NFL 2010 Draft + Offseason Thread (also, humiliation!)

Wait, wait, wait. The Steelers weren't shopping Big Ben?

*cough*shenanigans*cough*

Finally got through the podcast. You guys do a really good job of not stepping on each other and play off each other well. Nicely done.

Also, I now have an almost inescapable urge to start a new punk band and call it "Left 4 Dead Cockblock". Because that would be awesome.

Well, our biggest hole is at QB. If we didn't already have 4 of them on the roster, the Clausen pick would actually make a little sense.

Now, if the Big Ben rumors are true...

More like five. JaMarcus Russell clearly counts for two.

Actually, maybe five and a half . . .

Hah.

I don't wish Oakland on anyone, but if they were somehow clandestinely taken over by competent people, I would think well of that franchise drafting Clausen.

The Raiders need to decide what they're doing with Russell. There are two legitimate options:
* Keep him because his 2010 and 2011 salaries are guaranteed. You're already paying it. So put him at #3, hope maybe someone gets through to him, but move on
* Cut him now, pay the guaranteed salary now, and move on

Both of them involve moving on. The worst case scenario is what they seem to be doing: keeping him because of the cost, but not moving on with new plans at the position. Everyone on the roster seems to be setting up the excuse, "well, these guys are career backups only, so we might as well play Russell and hope he turns it around!". I'm OK with keeping Russell because you can't escape the financial part of it, and hoping he develops - but I don't like keeping him and not working on a real "Plan A" for the position.

But here in reality, drafting Clausen would most likely just be setting up the poor kid for epic failure.

What, the Raiders' canning someone AND paying them afterwards? That's crazy talk.

Edit: And if *Legion*'s watching the NFL Network right now, he's probably about to puke.

I'm in the office in the back doing work. I'm taking work off a half-hour early to watch the draft. NFL Network's on in the living room but I don't know what's on. Is it Tebow? Is someone predicting Jacksonville to take Tebow??

I better get my camera ready.

They're streaming NFLN live on NFL.com right now...

Sam Bradford to St. Louis to the surprise of...no one, really.

I don't get the booing. What's the point, really?

Wooo! I've never been so excited to see a player drafted by another team! I had horrible nightmares the Rams would take Suh and the Bucs were going to be hosed.

Suh to the Lions. Oops.

Excellent. The chances of Okung sliding to #6 are much better now that the Lions have elected to leave Stafford without blocking. Also, what are the Bucs waiting for? It should take about 5 seconds to hand in McCoy's name.

Heh. I'm guessing they couldn't find a hat big enough for Suh.

*edit* Nevermind, looks like they found one. No surprises in the draft so far... the draft should get interesting now with Washington on the clock.

Sweet, looks like the Skins are taking Williams... come on, Kansas City, trade down or pick Berry!

And boom goes *Legion*'s dynamite.

I'd be surprised of the Chiefs pass on Okung.

Wow, Berry.

I like what I'm seeing! Eric Berry on the phone! Now it's up to Carroll to make the right decision (or trade down, that's fine with me too)

Hey, Maybe he'll make it to the Eagles!!!

...what? Why are you all looking at me like that?

Edit: I wish I had a view into Legion's head, just to see all the picks below the current one change in a flurry of mock drafts after a pick changes from what he thought. In my head, I see and hear the flipping of those old style rotary displays like used to be at the train stations, the ones that would go all clickity every time there was an update.

If the Seahawks pass on Okung after passing on Monroe last year, they deserve to have their QB get killed.

Anything other than a trade down would be an absolute disgrace.

Any thoughts on what Williams will do for the skins?

This is the huggiest and/or weepiest first round in the history of the NFL draft.

Have a lot of people second-guessing them, but then again they already have plenty of that.

It's going to come down to coaching. I'm assuming that Shanny will be putting in the classic 'Denver run game' zone blocking scheme, so it will come down to how well Williams fits into that.

Raider pick time... time to get the popcorn!

Oakland's up next! I'm so excited!!!! Tim Tebow!!!

McClain? Really?

Really?
