Just Cause 2 Catch-All

Oh man, that is a wonderful mod. I need that mod immediately. My monster truck needs it too.

I finally got over my roadblock by taking the mission slowly and carefully, and by realizing that I didn't need to jump down the giant enemy-filled shaft to complete it. I think the game may have thrown me a bone too as for just that mission my health kept regenerating to full. Instead of going on a kill-crazy rampage with the missile launcher you can get in that mission I saved it and used it to assassinate colonels. Carl Gustav is back!

On the north side of the map I found a very nice airbase. It's small, so not a lot of defenses, and harrier-style jets routinely take off there. It's not too hard to just wait for one and latch on during takeoff. They're very fast and maneuverable. Also in that base is an open hangar, within which is a fighter jet that looks like they just kept gluing wings and tails to an Su-47. I think it's called an Eclipse?

For how awesome it looks it's heavy as hell (there's just BARELY enough space between the hangar and the end of the runway to get it airborne, and even then that's how I took out that SAM site. Oops). Not nearly as maneuverable as the little harrier. It does fire four rockets at once, which is nice if you can figure out how the hell to aim a jet. I've found the crosshairs to be a bit off.

Bought this yesterday and I'm having a ton of fun with it. My gaming took a hard right into serious town for a while there. 45 hours of Mass Effect 2, 41 hours of Dragon Age, 40 hours of Battlefield Bad Company 2 over the last 5 months. Yesterday I picked up Just Cause 2, blew stuff up and used the grappling hook for about an hour and turned it off happy.

Well, those are the Stronghold missions. I really wish they had mixed the formula up on those.

Unfortunately those are not limited to only strong hold missions.

Spoiler:

I had one where I to meet Mr. Uber-Hacker on a roof top, kill three dudes that were already there (wtf?) and then kill about 7 helicopters before they could destroy the uber-satellite dish Mr. Hacker was hacking. Pro-tip: Don't stand in front of the dish the helicopters are trying to destroy.

Are you guys saying you don't like escort missions? What's wrong with you all!?

Spoiler:

My protip for that mission is to bring your own helicopter You don't want to bring an assault rifle to a helicopter fight.

Agreed. For some reason, I can jump into this game, clear two missions, two settlements, explore a bit, get in an insane helicopter gunship fight, and turn it off happy in record time. The trick is to not get stuck out in the middle of a swamp. That tends to slow things down. Otherwise, very efficient action.

I hope it has fast travel, though. I get the impression it is unlocked later from the black market menu, but today I literally spent about an hour in a helicopter (cumulative) in various attempts at jumping off mountains. The fact that I can do that an hour into the game makes this game so much better than Just Cause 1.

It does have fast travel. I don't remember exactly when you unlock it, but just do some agency missions and it should pop up. Allows you to extract to any settlement/..place.. that you've been to before.

That's so awesome. I need to do those missions so I can spend the rest of my time with the game base jumping.

I got a weird glitch today. I fast-traveled to an airfield and it's like the game didn't realize I was over there. None of the architecture was solid, for me, for the vehicles, for the enemies, for anyone. I could just walk through buildings and walls and stuff. There was a jet sunken into the runway and when I tried to take off it moved like it was going across bumpy ground (since it was). I didn't even get the location revealed on my map.

I saved and reloaded, then went back and everything was fine. It's weird to discover a location that's already 14% complete.

One other thing, the mods posted last page work fine but the black market ones only work on basic items. Pre-order bonuses are still as expensive as ever.

I don't think it's mission based - I haven't done any of the agency missions past the obligatory ones at the start and it unlocked for me ages ago. probably one of the early black market unlocks when you earn enough chaos.

It unlocked for me while I was just wandering around fairly early in the game. It seemed about as random as one of those radio messages.

I'm totally digging this game, was worried I would get hit with the, uhh, 'sandbox fatigue', but the size of the island is really inspiring and and the variety of stuff is a pretty good mix of Crackdown and Red faction Guerrilla. So what guns do you guys upgrade? the more common ones, or the more kickass ones?

I've fully upgraded the assault rifle and the SMG. I feel like I use those guns the most and it seems like SMG ammo is plentiful so I am always carrying it. I've also fully upgraded my C4 and am working on upgrading my frag grenades since they are always in my inventory.

I haven't been able to visit the whale in-game yet, but I was kind of hoping you could grapple it to a helicopter and drop it from a great height a la HHGTTG.

Better bring the big one.

Ok, I don't know if this happened due to the mod this guy is using, but man this is a hilarious physics glitch if not.

Weird, it looked like he was using the XBox version based on the control pop-ups. Does it show those if you plug the XBox controller into a PC?

That was hilarious though. Barely a scratch on the paint and it still drives fine! Could sell used for top dollar.

Can we talk about the story missions?

Spoiler:

Or lack thereof? I thought maybe there would be some big twist that would re-set the playing board, so to speak. And then the credits rolled. 7 missions?! If they didn't make you go unlock each one with chaos, you could finish the game in under 3 hours.

I know that's not the point at all with this series, but now that I have finished the story I'm stuck in Mercenary mode which flashes a big red COMPLETION 32.14% notification every time I blow up the smallest thing. Every, single, time. Is there any way to turn that off on the 360 version? I want to go back and explore, but that is seriously grating.

Yeah, it's really great the way it is handled. I primarily use the Xbox controller on the PC, but from time to time I'll grab the mouse for precision aiming. It then automatically switches to PC prompts, but as soon as you pick the controller back up, it goes back to controller prompts.

Hmm...in that case I guess i'll hold off on finishing the story missions for the moment until I do some more side stuff (at 45% so far with 3 or 4 story missions completed).

I took a chopper over to it and tried tethering, but the cable just snapped. Perhaps if I installed the stronger cable mod it might work, but I doubt it. Looks like the whale is built as a building-type object, not a movable object

(I was going to try to save him, by the way, not drop him from the edge of space )

Story Mission 6 is the point of no return, so don't start it unless you plan on completing the game. I don't really mind mercenary mode though.

You know you've been playing too much Just Cause 2 when...

-You walk down your street and instinctively scan the rooftops for good grapple points.

-On picking up the stapler at work, you mutter "That'll come in handy.."

-You shred a document and immediately wonder how many chaos points it's worth.

-The left bumper on your 360 controller jams after one too many frantic grapple escape attempts.

-You finally crawl into bed at 3AM, still plotting how to blow just one more water tower to smithereens.

-Your sleep is disturbed by an oddly provocative dream involving Bolo Santozeee, Baby Panay, and giant balloons shaped like breasts.

just played a little world of warcraft...brain kept reaching for the grapple trigger

...and here I am instead, running around on the ground like a sucker.
