Just Cause 2 Catch-All

Hey, so I didn't know this, but apparently the game is up on Steam now. I am in the process of downloading it now. I need to get as much work as possible finished before the download is complete lest I end up having a totally unproductive day.

I got my 360 copy today I didn't know there was a CE.
Does anyone know what the "get rewarded" means on the registration card?
It's separate from the in-game item code.

edit: found that the code is for a silly point system for buying Sq. Enix games.

After reading the manual and watching more vids I'm feeling a bit ill and may have to take the rest of the day off from work.

You folks let me know how this game is. It's practically dying to take my money, but I'm still kind of split.

To anyone who may have already played: Does it feel repetitive?

I'm really interested to see how this game sells considering the demo.

The demo is fun but obviously displayed how sandboxy and limited and Mercenaries 2-y it is. It may have made a split between DoubtingThomas types (I'm with you) and people who still crave a fixed Mercenaries 2.

I can't really say exactly why, but the demo for Mercenaries 2 left me completely uninterested in the game, but an hour with the Just Cause 2 demo made me stop playing the demo - because I was completely sold on the game and wanted to wait for the complete experience. Even though they seem very similar, I just found JC2 had a basic visceral fun factor that M2 somehow lacked.

Same here. I was really up for Mercenaries 2 and I fully intended to play the demo to death but, after a couple of tries, I left it and never returned. My interest in the full game completely evaporated. The JC2 demo has the game play that Mercs 1 had and that Mercs 2 lacked.

The Gatling gun helped me take over the harbor (retail), and the mounted guns on the chopper helped me save the casino owner. Granted, the objective was to destroy the choppers, not hijack them! Things blow up nicely, there is tons of room to work in. There are minor graphic weirdness issues towards sunset, and the load screen pops up often, but not hindering gameplay. This, so far, is what I wanted GTA IV or Mercs 2 to be.

Also, putting the camera view above your camera, and then looking down (at the landscape of both land and sea), the detail made the nerd in me smile: random seaweed, coral reefs, levels of clouds, the trees (much better than part one).

The PDA map also looks to be 3D topographical (the mountain on the PDA looked like it was blurring until I looked closer at it, that sumFemale Doggo was dimensional).

I found a floating yacht, called the "Mile High Club". Pretty interesting place. Having a blast so far.

Oh this game is so full of awesome. There is so much to see and do. And by "do" I mean blow up. The island itself is amazingly huge. This is a game that would drive someone with a completionist tendency nuts.

After a few hours I am very impressed. The demo was really just a tiny slice of the game. The game is gorgeous. Several times during my hours with the game I was shocked by what they have pulled off.

What I really like is the game doesn't seem to be holding much back, even early on. I was flying around in a little commuter jet and was trying to see if I could land it with out crashing. Just as I think to attempt that I see a runway, which is nice because I don't think I've seen an actual runway in my previous 2 hours in the game. After a rough but explosion free landing, I learn that I just landed on at a military airport. I get attacked and while running away I find a small tank. I blow a bunch of stuff up, including enemies who fly 20 feet in the air when I shoot them with the tank, until I happen upon a hanger with an amazing fighter jet. I jump in the jet and fly away. Most games like this seem to keep a lot from the player until they progress. Not just cause 2. Who cares that I only have done the basic tutorial missions and maybe one more after that? I can still go anywhere and find any vehicle.

When you said floating yacht, I thought you meant on the ocean, but I just found the Mile High Club, and it is a freaking airship!!

A nightclub suspending by a giant pair of inflatable tits. I swear the people working on this game are completely out of their minds in the best possible way.

One warning: the voice acting in this game is atrocious. It sounds like they got Janet from Accounting to read some of the lines.

Bolo Santosi doesn't like your attitude.

I've got to stop reading this thread. I would've liked to find that airship on my own.

I've played over 6 hours and it says I'm 10% done.
I've generally stuck to missions thus far, but I'm looking forward to some free roam.
The one time I did go to a random military base I got shot up pretty bad.

I've had some frustrating moments with the controls & physics but I think I'll learn to mitigate them.
Overall this is probably the MOST AWESOME sandbox game I've ever played.

My copy is on the way :).

I'll keep an eye out for THAT airship. Sounds like it'll be hard to miss.

Some parts of this game are downright beautiful. Piloting a house boat around a small island by the very first set of 3 factions, the sunlight shinning through the water was amazing. It also almost seems like there is a little bit of tilt-shift focus trickery going on. Not sure how they did it, but this thing runs like butter on a medium level system from a few years ago (8800GT, 2.99 ghz dual-core). The pc version even has full rumble support for the 360 controller.

Also, not sure why people elsewhere are complaining about the vehicles, i think they handle great - with a real sense of weight. As for the dialog - going into this expecting the cheesy dialog, much like a b-action-movie, I'm finding it quite hilarious.

In the demo I thought the vehicles had too much weight. They kept snapping my tethers instead of flipping over hilariously when I attached them to a building.

Has anyone seen any hovercrafts yet? I've heard there are some in the game even if you don't get the pre-order bonus one.

I played the demo last night, and it did a good job at getting me interested in the game. I might have to pick it up for my PC, seeing as it played well on yours, b slippy. Mine is almost identical.

I saw that floating way off in the distance and just HAD to check it out. I thought I was close enough and bailed from my chopper, but I must have been just out of range, and couldn't grapple to it. I ended up parachuting down to a heavily defended oil rig, where I almost died about 12 times trying to blow up the AA missile launcher. Finally got the launcher down, stole the oil rig's heli and made it back up to the mile high club.

It was pretty damn cool!

Yeah it really is. I drove a firetruck off a pier and watched it slowly sink - which is really mundane as far as the this game goes, but the water looked really good and I'm swimming around this submerged fire truck and it was kind of a surreal moment. I think if you are one of those gamers that appreciates small details, this game is just chock full of them.

My only problem is my son keeps fighting for the controller. I'm gonna have to play more after he goes to bed!

I've got to stop reading this. I can't afford this game dangit!

Bolo Santosi's actress isn't very good, but the accent isn't bad. It's a bit Filipino, a bit Malay, a bit SIngpore.

One of my favorite moments so far was on a mission where I needed to hijack a limousine. I was high up on a mountain and the limo was down in a canyon below me, so I grab a motorcycle, race off of a ramp of boards at the edge of the canyon soaring into the sky. I then jump off of the bike and freefall through the air, racing down towards the limo below me. When I am about 100 feet above it, I pull my chute, line myself up with the car and then grapple onto its roof. From there, I climb onto the hood of the car, shoot the guard in the passenger seat and then wrestle with the driver, throwing him out of the car. Voila!

Bolo Santosi's actress is pretty good, considering she's tied to a chair with Bolo Santosi holding her hand in a "gun" gesture to her head.

Also, Bolo Santosi can shoot bullets from her finger.

Rico sounds like Triumph the insult comic dog.

Favorite moments of the evening: blowing up a ~40ft wide satellite dish and watching it roll down the side of a mountain to land on top of and destroy a military jeep.

And

Spoiler:

Jumping out of a jet to grapple onto the side of a space-bound rocket. Also, crashing my jet into said rocket, destroying it.

I think I saw something in a video that looked a lot like the place where Bond fights Alec at the end of Goldeneye. Is that in the game or did I see wrong?

It's in the game.

Wow this game is not only a blast to play it also has the best looking open world I've ever seen. This game is seriously gorgeous when cranked all the way up. Crysis may have had more bells and whistles but lacked the epicness of JC2.

When you are on top of a skyscraper looking around and you see those mountains off in a distance...you know the mountains that are part of the skybox in pretty much every single game ever made...then you realize that you can copter over there and skydive down onto a snow-capped summit the scale really hits you.

The scale also hits you when you're in the middle of the ocean in a sailboat that doesn't go very fast and you keep looking at the map and realize that it will take you 10 minutes to pilot this boat to dry land.

The islands are like a character in this game The best character by far. Skip the cutscenes, ignore the side quests, but stick around for the ambiance. At one point in my sailboat I just sat back in my chair with a drink watching the sunset glint across the horizon and sipped a beer. It was an amazing, immersive, dare I say zen moment.

This game is epic in its beauty. The only game I can think of that even comes close to JC2's environment is Oblivion and thats started to get a touch dated compared to JC2.

If you are an asthete you owe it to yourself to get this game. I'm frankly amazed that something so awe inspiring can run on my pc without chugging. I've got a 4850, 8 gigs ram, q9300 quad core so i have a solid computer but certainly not top of the line and I play with all setting maxed out and get a consistent 30fps. I did turn v-synch off to imrpove my fps and I haven't noticed screen tearing being an issue.

So am I just the king of hyperbole or is this one of the most beautiful looking environments ever made? If not, what the hell beats it?

PS: skip all the cutscenes. Trust me on this. The beauty does not extend to generic character models or voice acting. The president of the island sounds like Kim Jong in Team America World Police. BEHOWD DA POWAH OF AREC BARDWIN!
