GWJ Chess Club/Tourno?

My excuse is that I have at least five other games going at the same time!

If you could please choose mine to be the one in which you blunder badly, maybe more than once, that would be dandy.

Hello

I just signed up a chess.com and sent a group invite to play chess with you guys.

Sorry, just used my blunder against Prozac! Takes a while for it to recharge... hopefully.

Yeah you got forked good baby

I wish my blunder special attack had a long cooldown period.

I just finished what was most definitely the best endgame of my entire life. Played against the top guy in my bracket. Ratings were (me) 1500 vs. (him) 1680, at the time. Almost blew it in the opening, played a strong midgame to be up a couple of pawns, then blundered away a bishop with board blindness before playing what was probably an almost theoretically perfect 30-move endgame against someone who knew what he was doing. It's here, if anyone's interested. You probably aren't, but you never know.

Hey chess-guys,

if you happen to own an iPhone/iPod touch, I am giving away promo codes for a chess comic with chess puzzles. Have a look here

if you like it or want to try it, let me know. I love chess, and I want to share my little game... it will be updated with new free episodes once a week (that's the plan)

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showth...

/never mind the contest. just PM me and I will give away some codes... LITE version is out soon.

I think the biggest problem you might have is with people making out what each piece is. It might be a matter of just getting use to the style but if might prevent people from even trying your game.

We going to do another tourney anytime soon? Or would anyone like to get a one off game in?

true, I will have the board setup with all pieces in the first episode... thanks!

I'm happy to play pick up matches.

Me too.
I guess maybe a new tourney when this one's over? We're many more now, it would be fun!

I'm pretty sure that free members can only be in one tourney, and that only a paid member can start a tourney, but I'm happy to go into another once I'm knocked out of this one.

This one should be done in by the end of the year or early next year. I will be up for a new one after this one.

I think anyone can start a tourney if they have a low enough timeout rate (under 10%). But you're probably right about the one-tournament-at-a-time rule... oh well, guess we'll just have to wait and play one-off games in the meantime!

I dunno, I'm in that other tourney too right now. Granted, I'm statistically eliminated from advancing in our current tourney, but my homepage still says that I'm in both tourneys at the same time. So I'm not sure how that rule is enforced. It may only be for "official" tourneys.

I'm open for games. Sadly I missed out on the tournament. I'm sawu on chess.com

Just a heads up...I had to get a paid account in order to start the tourney. It'll expire on April 1st. I assume it'll let the tourny finish without having to stay a member, but I'm unsure. Good to see everyone so interested though!

I am a paid member, so I can start tournaments if needed.

Ok, you guys are _not_ going to believe this, but:

il dottore and I have actually finished a game!

Result: Queen sacrifice for back rank mate for the fail.

Oh, I could have dragged out the pain for at least another week, but to be honest the game virtually ended at Turn 17 when I said, "Hey, dude, would you randomly like this knight for no good reason at all?"

I challenged a few random folks, up for anyone else who wants a game.

Isn't it amazing?! Thanks for not dragging it out, it's taken long enough as it is

Oh, and the answer was "Are you messing with my mind? Is this a mind-blowing mate-in-three strategy? Whatever, I'll take it anyway!" Guess I won't be as lucky next time around...

I started a book recommendation thread over on the group forum. Please post your thoughts and suggestions.

It looks like the chess tournament has (finally) advanced to the next round. It looks like only 1 person from each bracket advanced:
me, albertoluigi and Liquidmantis.

Yeah, we're on!!!
Sorry it took me so long to finish my games, Prozac kept me busy, then lost on timeout (so yes, you could have been waiting even longer!).
Having a newborn baby didn't help my speed, if it's any excuse

my name is Blunder, James Blunder ...

Son of a Female Doggo. The tourney took so long between phases I've fallen out of habit of checking on games. I just time forfeited to Don. It's probably not rational to be as pissed as I am; I'd forgotten how strong my competitive streak is even when it's gone unnurtured for so long.

[Edit] So the email settings have this caveat mentioned: "(In most cases, you will only receive 1 email per login.)" Which was known, but there's no option to remove that or have a shot-clock running out message sent either. Screw you, chess.com.

Guess you could say that's my fault then
Sorry.....

Oh. I wondered about that.
I got an email when the game ended, but haven't been getting emails when it's my turn. I just check the site once a day or so and see if it's my turn.

Aaaand it's over!!! Final standings here.
Me and DonD shared a first place, Liquidmantis got in third. Thanks everybody for some really good games, hope we can put together another tournament soon! Maybe with 2 days/move this time...
