Hmm, maybe a draft would be best then. Or a random draw.

I just like the idea of ukick and Brainz and the others having to study all our statistics and then sit at their computers picking names.

Actually, thanks to idlers, it's a horrible measure.

I'm in.

As to the draft:

Why not do an actual draft, and then have team assignments be random? As in, the captains all pick the teams, but they aren't necessarily picking their own team. That should help eliminate any bias or player-knowledge advantage.

Count me in as possibility.

This is only a suggestion:

Pick 2 nights a week with 4 captains (2 differenct captains each night). Have each captain pick their one or two co-captians and auto assign the rest. This allows for it to be more of a pick up match and keeps things simpler, which is what it is going to take to make things work. This will also help you gage interest to let you know how serious people are about showing up. It also kind of has the best of both worlds, it offers the competitive gameplay that you are seeking, but in a casual manner.

If the interest grows then you can expand on things, but I would try my best to keep things simple and flexible in the beginning.

I'm in. Time to dust off the old rifle.

I also prefer 12 vs 12 if possible but I don't really care too much. I'm quite flexible in my plans of killing you guys.

The rankings may say that but the bullets in my head say otherwise!

Please throw me into this blender too Mex.

Definite split up the top hard core guys. After that, go random, do an offline draft, draw names from a hat, whatever. Just put us somewhere and don't tell us how we got there. Doesn't matter, just have fun and welcome the fresh meat - I mean, new players.

I think larger teams would be better based on the number of newer people stepping up. It is easier for newer players to blend in and less pressure on them. 6 on 6 would feel too competitive and not fun to them. Just my opinion.

I'd like to join in. Is there a preferred place to request an invite to the GWJ TF2 Steam Group? My Steam ID is the same as my GWJ user name.

Would we be signing up for specific classes? Since it's going to be a casual tournament, I think it would be more fun to allow everyone to flexible in their roles. In the same vein, it would be also be fun to play a mix of game types if possible. I am not sure how this would work in terms of a tournament, though; maybe a few matches of each game type, i.e. something like best 2/3 in Payload, CP, and Territory, then best 2/3 out of those?

Anyway, sounds like fun; I'm looking forward to it.

I'm up for it.

The only suggestion I have is that if there's any sort of draft, you pick in the opposite order every other round.

I'm in favour of doing two or three rounds of a draft to make sure that the very top players are dispersed throughout the teams, and then switching over to random drawing afterwords, both for expedience and to minimize hurt feelings and obsessions over rankings and whatnot.

I am for sure interested in this. When would we start playing. I don't have strong enough internet connection at my current home away from homes right now, but I move into my house at the end of May, so in June I may be able to jump into this.

I think this is a good idea. The team captains can do whatever they like to get the teams together, as long as they at least try for some team balance, and then tell us what team we're on.

The only way I think 6v6 would be tolerable if it was restricted to koth maps and possibly all-melee.

If you're just checking the thread again, I strongly encourage you to open up steam and check your ping to our pub server ( address in my sig) just to make sure you don't have a horrible 300+ connection. I think the absolute limit is around 250, considering this is more of a casual deal.

If it's not a very good connection, or you might expect your internet to improve in the coming weeks, we can add you to the "possible alternates" list if you want.

Did you get this idea from our Starcraft 2 tourney?

No, I saw it after I started the thread, I hope it doesn't conflict too much...

The only thing I might suggest Mex is that we might want to adjust the randomized teams least we end up with a Brains/Blob/Ukick/Mex team.

If people are fine with this idea, I think it's the best solution. Just a little tweaking to avoid the aforementioned stacks and having too much hardcore in one team. Random + a little tweaking. If you really want to be on some guy's team you can ask I suppose.

Grouping by geographic location would be ideal but honestly I don't want to start asking where everyone lives and what time zone it is. And server rankings aren't very accurate, EVERYONE knows I'm #1

This is a good idea, but I'm going to trust you guys to show up. If after the first few games people fail their team(but I know you wont ) we might change the format...

Schedule will hopefully be worked out right after signups, and maybe even before.

We still need a few more team captains, all you have to do is work with your team and figure out the best day/time for matches with the opposing team's captain. Otherwise I'll have to pick them randomly I guess.

Thanks for the interest guys, good time to invite people from your friends list to the forum =)

A summer of melee taunt fortress. Does it get any better than that?

Sorry I missed the class limits question, I'll update the first post later tonight.

I suggest we use Dimmerswitch's class limitations from the GWJ/Telltale match:

Up to 2 each of demo, medic, and engineer, and up to 4 of any other individual classes. (So no 6-man spy expeditions).

I'd also add class limits on spies and snipers to 2, but that's more of a personal pet peeve. Those teams just never seem to win.

Only if everybody is using the Equilizer.

Haven't played with the GWJ community in awhile. Will gladly partake in this.

Looks like I'd also need an invite to the TF2 group.

I'd like to tentatively sign up but currently don't have a computer that will play TF2. Hopefully that'll change by the time this gets rolling, but perhaps sign me up as an alternate for now.

Toss me on the list. We'll deal with the consequences and details later.

Someone has to do the killing, and someone has to get killed. I'm likely volunteering for the latter, but sign me up anyway

I'll even think about using a mic and risking the wrath of my family while they try to watch TV in the same room.

Interested, if my moving doesnt get in the way.

Count me in, but only if we do larger team sizes. I have no interest in 6v6.

Count me in.

And could I get an invite to the GWJ TF2 Steam group? Steam ID is Nevin73.

Sounds like fun! Harder to commit to a schedule during the summer though.

<--- I am expressing interest, sign me up.

I'm interested. However, Steam may have other ideas about my ability to engage in tournament play, or even just to play recreationally for more than 10 minutes without booting me to the menu with a VAC connectivity error.

Sign me up.

Also can I get an invite to the Steam group, please?

Count me in too. Been meaning to get back into some TF2 action this summer.

Don't run! Is only sandvich!
