(PC) TF2 GWJ 2010 Summer Tournament (There can be... only one. )

Ugh, 400 ms. Guess I'm out. I can partly blame that on 3G though.

Sign me up.

Also can I get an invite to the Steam group, please?

Oh why not - I haven't played TF2 for some time - for sure well before this whole "hats" thing and what appears to be some sort of crafting system. . .? ? ? who snuck a MMO into my FPS!!!!

I'd need an invite to the TF2 group also - Steam profile is in the sig.
Thanks.

As long as the games aren't on Tuesday(WoW raid night), I'm in.

Same here.

Thirded.

Fourth'ded.

Any idea how you want to do this, Mex? Choose captains and draft? Assign by server ranking? Random draw? combination of the three?

Now I'm happy.

I was kinda hoping to get the ultra-competitive 6-V-6 style game, but I will play.

I'm in.

/me votes for a post 9pm CDT gameslot. Easiest time for me to guarantee availability.

Sign me up. Fear the sniper.

Did you get this idea from our Starcraft 2 tourney?

I have TF2, and played a few hours (yes, total) with goodjers last summer. I sucked and ran away like a frightened school girl. I felt like a special ed student in a room full MIT grads.

Do I qualify? I'd be up for it if the teams are somewhat evenly matched.

I'm in.

Should we try and pool people into a loose "skill level" ordering so that we can help spread the regulars/non-regulars around? Not intended to hurt feelings or anything, just to avoid the team stacking Mex was talking about.

Edit: or if there isn't a draft :(, then I vote for geographic grouping. Also prefer 12 person as opposed to 6 person teams. I wouldn't mind trying 6 person, but I don't think I would like it and most of the people here definitely wouldn't like it. Too predictable and not enough chaos.

In.
And another vote for the kinder, gentler large teams.

That's why I was thinking maybe going by server ranking would be a good idea. If you have, say, six teams, then player 1 would be assigned to team one, along with players 7, 13, 19, etc. Players 2, 8, 14, 20... would be team two, and so on. And then maybe those that haven't played with us before (or at least not on the new servers) could be randomly assigned, drafted, etc.

Or we could have two separate leagues...but personally I'd rather the regulars and the newcomers play together. For community-building purposes.

The only thing I might suggest Mex is that we might want to adjust the randomized teams least we end up with a Brains/Blob/Ukick/Mex team.

Server ranking matches names, not steam ids.
Therefore boogle and boogle, son of Osiris, though both are me, score to separate sames.

True, but I thought the only person for whom that would really matter is ukick, as he's the only one that's played under two names for any significant period of time.

...it's just an idea, though.

I'm throwing my hat into the ring!
I can play a variety of classes just above decent. If we decide to go with the ultra-competitive 6v6 i'll stick to medic.

I'm in favor of larger teams; 9 to 12 if it was up to me.

I really need an excuse to play this game some more (and more importantly, get my headset and mic working properly again)... I'm in!

Have you been on on a normal night? Staats goes through more names than a whore does condoms...

I think it's a good idea, Min. I don't know of any other way to avoid stacks. Drafting might help with that so long as all the captains know who is good and who is not. I think your idea works as well as drafting without the hurt feelings. Either that or we could go by number of hats for a ranking. Rank people by number of hats so that anyone with 8+ hats gets split up. Mex with his tower would count each hat as one.

Does that mean I get to be on 2 teams or just I get 2 ukicks on my team?

I'm in, time to download TF2 again.

I think you just get to be player one. By a wide, wide margin.

We were talking about this a few days ago with Telltale games. The server rankings are by in-game handle, not steam ID. Because of that, it's not really the best indicator of skill, because you have people that are ranked across several different handles, lowering their actual rank.

For example, there are about 55 different Boogle variants. And ukick is #3 and #11.

If we go by hat count (which is an excellent measure of time spent playing, btw) then won't we need to ask people how many hats they have? I just checked out my steam profile. I can see achievements but not hats.

Why not just have a draft using our steam profiles? here's me. Only 24 hours in game. See? I'm crappy. Pick me last.

All-Star game style: East vs West!

I'll play.

Oh yes... I'll play.

I'm in. For air support.

I'm sure I'm at the very bottom of the server rankings these days but you guys can do it that way if you want to.
