Non-game Android Apps Recommendations Catch-All

How about a good RSS reader?

Forget Google Reader, why don't they have a native 1st party app on their platform?. I'm not giving my login info to some 3rd party dev.

I just bookmarked the google reader mobile site.

Does rooting void the warranty?

Yes, it does. I've also been lead to believe that it marks the phone internally, so if you were able to un-root it, you'd still have evidence of a voided warranty. Baggachipz might be able to claraify.

I certainly wouldn't be able to clarify. However, you can return to the default ROM and... judging from your average VZW store employee, I doubt they'd be sophisticated enough to know that you did so. It's not like a moisture sensor. Don't take my word for it, though.

Given that this thread is non-game-related, is there a complementary thread for Android gaming? I know there are a few games out there, and it'd be great to hear people's thoughts on them.

Zilch is a fun dice based game, there is a free version give it a shot!

If you live in Seattle Traffic Jammery is good for checking traffic

Not that I'm aware of. Just the Android Catch-all (which is mainly phone related) and this one.

I'm too worried about bricking the phone, no matter how easy the whole thing is, especially with 2.1 around the corner.

My favorite was RemoteRDP - will have to consider buying this.

Well, got the 2.1 apk from a friend and upgraded. I guess I wasn't following closely but 2.1 does NOT include flash, which is the whole reason I wanted it.

Any such list that doesn't include ConnectBot is broken.

Ohhh live wallpaper for 2.1 is very very cool.

Anything like Awsomenotes for ipod touc? Looking for a really good note taking program.

I like ColorNote (free). It's basically colored post-its (create notes or checklists) that you can stick to your main screen(s). User friendly and quick and easy.

List of all the apps I have installed on my (rooted) milestone now:

Appaware
Astrid
Astro
BBC news
Beautiful Widgets - this alone is worth it to make the iphone-sheeple burn with envy!
Brightkite
Seesmic - Only because the twitter oauth page is barfing when I try to use touiteur premium
Compass
Evernote
Google Finance - Good Stock market apps are remarkably hard to find on Android
Foursquare
FoxyRing
fring
Gmail Unread count
Greed Pro
Handcent SMS + Font Packs - It's good. I just wish it didn't look so much like an iphone knockoff.
K-9 Mail
Layar
Locale + K-9/AllVolumes/Dock/Notify/Toast Plugins
Mabilo Ringtones
Mabilo wallpaper
MarketEnabler - Rooted phones only
Mototorch LED
Tricorder - Strictly for geek entertainment value
Pure calendar widget
Quote Pro - Stock market app (good for Indices, nothing else)
Rings extended - works fine on the 2.1 Milestone, despite reports of crashes on the Droid.
SetCPU - Well worth rooting a phone for.
Shazam -
Camera Zoom FX
Terminal emulator - used once to check if the root hack worked.
Touiteur premium - doesn't work for me (yet)
XE Currency

I also have a few Singapore-specific apps that I haven't listed here.

Announced today, Rhapsody will be putting out an Android app. Considering my work environment, they have a great chance of me subscribing.

Man am I glad I posted this list here - had to hard reset my phone* a couple of times yesterday and all the free apps disappeared from my download list. Thankfully I could figure out what was missing from this post

* As it turns out, the problem was with the phone company and not my handset - gah!

Bumping this for the new Incredible owners.

Any recommendations for a drink recipes app?

Anyone have any good battery saving apps/tips? They don't have the Incredible rooted yet so I'd just be talking about normal Market apps.

Gesture Search Bar lets you override the "hold down Search button" action to go to Gesture Search instead of Voice Search. Way more useful for me.

For battery saving stuff, I've been using EStrongs Task Manager. You can add stuff you want to keep running to an ignore list, and then add a widget button that kills everything not on the ignore list with one touch. I haven't used anything else yet.

Also, if anyone is looking for a good RDP client, I found Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client to be very nice... Supports multitouch zooming and everything. Unfortunately, it appears to lack a right-click and a drag function. Or, if it has it, I haven't figured it out yet. Otherwise, great software.

Also, any idea on app backup programs, preferably free?

Juicedefender is supposed to be a good battery saving app.

It doesn't work on the Incredible yet.

I'm also looking for an app or widget that allows easier access to my wireless settings, or at least a way to list wireless networks and connect/disconnect without having to go into the menu. :p

EDIT: Just came across RemoteDroid. Gonna try that out.

Also, pretty basic, but I use the power widget to control what interfaces are up to save power.
