Elemental: War of Magic - Catch All

It's been a few weeks since I popped into the game. Time for another look, I guess. Funny, even in the current state, this game has "it".

Good. That's the whole point, right?

I am really looking forward to playing this.

I am avoiding the beta so I can experience it fully when it finishes.

There have been quite a few more Elemental journals added since my last update. For those who are following the game, they are quite informative and the artwork being showed off is really beautiful.

Alrighty folks, for those of you in the beta, beta 1G should be arriving sometime today.

Here is the list of updates:

Apparently Brad Wardell is writing a book about Elemental

Weird. Not something I expected to hear.

When is this supposed to release?

I bought it at last years PAX sight unseen. Yeah, I'm a sucker.

Estimated release date is September 2010 if I remember. To me that seems awful soon given the comments on the beta being more of an alpha.

The game looks like great fun though. I pre-ordered and will gladly help them work out the bugs on my PC setup so I'm good to go for launch.

I still can't install the stupid thing. It complains about an XML file being missing.

Try resetting the data in the Impulse preferences window.

The difference between the last build and the current one is massive. September may be a little soon, but depending on how far along the stuff not in beta is, I could see a late 2010 release for this.

Well, I will be dipped, Island Dog. That worked!

It's crazy, like the guy has inside information or something!

LOL

Also, yesterday new pre-orders were let in to the beta so if you have been waiting, you should be able to download via Impulse now.

Elemental: Limited Edition also announced - http://forums.elementalgame.com/377402

Nice, we'll be able to upgrade if we want to.

Ooh, dang. I am way interested in the dynasty stuff.

Is there a big list of the races in the game anywhere?

I'm now the proud (and simultaneously lightly embarrassed) owner of a Limited Edition pre-order.
I kicked the beta around a bit this weekend but have not really gotten far enough to know what is going on yet. I've played just about every turn based fantasy game ever so I am sure I can figure this one out, but it will take some time since there is no real direction at this point. So far I managed to figure out how to move, drop cities and recruit peasants. I am pretty much clueless as to how economics and magic spells work and have no concept all of the scale of the worlds. I did get inappropriately excited when I saw the research screen so I know I will keep plugging away. There is certainly still a lot of work to be done but I figure having pre-paid so far in advance will mean that it will be a nice surprise to find the game sitting in my mailbox one day.

From the update log:

Because The Empire isn’t enabled, you cannot currently breed your children to Trogs and Urxen and end up with hideous looking children. We plan to allow this however in the final version the game despite the horror.

Love these guys. I so want to play this game right now. Not joining the beta is taking all my strength.

I am sad that I somehow missed this recent window to get into the beta. I thought I was properly keeping an eye on it.

If I preorder now, will I be let into beta at the next window or do I have to do the preorder inside the window?

I too am interested in the answer to this question Can someone demystify the pre-order beta entry details for skimmers like me?

I dunno... We'd probably need someone on the inside to answer that question. Maybe like a, an animal, that... lives on an island... Or something... How likely is *that*?

We could name him Archipelago Cat!

I lol'ed

Oh I thought it was a more of a promotional thing. 'Pre-order and yer in' style.

The main page says beta access is closed but the 0.295 build downloaded as soon as I pre-ordered. Maybe because I went for the limited edition, I don't know.

That islet gopher fellow would have to chime in.

Edit: On a subjective basis, you're not missing out on *that* much without the beta. There is a lot (a LOT) that is not yet implemented.

That's a bit scary if they're planning on a September release.

From what I understand (partly from an interview with Brad Wardell that I heard) a lot of stuff is not in the beta builds because Stardock is looking to test individual features rather than a complete build. So, for example, the full graphics engine might exist but the beta is limited to the "cloth map" view to keep players as focused on the mechanics as possible. They could be playing a smoke and mirrors game there but I kind of doubt it.

In Wardell's words they wanted to make sure there was as little fun as possible in the beta so players would focus on mechanics that need fleshing out rather than actually play the game.

Preordered the LE sight unseen. Here's to you, Stardock.

So did you get beta access or not?
