Guild Wars Revival

Pages

Looks like a few folks are interested in starting up or reviving their old Guild Wars accounts thanks to the recent Steam sale. I thought I would create this as a kind of roll call/gauge of interest. I'm presuming most folks will have all 3 campaigns, so new toons should be done in Nightfall.

My Nightfall toon is Narayan Al Caldani, a Paragon.

My other level 20s are:

Caledrin Wusterly (Ele/Necro)
Mito Mitsukuni (Warrior/Monk)
F Chivalry Farseer (Mesmer/Ranger)

When you add one of those to your in-game friends list, it goes across toons, so if you add me and see any of those names on, it's me.

For now, unless someone has a guild they can add us to, I think we'll forego a guild. EDIT: We may be joining up with SBD (I assume that's 'Silent, but Deadly').

I'll be making a character as well. I don't have the name yet, but I'll post it here when I do.

Stalk Reah - Doesn't making a friend with one character on an account get you all of their characters? Similar to joining a guild?

Oh wow, Elcyion was right. I never realised this game was totally cross server. I'm so used to Great Walls separating Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

Zul Aronos level 20 Monk
Zula Jamari level 20 Dervish
Zul of the Dead level 20 Necromancer
Zul Faracta level 20 Assassin

Assorted other low levels, you may be able to spot a theme in my naming conventions if you are perceptive.

New toon
Zula Fiero level 4 Elementalist NF

*edit*

Scratched: yep.

I'm tempted to dig up my old dvds and reinstall, but I suspect it would be like the last time I did it: play for a week and stop.

edit: Turns out I carried over the files from my old Windows install. I'm good to go: my main is Mord Kai, but my ranger, Malla Evendell the most.

I've been back and playing for a few weeks as my ranger "Elycion In Exile". It's a Nightfall character, and has that campaign completed. I'm now working my way through Factions as a way of getting re-familiarized with the game. My current plan is to hit Eye of the North when I finish Factions and then if my interest holds out I'll finally go back and do Prophecies.

If everyone is guildless and would like one, even if only to keep chat simple I have Platinum to spare for registering one, making a bad-ass cape and even getting a Celestial Sigil for a hall.

So everyone yell if there's interest.

Ok, character is created, Tkyl Rahl. An Elementalist. And I'd be in favor of a guild if you're offering.

Gee, it's almost like you read the OP...

I have a level 20 of each class. Hit me up on Steam if you need some support. I'm a member of the SBD guild though I haven't been active in a long while so I don't even know if they're still around.

Yeah, when I logged on, I found myself the leader of my old guild, which I was not before, with three other members of the guild, each of which had not logged on for three years.

If desired, we could also give folks invites to SBD - the advantage there is that our guild hall is already decked out with all the NPCs. SBD is also in an alliance with the old GWJ guild. (Not sure who the lead is at this point.)

Still there, just not all that active. But we could change that.

Hey, if there's a decked out hall that's even better.

I'm already in SBD, but I don't recall ever doing stuff with that guild. However, I like the idea of everyone joining the guild I'm in rather than joining some other one

Picked up the game yesterday, but haven't had a chance to play yet. I'll probably create a character tonight and friend some folks up.

A guild with GWJ members would totally be a pirate guild, not a goth guild, right?

Pirates all the way.

I started playing yesterday and got the blue screen of death. I had to nuke my PC, but once that is rectified I'll roll in Nightfall. Probably will be sometime Saturday.

I'm in. Osei Namba (R/?) is my current main though I have 6 or 7 other chars at various stages. I'm currently finishing Nightfall with this one (in the last 2-3 missions) and will then proceed through the other content. I own all the expansions so I can help out anywhere necessary. I'm guildless at the moment, so I'd be up for joining GWJ guild.

I just dished out invites to everyone above this post *except* for Elycion and nihilo - you are already in a guild so I can't send an invite until you drop guild.

To accept the invite, open the guild menu (G).

Wait, you want me to drop out of the SBD guild so that I can join the SBD guild?

Yeah, you can use the International Districts to meet up across country lines.

If the leader doesn't log on for a long time (60 days?) leadership gets passed on.

Yeah, because we are a bunch of old farts.

Technically, the name is Silens Tamen Mortifer, which is Latin for "Silent But Deadly" (according to a machine translator anyway).

We are currently Luxon (pirate) though we've flipped back and forth at times. If I recall correctly, bring in Kurzick versus Luxon wasn't a huge difference for the story quests.

Yeah, I think you joined when we were starting to play other stuff. :/

I want to give you a proper initiation.

Kidding - disregard. I overlooked the fact that you are already in.

Yeah, I don't think it makes much of a difference, it's just the principle.

*edit*

And I'm in. Nice guild hall. Of course, I'm several hours out of sync with everyone else, but it will be nice to cross paths occasionally.

So if I wanted to give this a whirl what do I have to buy?

$20 on sale

WiredAsylum wrote:

This is a start. It doesn't get you Eye of the North, but a metric f**kton of content nonetheless.

I'd recommend Guild Wars Trilogy on sale for $19.99 on Steam.

You get all three of the main chapters. The only thing missing is the Eye of the North expansion, which I think is of little use before you get a L20 character.

Edit: Hahaha too funny. Tannedx2.

WiredAsylum wrote:

Yep the Trilogy has a huge amount of content. I'd suggest starting a new character in Nightfall as the heroes come in really handy when you go into the other expansions. Factions is the easiest to level in. I think my first Factions Assasssin made it to level 20 before I was off the beginning island

The thing to remember about Guild Wars is that compared to other MMOs, level and gear don't matter as much as the skills and build your character uses and how that build complements your team (human or hero). This is where new people coming from other MMOs get discouraged by GW -- They want that big loot drop and that is not how it works in GW. You can buy max level armor pretty early on and you will hit the level max (20) before getting halfway through a campaign. Getting elite skills and finding the bosses that have the one you want can be challenging and one of the most fun things to do in the game. The skills part of GW is a little like a collectible card game. You can only carry a limited number of skills on your build, so what role you want your char to play depends on that and how you allocate your skill points. You can re-spec at any time outside an instance, so it is simple to keep a set of builds saved for any need you might have. (The game provides a mechanism to save, share, and apply builds). I keep different sets of armor with different runes applied to fit with what particular build I am running.

I'm down to play some Guild Wars. I haven't played in a while but recently reinstalled it to play some RA matches. Never finished Eye of the North or Nightfall but would like to.
