I know, in the U.S. Drum'n'Bass and all it's numerous children and grandchildren or even electronic music in general are still the bastards of the music world, but if you're into stuff like this at all, you should check out Stan SB. 16 year old british kid who makes the most amazing tunes. I can only hope one of the hundreds of rad european labels will pick him up, so he'll have a busy career.

Loved it, thanks. And I'm not normally a fan of D'n'B. I can see this in clubs over here very soon.

Liquid funk - that's the subgenre this can be categorized as - is a very accessible and fun take on Drum'n'Bass. I hope it'll be more successful than its die hard "must stay underground" predecessors. The genre could use some time in the limelight.

Okay, so i just went to an owl city concert and the opening band was "Lights". Not only did she have awesome songs, but she was also a good performer, is hot, and is a gamer. What more could you want? She randomly started talking about WoW in the middle of the concert and said that some of her guild-mates were in the crowd. Later on she also started randomly playing the mario theme song. Her music reminds me essentially of a techno/pop variation of the Portal song. You can tell her music is inspired from video games.

Blind Willie Johnson - Dark was the night, cold was the ground

It's the kind of song that makes me think that most of the music I've been listening to in the past twenty years is mostly crap.

Stumbled across young Mrs. Lights a few months ago and although everything in my geeky brain screamed "LOVE HER!", I keep crossing the border between "yeah" and "meh" constantly. I think it's due to her being just the critical bit too much pop-music-y. It really leaves me unhappy, since ladies Uffie and Alice Glass could have used some company.

I will reiterate... The Morning Benders - Promises. They just came out with a new video that is amusing, and the song is just fantastic (as is the whole album).

I get to see them and Broken Bells next month. It's going to be an awesome show.

Yeah, I mentioned her on page 7: she's pretty awesome. Glad to see she's getting some love. See world: not all Canadian exports suck!

(Again, sorry about Celine Dion and Justin Bieber).

Glad to see she's been metioned I typed "lights" into the great search engine and it didnt show anything so i went ahead.

Shpongle - on a US (DJ Set) tour right now. Recently watched their live performance DVD (a full band/show) from the Roundhouse in London. A-frickin-mazing. Psy-ambient/trance goodness.

Bit too much modern stuff going on - so let me take you back to the 80's for some proto-industrial, courtesy of the late lamented Frank Tovey (aka Fad Gadget).

Still wondering where Depeche Mode got their later sound from ?

There was a lot of Janelle Monae talk a little bit ago, and I just wanted to let ya'll know that I picked up the Metropolis vinyl on record store day (among a ridiculous amount of other stuff actually related to record store day). Red vinyl... sweet disk. Thanks everyone for all the chatter on that. I really dig it.

Well, here's a good track that I've had for awhile, but I am particularly enjoying right at this very moment. It must be listened to with good headphones or a decent audio setup to be fully appreciated. Kaleidoscope by Tiësto with Jónsi doing the vocal stuff. It's a good song to zone out to.

Two:

Probably the best Hip-Hop track of '09.

A great song, but check out Statik Selektah's 90's remix as well, as it's just killer.

Make my funk the P-Funk, I wants to get funked up!

Parliament Funkadelic:
Mothership Connection

You've heard samples from this on "The Chronic" and zillions of other hip-hop songs, but this is the real deal.

Two quick points of contention:

One- At that stage in the game Parliament and Funkadelic were still two different entities. Mothership Connection Being one of Parliament's greatest--if not best--albums. After it's sucsess however, the two became one and the Parliment sound won out.

Two- You're doing a great service in raising funk awareness, but are missing out on an opportunity to post music! The song is referencing (Somebody say "Is there funk after death?" I say "Is seven up?"):

One of my favorite Funkadelic songs for contrast:

How is your interplanetary funksmanship?

I don't have anything to add music-wise, but I just wanted to say to all of you - Thank You! Thank You very much.

Lately I've been thinking my music listening has fallen into a rut and this thread was just what I needed. I've just plowed through the entire thread over the last 2 days and have added more new music in that time than in the last 1 year.

I'm listening to a playlist I created from the songs recommended here (up to about Pg.5 on the thread) and it's just filled with amazing songs. Y'all rock

Stuff I have been listening to lately:

LCD Soundsystem have a new album coming out--their third entitled "This Is Happening"--and there are a few tracks for your previewing pleasure on the you-tubes.

Bonus, because I decided it would be a greater diservice to not link it: Drunk Girls

The Gorillaz recently put out their third album "Plastic Beach" and it may be the best concept album to come out in a while.

The others have embedding disabled... because you're just as likely to click through to Youtube, right? Stylo and On Melancholy Hill

Canadian rockers The Besnard Lakes have just released their third album "The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night" (good things come in threes) and it is quite literally awesome.

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings have releases their... fourth... album "I Learned the Hard Way" and true to their style it sounds like it should have come out forty years ago... and that's a good thing.

Now to wake up those who have zoned out and are just mindlessly clicking. High on Fire has released one of the best metal albums I've heard in a while, "Snakes for the Divine."

EDIT: Some of them have errors (god-damned you-tubes!) just click them again to go to Youtube to watch them.

Wonder if any of you know much about the band Hammock? Heard a tune from them the other day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6kKjyHrXMw and really liked it. Would appreciate recommendations for songs/albums...?

I saw XX open for Hot Chip last week and while I had a bit of time with thier debt album before the show, I'm now a full-on fanboy for them. They remind me of Everything But The Girl for some reason. The tempo of the album is mid to low, making it a fantastic evening album.

Here's another song from them that I enjoy.

Thanks, don't know how I missed that Jay Electronica track from last year, but better late than never; it's damn good. Track of the year is a tight competition though, my vote goes to Brother Ali: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIkRyTzKpsg.

Loved the Joell Ortiz track, but didn't like the remix much - the trumpet sample that starts halfway through seemed like too much and it loses some of the charm.

As for new music, the Nas x Damian Marley collaboration Distant Relatives is sounding really good:

Here's two new blues/rock singles that well... rock. If you haven't heard them yet, give a listen.

The Dead Weather: Die By The Drop

The Black Keys: Tighten Up

I've got the new Dead Weather album preordered and I picked up the 12" single of Tighten Up on record store day. The video for Tighten Up is downright awesome, and there's a T-Rex puppet singing the song.

For those with really short attention spans, the video for Next Girl rocks and there're boobs plus the dancing T-Rex Puppet.

I can't wait for both of these albums to come out!

Dr. Dog - Jackie Wants a Black Eye

Its amazing how this song is both extremely clever and poignant, at the same time. I'm in love with it. All thousand little pieces....of my broken little heart...

This thread is epic and I love each and every one of you for posting in it.

My turn
This is probably the closest Aesop Rock has ever come to pop music

Dub FX is an amazing artist, I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do.

Blitzen Trapper - Furr

My carpool buddy recommended this one - kind of a weird video, but great song.

That whole album is awesome! The style goes all over the place, but in a good way.

I agree with Buffalo.

Black River Killer is posted somewhere in this thread if you haven't checked it out.

Since i've been listening to nothing but these guys for the past few days I feel it necessary to pimp Anamanaguchi. Awesome 8bit electrorock. You can listen to their album for free on their site.

A few more new tracks.

B.o.B - I'll Be in the Sky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5EP3...
This is great fun and I love the video.

Sage Francis - The Best of Times

This is pretty special, really touching but not in a reaching-for-emotion way.
Sage's lyrics have to be amongst the best out there.

Lupe Fiasco - Shining Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh-CI...
Eagerly awaiting a release date for the new album.

edit: PS The King's back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNxvq...

Captain, thanks for the clarification. I have much to learn about the Funk Nation.
