APB: catch all

EDIT: Nevermind, I don't want to cross NDA lines...

There are around 2000 keys available here: http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/...

I just got mine and I'm downloading the client. This is for the NA Beta.

From Massively:

The retail client will be available digitally or in stores ($49.99) and will include 50 hours of 'action' game play plus unlimited time in the social districts. These districts include character customizing, socializing, and marketplace trading. Once you burn through your initial 50 hours of action play, you can purchase an additional 20 hours for $6.99 or opt for the 30-day 'unlimited' package at $9.99. There will also be 90 and 180 day discounts available.

That might actually get me to try it when it comes out. Prior to this I had zero interest in this game.

Same here, I had interest in the game after playing it but I didn't think it was subscription worthy. However, with this pricing model I might definitely play the game.

Full Press release of the pricing and release dates found here

One interesting point to note:

In addition to this flexible payment model, players can also earn game time by actually playing the game. APB provides avenues for accomplished gamers or creators to earn rewards for their creativity and subsidize their ongoing costs with their in-game efforts.

David Jones added: "We wanted to provide a simple and flexible way for occasional and core players alike to pay for their play without being financially tethered to the game. The model also provides an opportunity for customers to subsidize their costs by leveraging their talent or market savvy in the 'points' Marketplace. Highly talented players could potentially even play for free in this way."

Highly looking forward to this.

So, I don't want anyone to break NDA, but I noticed on Steam that there is a week of limited early access starting in a few days for pre-orders- is APB worth picking up?

Unequivocally no.

I guess the adding has spoken.

While I wouldn't recommend picking it up now, I think once you wait for the game to be out of Beta (at least a couple months after release) it would be worth picking up. But not before.

Meh- I'm really just looking for something to keep my occupied now, I have MMO ADD.

play Saint's Row, you'll have more fun with other players and some semblance of avatar progression. Would it be breaking NDA if I asked who else here was in the beta? My name was (wait for it) WipEout (duh) in the game and forum-- I wonder what other GWJers I ran across in my escapades/ranting about the gameplay's... uh... state. Does that comment break NDA? When exactly does the NDA lift, anyway? I only ever see a note that says it's still on, not when it's over.

If one had played the beta, they might suggest that GTA IV's multiplayer is as fully featured and more entertaining then APB's without the silly subscription nonsense. If one had played the beta that is.

Based on the nebulous non-recommendations of fellow goodjers who may or may not have played APB in the beta I am now officially taking this title off my list of "buy soon" and placing it on my "try it when they offer a free version" list. Sad, really. The early gameplay videos showed such promise. Actually the biggest concern I have with the game is the potential for other players to screw it up. Nothing beckons so sweetly to the douchebag gamer as the siren call of nearly unrestricted PvP.

Unrestricted pvp? Yeesh. Hadn't heard about that. Still, it was the creation and customization aspects that had piqued my interest. I'm still going to hold off, though.

Well, from what I'd seen in some developer videos you could choose a server that was full on, no-rules PvP or you could go a standard rules server. I think they said every player in the game was going to be another human player, cops or robbers basically. If you're a cop the only way you can go after a bad guy is to see them commit a crime. Either way, it sounded like one big PvP fest.

I don't want to break the NDA so I'll just say two things.

First, I really enjoy the customization options and since you can do that stuff for free, I might buy the game just to play with all that stuff.

Second, you're wrong about unrestricted PvP. I'd like to give more details but I probably shouldn't. Just know that what they do have isn't that bad.

I can't imagine they'll keep the NDA in place after the early start program for those who pre-order. And that's what? Tomorrow or the day after? I really would like some solid impressions because I AM interested in this game but some of the prior non-comment comments have me worried.

I'll be very happy to give solid impressions once the NDA's lifted. I'm really eager to talk about it, actually.

When is the NDA actually lifted? Release day? I can't find any info on it, and I was in the beta!

This is a no buy for me. The customization is awesome though, character models look really cool and all the accessories, clothing etc. Good job there. The game itself, well, you'll have a better gameplay experience playing GTA4 or Saint's Row 2.

I'll also toss in a wait and see vote and another poke at the "unrestricted pvp" comment.

EDIT-- Arg. Stupid, kind of vague in some aspects NDA. I'll post my thoughts tomorrow, when (I assume) the NDA is lifted since the Key To The City Event launches the game. I really want to talk about my experiences, though...

The release has been pushed back to the 12th. Just to spite you, I imagine.

Yeah, I forgot today's "Key to the City" event is for beta testers and pre-orders only. I'll try jumping on tonight to see if anything has changed from prior experiences, but I doubt it has.

You think you want this, but really with how unbalanced the game is, it would just exacerbate the flaws in the leveling/modding system.

If a particular some else had played the beta, he might also say the same thing.

Look I'm just going to say it-- the PvP is NOT totally unrestricted. I'm pretty sure that much is out on the etherwebs, so I think that's safe to say. What I can't say is how exactly it works-- which is where WiredAsylum's balance issues may stem from, in my opinion.
