazny, who wrote the Chronicles of Amber, an epic sci-fi story about a family of demigods who could travel between alternate realities.

Watching it again, it looks like a CG face to me. It has that weird, plastic look you get with CG; I imagine they made it high-contrast black and white to make it blend a little better.

Well, the finale looks to be a 2 parter, from the tv guide article I read last night (sorry, I was bored and it said FRINGE).

Spoiler:

Looks like Walternate went into politics after Peter's abduction, and the writers are stoked to show how the Olivia vs Olivia match-up works out, as well as William bell and Walter working together again after explaining their falling out.

It's going to be a great 2 hrs of tv that I can't wait for

Blondie Dunham or Brunette Dunham?

What the hell? I mean come on, I'm not made of stone!

Mind = blown. Might a felis pugna result?

That should have been "root" not "vote" in the initial post.

Spoiler:

the 'other' dunham is actually a ginger. and there's no way i m rooting for anyone other than the hot fiesty/fiery dunham with her hair down!

Holy moly. That trailer was well done. Does it really show that

Spoiler:

they plan to show the majority of the finale from the perspective of the Fringe unit on the other side, investigating the weird activities and antics of the otherworldly intruder-soldier, who is none other than our world's Olivia Dunham? That's pretty cool!

Well, the title of the finale is...

Spoiler:

..."The Other Side."

Looks like Nimoy is in it. That's good enough for me.

Right... but I had assumed

Spoiler:

that we would simply watch Olivia on the other side, trying to foil their invaders into our world. It looked like from the trailer that we may actually watch alter-Olivia trying to foil our-Olivia from invading her world. Maybe I'm reading too much into the trailer.

Read what you want - this is Fringe. This is going to be fantastic!

I'm getting goosebumps just waiting....sadly a friend came into town who hasn't yet become addicted and wants to do something else....so i will be a late watcher today....

and yes... i am using the word friend loosely...friends don't keep friends from watching Fringe.

Almost time! My first live Fringe. Whee.

Hmm. Strange. It may just have been all the shiny at the beginning of the episode, or that the show uses a brighter color palette for the other universe, but it didn't quite feel like Fringe. Not that I'm complaining, it was still entertaining.

Spoiler:

I interpreted the way the alternates talked about things falling through into their universe, often hostile and infectious, to mean that there are more than just the two universes we've seen so far.

I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this, like we're already hitting the same ridiculously-over-the-edge point that destroyed Alias and LOST, the last two shows to bear JJ Abrams' name.

Definitely enjoying it. I am missing the Peter dynamic of the trio, though, so I hope they are able to bring it back around... somehow.

Fringe hasn't let me down yet - I am pretty sure we're in for a treat next week

Wha? c'mon, man, that was as well a crafted hour of storytelling awesomeness as I've seen in the last several years. Lost Season 6 should be taking notes. Fringe got a whole lot of good storytelling done in 1 hour. Compare to this week's Lost... what a waste of an hour that was.
