Guess I should get around to playing GoW2 now.

Are we sure this was the announcement to be made on Jimmy Fallon? It seems like somewhat of a waste. It's nice to have a date attached to Gears of War 3, but the existence of the game should come as no surprise to anyone. I wish their projected release was sooner. I don't want to wait a year to chainsaw some more locust.

I love Gears of War, but seriously, a year away! For the past few years Microsoft has been good (not perfect) about keeping new game announcements within a closer window to release.

It looks like some of the early rumors are colorful jungle levels and mech suits.

Is anyone surprised?

I'm not. But I'm still pumped.

I'm glad they are taking their time on this one. Maybe the netcode won't be a flaming pile of sh*t.

If there is indeed a mech suit, I'm imagining a horrifying multiplayer scenario along the lines of Halo 3's Juggernaut game type.

OMG HOST HAS MECH

/QUIT

After reading the last book (set after Gears 2) I think there will definately be jungle levels.

It was actually a pretty good game. Much better than the first - really epic(not being clever, the adjective is appropriate).

This is the single reason I'm not nearly as excited about this as I would be otherwise.

No doubt. After a month or two of Gears 2, I decided to get drunk by myself on Friday nights and scream at my wife's host advantage. There's less people than a 5v5 Gears match, but the overall experience is a less buggy.

After seeing this, I immediately thought of Lost Planet 2.

I feel the same way.

I agree but I still am excited and can't wait to pick it up day one.

Maybe they'll finally comment out that netcode line that reads "If Host=InigoMantoya then set InstaKillAllOthers = TRUE"

Cliffy B's appearance on Jimmy Fallon's late show got bumped to Monday night, but apparently no one told the Xbox Live dashboard guy

It's all Justin Bieber's fault. In fact, most things these days are.

Exactly what I thought, especially since Dom & Marcus were featured in the last LP2 preview.

Well, some leaked info stated that a GoW 3 announcement would be made on April 8th:

Of course, this was before Dude Huge was even announced as a guest on the JF show, and obviously before he got bumped to Monday by everyone's favorite Canadian lesbian.

Are we sure this was the announcement? No, but all the evidence seems to suggest so.

Why not until April of 2011? Well, Halo: Reach is pretty much the reason. M$ doesn't want their two biggest franchises competing for sales during the holiday crunch, and ME2 effectively proved that you can release a AAA title in the post-holiday slump and still come out gold.

Aw, don't be so hard on her.

I agree, the number one thing I hope they improve is the netcode. Game wise, I hope we get a much more fleshed out and polished horde mode. I sunk a lot of time into horde mode because it was just so damn fun and since Gears 2 was released we've seen a lot of games include a horde-mode clone (Uncharted 2, Halo 3:ODST, CoD:WaW to name a few) and while those were all fun as well it seems like there's much more potential to that game type.

I'll tell you what has me worried though is talk of underwater levels. Does anyone enjoy underwater levels? Anyone?

I'm jazzed about the announcement. Gears 2 is the single biggest reason I actually own a 360 after all these years, and this time I'll actually be able to play a new Gears title when it's released!

I've still never set foot into a Gears multiplayer match, so I lack the jaded cynicism of those folks abused by poor net code.

I am pretty excited about this. I really liked Gears 2 after only kind of liking Gears 1 so hopefully this continues that trend. Maybe I will actually play multiplayer on this. I was too late in the game on 2 to get into the multiplayer.

TMNT on the NES had a pretty good, frustration-free underwater level. /sarcasm

I know one thing that would make me play Gears 3, but that's likely not going to happen.

People still play Gears 2. There's a thread. Coincidentally, tonight's the night!

The ones in Donkey Kong Country weren't too bad. Oh, and Bubble Man's level in Megaman 2 was a breeze, but only because I knew it like the back of my hand. Other than that... bleh.

Just how is Marcus supposed to swim with all that crap strapped to him? Any COG would sink like a rock.

You should hook up with some of the Goodjers and play some Horde -- I'd be game.

And yes, the netcode needs bettering!

I'm excited, but not enough to purchase this time around. I bought Gears 1 and 2, but the multiplayer has never improved, so this time around I think I'll rent. That said, if solid evidence comes that the multiplayer is fixed, I will reconsider this stance.

Oooohhhh....horde rocks!!

I'm on board, rotten netcode and all.

A sh*tload of awesome? More like TEN sh*tloads!

I've seen that. I tend to play tf2 on Fridays but I may need to give this a whirl this week or next.
