If you're a regular visitor to the site, then you've noticed the absence of the ubiquitous donation button that is sported so prominently in so many other places. Couple that with the lack of advertising or subscription fees, and we practically break our own arms patting ourselves on the back for not trying to bilk our readers of their hard earned dimes. Of course, eventually we have to stuff that smug pride in a bottle and screw on the cap tight for a couple of weeks and rattle the soup can full of seeded quarters at you guys. Perhaps this shiny distraction that one lucky donor will win courtesy of our patron saint of "˜bringing the awesome', Gameguru, will redeem this blatant request for dollars!
*UPDATE* New prizes added! F.E.A.R and Quake IV for the PC and Uncle Guru saw fit to add a second place prize... A BRAND NEW SONY PSP! Read on for details and the other games added to the list!

It's been a year since our last request for donations. That last drive, frugality, an occasional t-shirt sale, good deals on hosting, and selling Pyro on the corner of Hollywood and Vine the night before we left E3 – he loved it - put us in a comfortable position for the year, but the coffers have gone all Mother Hubbard on us, and Pyro just isn't as pretty as he used to be. So we return with contests on the page, hat in hand, heart on sleeve, gas gauge on empty, and probably foot in mouth. Or to put it simply – give us money, win prizes, support GWJ.
Read on for details.
Please note that if you did not register on the site by October 22nd you're not eligible to win the grand prize.
More Prizes!
Second Place in the draw gets a Sony PSP!
After the two grand prizes are drawn, we will draw more names to choose from our list of excellent games! Thanks to Propagandalf for kicking a few in.
How To Donate
We offer two ways to donate, snail mail and PayPal.
Paypal Email: [email protected]
Also note the handy dandy donate button to the left with our affiliate links. *Update* Pyro and Grumpicus figured out a way to make the donation button include the user's forum name when the money is sent in, thanks guys!
If your forum name is not obviously recognizable from either your buyer name or email address you used with paypal (so that I know immediately from the transaction info who sent the donation), then please send a separate email to me including the dollar amount, your real name, site name and email from which you sent the donation. If you don't, you may not be eligible for the prizes or your donation icon!
Snail Mail – Please note, all snail mail donations must arrive before November 14th to be eligible for the grand prize drawing. Send early! –

As always donors get a special forum icon added to their name. Readers who have donated once get a golden key, twice gets a gold watch, and those who will be our big third timers will get "… it's a surprise! You're gonna love it.
The Prizes – Watch this area as we will be adding a few more prizes over the next week!
Only residents of North America are eligible for the grand prize. Staff of GWJ and their families are not eligible to win (staff of GWJ being defined as anyone who has had posting privileges to the front page).

How to Win :
Like last year, this is such a huge prize we offer multiple entries for those of you who donate a little more. Also, we have a new wrinkle for this year; if you donated in one of our previous drives you gain 1 bonus entry in the final drawing with your donation this year.
The scale for this year is the same.
Donations/Entries into the drawing (U.S. funds)
$10 - $24 = 1 entry
$25 - $49 = 2 entries
$50 - $74 = 3 entries
$75 and up = 4 entries
One more big thank you goes out to Gameguru for putting together a great grand prize! We can't wait to see who the big winner is this year.
(Donations will be used for site related purposes, including but not limited to providing travel and hotel expenses for E3 coverage, hosting costs, equipment costs, and site management)

Finally one of these I can actually participate in.

Gameguru, you're the man. Just wish I had more to give...
I figure I can say 'Thanks, Certis, Ely, and Pyro!' 'til I'm red in the face, but this is a nice chance to really support my favouritest of websites. Plus, that key is boss. I can't wait.
Thanks to GG, too, for donating such a Female Doggoin' prize.

I can finally support GWJ :D. Guru is amazing too.

I just hope someone a little more... regular on the site wins this time. I'm kewl with lurkers and all, but it was kinda disappointing when it wasn't like Mex or Vector or 1Dgaf or someone I've seen lots of posts from that won last time around. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but... ya know. Whatever. I'll be sure to check my bank account tomorrow and see what kind of fundage I've got. Gotta support the GWJ, hell, Friday thru Saturday night on BF2 is worth the money, easy.

While I know what you mean Demos, if they pony up to help The Goodjer, then it's all fair. It's about cash, not total posts.
PayPal hates me, so i'm going to actually have to Snail Mail in a a donation.
I love America more than any other country in the world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.
Watch me learn to draw.
Everything is working in favour for me this year. Large amount of excess cash and a paypal account. I have always wanted to donate but never really had an viable means.

Woah.
Time to shake out my couch for $10, and hope I win that.. my rig is getting rather long in the tooth.
I think we all need to stop avoiding the real question here:
WWMCD?
Once again, thanks GG and everyone else donating keen gear for the cause!
THat's a nice thing to say, Demos. I don't think I was allowed to enter the first competition because I was writing things for the site. That's a good rule I think. Also, it was a nice touch for Elysium to say what the winnings would be used for.
(Read 'expenses' to mean a blonde oriental hooker to trim his beard at E3.)
Hold a second... if you've ever contributed you're not allowed to win? Even if you don't contribute to the front page now? Buh?
I think we should also get entries based on how crappy our computers are.
All hail GameGuru, the nerdy Mother Teresa. And, you're having Elysium handle the money!? Yikes. I guess it's better than sending it to... Canada!
I'll PM you my paypal address. Grand prize is something better than a computer; it's a hug from me!
Keeerap that's a nice PC. Whoever wins - I'd like to see some performance specs from it!

You're not a resident of North America anyway, so it's kind of a moot point...at least as far as the grand prize goes...

Not to be an ass here, but what exactly is wrong with just having a donation button up all year?
Let's just make this plain and simple, this is a good site and there is a reason it attracts a certain type of gamer. There are certain rules that tend to exclude a mindset that keeps me off of most other sites. A lot of the regular posters here seem to feel a certain...attachment as it were...to the community because of the type of people we have here.
Now, it would be a bit tawdry if there was some kind of weekly reminder to donate to the site's expenses. However, that doesn't happen here and I think it would all be above board. I believe there are folks here that would donate without the extra incentives we get during the donation drives.
Don't get me wrong, I think the donation drives are great and they seemed to be spaced out enough that they are like events unto themselves. I just don't see anything wrong with having something out there for people who want to contribute financially to a site that doesn't use advertisers or sponsors of any sort.
That said, and minor protest aside, I plan on matching my contribution from last year as soon as I get the money. Fortunately that won't be a problem thanks to the deadline.
