(PC) TF2 GWJ 2010 Summer Tournament (There can be... only one. )

I don't have a horse in this race, and am usually in favor of people playing whatever they want, but I actually was surprised how much I liked the class limits we used in the Telltale match. It made a huge difference on the final point of Dustbowl, which often degenerates into demo spam back and forth, with BLU trying to break through a forest of sentrys. Staats referred to it as cp_maginot_line, and I think that's pretty close to the mark (only without Belgium as a flanking option for attackers).

If a team is so uncoordinated that The Judge's scenario actually happens (someone inexperienced ends up forced to play spy), they're not going to last very long, regardless of whether there are class limits in place.

The restriction were pretty loose I thought. The engineer restriction was the only one that seriously affected things; I don't think we would have run 3+ demomen (though that is plausible) and a restriction of 4 is pretty meaningless. Just adding the engineer restriction is enough to keep points from going into "super serious let's build 5 sentries" lockdown.

It'd be cool if we could add restrictions on a map to map basis. 2fort with no engineers might actually be playable.

Can't you just do this with 1 engy as you showed us on dustbowl that day on defense?

The only thing I don't like about Engineer restrictions is sometimes I go engie to help build up teles and things during setup and swap to another class afterwards.

Not anymore.

I agree. And the restrictions are best applied on a map to map and team to team basis. If the offense wants three engineers, go nuts! KOTH, who cares? Some maps probably can stand 3 engineers.

I don't see the why we need to restrict. Any team that has too many of one class never really wins anyway.

I think everyone here is smart enough to know where the balance lies.

I don't think I've played this 'TF2' game before, but I'll throw my name in the hat.

Regarding class limits. I open to having them, but I would prefer no limits. Having 4 engineers is not necessarily a recipe for success. You just have to change your own team's class makeup to compensate. Teams that are unwilling to adjust their classes when the situation calls for it, deserve to lose, IMO.

This.

I am interested.

I need to know when the matches will run though. Last two weeks in august I am on vacation before going to PAX so if games are scheduled then...

If If I can get to the games I am interested.

Well, I'll give it a go. It would give me some motivation to get back into TF2.

Well I think it is about time I "de-lurk" and join in with the homoerotic banter... So count me in!

Well, I've got decent ping times so I guess I'm in.

The only thing that needs to be limited is demos.

And if we play trains, snipers.

Only the ones with rifles. The huntsman users can stay, since they still have to time it accordingly.

I wonder if we should start another group for alts? That way, if you guys are short someone, you can post an event and pull someone out of the pool.

Except for Nuean. He'll have to be forced to use the rifle!

That is hate speech.

Only because I hate demos more than I hate early tanks.

Look, a demoman fires explosive grenades in all directions and they bounce unpredictably. I mean, come on, that's just dangerous. It could hurt innocent bystanders. I'm pretty sure it's a war crime.

OH GOD NO!! Thats cruel and unusual punishment.

Quintin_Stone wrote:

Is that in the code of conduct?

I dunno. I feel like we get pretty good competition almost every night of the week. Not sure I feel the need for this. But if everybody else is doing it, I don't want to be the guy sitting alone on the pub because there's a "match" on the private.

So count me in I think?

Has anybody played trains as a serious map, ever?

I'm in.

How dare you not take trains seriously.

I tried ukick's suggested fresh reinstall of Steam, and it *seems* to have resolved my VAC issues. (fingers crossed!) Even so, due to a slightly unpredictable gaming-time schedule, I think I'll hang out in the alternates pool.

Well, by popular decision class limits will not be enforced then, enjoy your 6 man spy teams!

I'll update first post soon, but signups have slowed down a bit. If you're interested in playing time is running out, don't be left out

Also, an anonymous GWJer has decided to chip in with a prize, good times =)

ENTIRE TEAM IS BABIES!

I'm in!

A little late to throw my vote for class limits. I think it would be nice to give the newbies a little direction and cause me less frustration over a third spy.

I'm in. Count me as one more.

Since I don't know what my availability is going to be like put me in the alts pool.

Actually, since I know I'm not very good and dont' really know the maps put me in the "alts who suck" pool.
