Mount&Blade Warband Catch-all

Maybe the occasional execution or two at camp to remind them who's boss.

I've also always thought that renown should influence moral, even if just slightly.

Moral was always a problem that I had towards the end game of the original. I'd have conquered most of the world, be at peace with the only kingdom left, and then I'd have the problem of trying to keep my troops happy because we weren't pillaging and fighting.

I always just threw most of them in a castle/town somewhere and just moseyed around with my top of the line, epic tier, super death warriors from hell until I needed some arrow fodder.

Size of your party is a major downer for your troop morale. So, if you have a castle or a city, you can garrison troops you don't really need. So, train them up, garrison them, get new fresh troops to train. Then, when you're warring, grab your badass troops and go wipe floor with your enemies.

Make sure you have lots of different kinds of food.

I do so enjoy turning their music off and playing stuff like the Last of the Mohicans and Gladiator in the background. Throw some Dead Can Dance into the mix, shuffle and let it roll.

I love this game series. I could play this stuff forever.

Anyone know of mods/tweaks for this yet? ie. cattle follow, companions auto-equip, show village elders in menu list?

I expect most things are the same as they were first time around, I'm just hoping someone's started a list somewhere, maybe you Taleworlds forum regulars can link us?

Right now, nothing like that has popped up.
Now, one of the admins is currently waiting on a new board layout incorporating Warband modding board.

There was 2 or 3 pretty active multiplayer modding groups during beta so it shouldn't be long.

I believe people are still waiting on the module system as well.

They really beefed up the Rhodoks. We all used to mock them, but they can wipe out cavalry like nobody's business. I was the last one standing with four of them left and a well-placed spear sent me tumbling before they beat me to a pulp. Good thing we started the battle, since I ran like hell.

Some well trained HOBOSPEARMEN they must've been.

I'm wondering if they tweaked the damage caused by infantry spears because even though the AI now clusters troops in tight formations I don't recall them being this deadly in the beta.

The new animation for a spear thrust gave them extra momentum in the thrust and thus, more pokey stabby.

Just bought this and so far look like fun. Does anyone know what is the best resource online to be able to understand everything?

Also is there a manual located in the steam version?

Aww, I liked them. I thought that the large shields that even their lowly troops had really helped their survivability, I was happy to train Rhodok prisoners when I got them.

I always thought that the Rhodok castles and towns were the toughest nuts to crack.

Spent all night fighting back a Nord invasion of Swadia, starting with holding off an assault on a castle (usually I don't, but since I was drunk I figured what the hell). After we fell back to inside the castle, I ordered the troops to hold steady and one by one the Nords kept throwing themselves at us and paying the price for it. That took care of about 180 of them and the siege broke, but there were still over six hundred total roaming around in the area. Fortunately, we did have some Swadian reinforcements and thanks to my reliance on cavalry (what infantry I had I lost to the Rhodoks), there was some jolly good Nord thrashing to be had until the wee hours. Unfortunately, since each battle was started by another lord, I didn't get dibs on capturing Nord lords or their troops. Just wish couching the lance wasn't as big of a pain as it is now; my one-handed weapons proficiency is actually higher than my polearm proficiency for once. As an aside, I grabbed a bastard sword because I wanted more reach without sacrificing the ability to use a shield while on horseback or when defending against archers during a siege while putting away the shield when fighting against infantry on foot. Won't be long before my two-handed weapons proficiency gets fairly high.

Another little thing I noticed: loot drops seem to have improved. Instead of all rusty, chipped, or bent items, I'm starting to see balanced and thick ones in the inventory. Be nice if it was something I wanted, though.

Edit: One other thing I noticed after I started using the bastard sword. When your shield is on your back it'll protect you from arrows being shot your way and presumably any other attacks, so you're able to somewhat defend yourself from the front with your weapon while making sure your back is partially covered.

Is there a better overall weapon in the game than the bastard sword? It could just be the way I play, but I've been using the bastard sword since 2006 or so.

Learn the ways of the glorious Warspear.
ALL HAIL THE WARSPEAR, lest it destroy you with nasty stabbings and swift face-smashing.

For fighting on foot, no, and as I said it makes an excellent secondary weapon when on horseback. As for my primary cavalry weapon, I prefer the great lance. Better reach than spears or the other types of lances, which you'll need now that the AI keeps the troops clustered together. Best way to use it is to attack at an angle: have the horse heading about 20 degrees away from the target and point your lance right at the enemy's gut. Definitely reduces your chance of getting trapped by a hoard of infantry.

I've always been about the Bardiche and whittling away the edges of the infantry "mass". Though recently I had the chance to try the large two handed saber and it was a great calvary weapon. I also like the Bardiche for sieges...good reach before jumping into the knot of defenders.

For fighting on foot, no,

I repeat, Warspear.
Learn it, love it.

The new patch brought back old couching!

Edit: I am become death, destroyer of Nords.

So skimming a bit, but are people actually playing multiplayer?

Filthy skimmer, yes they are. It's a big game when a 64-person server fills up.

Ah, as it is written in the Bhagavad Ghita

Well that's enough to get me to make a cavalry general. I've been slumming it with the foot soldiers for too long. I'll set Torbjorn Axebiter aside for another day.

I've been getting quite attached to the long variants of axes and maces for two handed carnage at a decent distance. Weapon reach 130+, 56 damage + bonus against shields, high athletics and kiting means effective infantry soldier.

I am really intruiged with some of the new melee weapons they have added. I am traditionally a bow and arrow guy, but I like the idea of a long mace that can smash through blocks, especially with the new shield blocking mechanics. I hate it. I am sick of arrow to a guys left side getting blocked by a shield hanging limp at his right side. I want to smash that shield and get a brief glimpse of the horror before I also smash that face.

Has the reverted couch changed the computer's couching ability? I don't remember ever once being hit in old M&B, but I recieved a rude surprise yesterday when I went from full health to on the ground because I ignored a horseman on my right...

Still not a massive fan of the couching, so my latest character Quixano is mainly using his War Cleaver (which looks brutal) to mow down foes. This is after finding out the polearm version of the great axe only thrusts when used on horseback, making it pretty useless.

I've found a few placeholders in relation to quests whih are kind of annoying, this IS meant to be a retail release version, but my love of the franchise overrides any minor gripes.

If you read my post 8 above yours, you'd see that I successfully applied old tweaks to Warband. I have no reason to believe the rest of them would not work (that are configuration file mods).

The two entries in a changelog that catch the eye:

- Added option to set couched-lance control to manual/automatic (as Rat Boy mentioned)
- Fixed bug that caused the player lose his fiefs when he switched to another kingdom.

--Edit--

I just found an issue with hacking the game. Steam apparently like to overwrite your files. And somehow the information about the configuration files is stored into your save game. That means that I now have to redo at least one of the hacks I did to my files, if not all of them.

Word of warning: the morale's been tweaked such that there's an additional modifier based on your relations with factions. For example, you recruited a bunch of Khergits, but the Khergit Khanate has about a -50 relation with you. Thus your Khergit's morale will be lower than everyone else and that'll lower your overall morale as well.

I've found a great way (I think slightly broken) to get honour, faction respect and big boosts with certain lords.

Go to any town, talk to prison guard, if there is a prisoner there, bust him out. fight a few guards (easier than getting out of a town while in disguise since you get your own equipment) and when you get to the gate and tell him he's free to go you get honour, plus 2 with his fation, plus 7 with him and NO penalties with the faction, town, or town's lord that you just orchestrated the Great Escape in.

You can also get this as a quest from lords or ladies to net 1500 denars and plus 7 relation with the quest giver as well.

Ah, Khegits; I love the way your horses just fall over at the slightest tap with my sword. I think I've fought everyone in my current playthrough except the Sarranids, who are probably second in terms of total power in Calradia behind Swadia.

Bought'd and downloading. Going to finish off Dragon Age, then dive into this. I'll wait for a big sale on Awakenings to get back into that. Once I get some more stable internet I'll see you guys online!
