If you're like me and get around that Gamestop frequently enough, you can put down the 5 bucks and cancel it later. Seems people don't like to, though.
I was actually referring to people being against going into Gamestop often enough to make and\or cancel a Preorder. The digital revolution has spoiled us all. When I was 15 I woulda given blood for a FFIX demo.
I got the demo with no hassle. I like it, I'm gonna pick the game up when it comes out (and I have some disposible income.)
I'm assuming the game is more fun with other people? I liked the switch axe but it seemed a little too slow to be useful solo.

The SA is actually one of the faster weapons, definitely faster than the Great Sword and Hammer. I've beaten both bosses in the demo with it without being hit, so it's most just a matter of learning when monsters are open for attack, and which attacks fit into which opening.
I've never played with others, but that's the main draw of the game. I have a blast solo, I can only imagine with a full group of four it'll be amazing.
Yeah after playing with some of the other weapons, I noticed it isn't as slow as I had originally thought.
I think most of my troubles were due to the fact that I was still learning how to play the game. I'll have to go back to it at some point.
I'm impressed at how long I've been playing one demo. This game is right up my alley. Although, I'm stuck playing with the wiimote and nunchuck, so I can't wait to get the game and use a real controller.
I meant to say "beat both bosses without needing to heal with the SA", not without being hit. While I'd love to claim that, it isn't true, and if it were it'd sound arrogant as hell the way I said it.
I went ahead and got Wii Speak just in case there are enough of us that have it. I missed out on Gamestop's pre-order bundle, so what's the best deal right now, online or retail? I know both Amazon and Walmart offer $10 credit.
I don't know about Walmart, but Amazon is still selling the bundle. I have a wii speak too.
Also, IGN's review is up, scored it an 8.8. Reviewer seems somewhat familiar with the series.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/108/1083... - there's a video review too, I'll check it out when I get off.
Did anyone sign up for a hunter's license on capcom's MH site? I enter my capcom-unity login info and it gets stuck loading forever.
The site wouldn't load my account either, but the account bar at the top did have my account already logged in.
Next week! Woot!
I'm new to the Monster Hunter franchise. I did pick up the PSP title (I believe Unite) and play a few hours on a friend's system. I'm extremely excited to play this and dust off the Wii. Hope to see many GWJers online. We'll have to have a small community thread so we can add friends and have some group runs.
I figured this would be the meetup thread, as there's probably no more than 15 of us that'll be playing. I'm debating whether or not I want to get online the first day or build something of a character beforehand.
My procrastination serves me well in my life yet again. Amazon and Walmart have stopped taking pre-orders for the bundle. I'll have to get it from another site asap, or gamble that my Walmart will carry the bundle. Actually, taxes make it more expensive than shipping. f*cking government.
It's the sort of grind game I need to round out my gaming-scape. But eh, I can't afford another system. The pain!
Ok, so will the game have its own sort of friends-list thing so we can see who else in our group is online when we go looking to form a party, or are we going to always have to schedule in advance here? Just curious.
Looking forward to some full party action on this soon.
I'm torn between getting this game or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with my money this week.
Decisions, Decisions...

From the IGN review:
"The game doesn't require Wii Friend Codes or anything like that to get into a party with others. It's an entirely self-contained system that lets you mingle in public spaces, meet other hunters looking for quests, communicate via Wii Speak, emotes, and text messages, and compile a friends list that lets you monitor others' online status and warp directly to them if you're trying to get a game going. It's still best to try and get a group of friends together to tackle challenges since you can be sure they'll be respectful and behave appropriately, but it's also possible to join up with random groups if you don't know anyone else playing."
Personally, if the game is what I hope it is, I'll be online quite often.
Hot diggity!
Best buy still has the $10 In-Store gift card offer if you buy just the game. And you get the giftcard in the store so you can use it right away and get the Wii-Speak of Classic Controller Pro if you need either.
What? A reasonable online system on the Wii? I'll be damned.
I've also read that there'll be different online quests available every... week? I think? That rotate on a set cycle. Including one quest that's available only one day a week, which pits players in a big vehicle against a HUGE monster. :)
That's the mine-able guy I mentioned.
One thing I'm concerned about is a concern I hold for every loot-fest style game, that the goal will pretty much be the same for each person. I don't want to be hanging out with my pimp-geared pals and we're all wearing the exact same armor.

It's been happening since Madden 08, back in 2007.
In Monster Hunter, the top-tier armors have their own associated skill benefits and drawbacks, and while certain skills are useful for everyone, others are more useful for certain styles of play and weapons. They also often have resistances that are better against some monsters than others. I personally tend to mix and match pieces to get the positive skills I want while preventing the negative skills from kicking in. In other words, armor is not a linear progression to "the best."
I was much too lazy to write that myself, so thanks!
I stopped playing somewhere in the 3 star missions. I had farmed Yian Kut-Ku near 20 times to get its full armor set. According to FAQS it was one of the best starting sets and I liked the Kut-Ku fight in general.
Goodbye months in the future. I will hardly know ye.
I'm debating whether or not I want to get online the first day or build something of a character beforehand.
I've been considering that too, being a newbie to the series and the fact that reviews are saying you can easily get 150 to 300 hours out of this title. Either way, I actually am really excited about this release. It might fulfill my jealousy and yearning for next-gen play mechanics on the Wii, as it is the only console I own.
Online co-op, voice chat, updated new online content?!? On the Wii? It's like with this game I almost feel like I am buying a new system! DOH!
If the weekly content rotation pans out, I'd be really happy. I've been disappointed with most post-release dlc on the 360 (MW1, Too Human, Mass Effect...I'm looking at you).
If you've been watching the ridiculous yet somehow charming Ironbeard videos, you might be interested in this (made me laugh pretty hard starting around 1:00)
