(PC) TF2 GWJ 2010 Summer Tournament (There can be... only one. )

Sure, why not relearn how to Uber? Final Fantasy is starting to get reeeeeeeeal boring.

Sounds like a decent idea, but I don't know that I'd be around a lot this summer as my work schedule is going to be 8 kinds of jacked up.

If you're "kinda interested" you can sign up as an alternate and maybe you can play in a match or two. Depending on how many people show up and after dealing with the scheduling mess I hope it's all over by June.

Well the Pub is going to be used for it, but Monday/Friday private games are on the private anyway so that's going to be unaffected. Besides matches take only an hour or so, maybe 1.5hrs if you include set up time. Unless they're "Epic" matches but I don't see those happening too often.

No one can do this don't worry

I don't think you will have to worry about that, as only 2 teams will ever be playing at once, and if we have smaller teams, not many people will be missing. We still get a decent lineup on official nights, too.

I'm a friend of DF7 and would also like to play in this exciting sounding tournament dealy.

I would love to join in on the TF2ing madness.

could I get a invite to the steam group?

I'm in.

OTHER TEAMS ARE BABIES

I'm in. Sounds like fun!

I'm in. Been a long time since I played. I'll try to dust the cobwebs off over the coming week. Awesome idea!

I don't play very regularly anymore, but I'd be in for this.

I am definitely in. However, I am not interested in 6v6 style match ups. I prefer playing with a larger team.

What the heck, why not add some structure to my somewhat random playing of tf2.

I'm in!

I'll play. Just as long as no jerks are on the other team. That means you've got to put them all on my team.

I'd love to get in on a tournament. Steam id's in my sig

I'm game.

Same here.

I'm interested, but my Internet access will be somewhat spotty for a few weeks. When do you plan to actually start the matches?

I'd also like larger teams... maybe teams of 15, with 12 active at a time?

And I think I want to be on his team.

This sounds like a great way to start playing TF2 again. Can I get an invite to the Steam group?

This was a damn good idea mex! Everyone is coming out of the woodwork for this, it's going to be awesome.

Let the delurking commence! I'm in.

Steam link is in my signature.

Really depends on the dates. As I live in Europe, I need to be able to sleep in the next day
Otherwise, I am great at being canon fodder!

I would love to join but living in Australia I'm not sure i will get a very good connection to whatever server you will play on.

I'm in.

I've barely touched TF2, so I barely even know many of the maps, and certainly don't know strategies or tactics. I'll be a team captain though, I don't mind handling the organizing part, especially if I can get some team members who can teach me how to actually play again ;p

Day 1 update

Awesome turnout so far

Here's the list of people that want to play, and after that, those who I think want to play but their message wasn't very clear, so please confirm if you're on the 2nd list?

The server address is in my sig, you guys can try connecting to it and seeing how good is your ping. AP Erebus connects from Australia too I think, and he has around 250, he can play medic but anything else is too laggy. Also, schedule could be a problem...

The team size really depends on how many people sign up, the more the better. Right now we have 32 people, that's at least 2 teams of 12 =)

Plan is to start as soon as possible once signups end, hopefully during may-june. I think the sooner we get it done, the better, so people don't lose interest, I'd love to do it all in a week or two even, but it's going to be up to the schedules that each team agrees on.

Anyway, please invite your friends and tell the regulars to check this thread and sign up, the best case scenario would be like 8 teams of 12 + alternates, we'd need about 100 people. Once we know how many people are into it, we'll try to make the teams as big as possible. A 24 man match is a lot more fun, I agree.

One thing I'd like to discuss is if it's allright with everyone to do random teams.

Ideally I'd like to avoid teamstacks because it would be unfair to the more casual guys. I also know it's cool to group with friends. So to encourage people to be Team Captain, as a perk they'd get a chance to pick one or two players from the pool (if they want to), and the rest of the team would be assigned randomly. Captain's choice would be private. The only real responsibility required from team captains is for scheduling purposes.

This is one option that would be inclusive for the lurkers who are kinda new to the game and don't really have the relationships that the regular guys have. It would hopefully avoid teams that had for instance ukick+MyBrainz+EriktheRed+etc that would roll over everyone else, which would be fun for one team but not for everybody else. And if someone wants to invite their friend who doesn't play much TF2, you can ask to be on his same team I suppose.

If anyone has a better suggestion, or you just want to be able to pick everyone on your team it's a good time to discuss that. I know it's probably not the best solution, but based on the Telltale vs GWJ match, I'd rather not have a series of TF2 superstars rolling over everyone else.

In conclusion, current idea is : Team Captains can choose a player from the pool if they want, but it's not encouraged, rest of the team is random.

I'm in like the above-mentioned Flynn.

I assume the tournament times will be set in some American timezone? I guess I'd be willing to wake up in the early morning for a good fight anyway. Also, my European ping sucks from time to time, so please just set autokick to a reasonable number (e.g. 250-300 should be golden). If Mex can be a king even with a sucky ping, I can try too.

Count me in.

I'm all for random teams.

I'm in.
Random teams FTW. It worked out well with our Heroes after all.

Count me in.

I'm interested. Used to play original QWTF tournaments back in the day but am terribad at it now.

Only concern is timing as I'm on GMT and after midnight's not going to be feasible for me.
