Blur Catch-All

Pages

This is sounding like a nice multiplayer title, a slicked up Mario Kart from the sounds of it. Who's in the beta, and who wants to play some Blur tonight?

I just got my beta code for this in an email about 3 minutes ago. I'm hoping this one is arcade-like enough that the controller is as good an option as the wheel.

Looks fun, reminds me a lot of Dethkarz. I may get it if it comes out on the PC, not sure if it will be fun for more than a few hours, though.

I've got a code, but I'm not sure I care so much about it now, so free to the first one to type it on their console:
Beta: BT8XK-48836-2RHGC-7P74F-6V6BQ (redeem in marketplace)
48h Free gold: BKDQY-BWMGJ-KW466-RCWTX-QPF3G

Got my code. If I can pull myself away from BC2, I might play some tonight.

Just played it for a bit. Meh.

I think it would probably be a lot of fun playing with people you know, but nothing jumped out at me like Burnout Paradise.

Maybe more playing will make it better. I kept getting confused at what the power ups did except shield and repair... A couple of times I was in the top 2 or 3 slots coming up to the end only to get hit with something and end up finish next to last or so Need to work on strategy and figuring out the blocking.

I got my beta code. I might hop on tonight before playing some BFBC2.

I'm playing now. It's like Need for Speed + Mario Kart.

Thanks Scratched! I yoinked the beta code.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to wrap my feeble mind around how to steer with a controller. It's just a wall slamming fiasco every time I try a game like this, lol.

I'm not going to have time to play it either. Someone can have my codes, just post when you've used them.

I grabbed the beta code, thanks for posting it! Does this multi-player beta have any sore of split-screen support?

Geez, i started the thread and i haven't even had time to download it. Will try to correct that tonight.

I got it downloaded, but despite the game telling me there were ~800 people online and playing it repeatedly failed to actually place me into a game. I figured I'd give it a day to work out some of the inevitable first day of beta issues and try again.

A mate of mine is working on this. The fight is basically going to be between Blur and Split/Second; it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

I just got an email with more Blur beta codes to hand out to friends, so I'll just post them here. First come, first served!

Thx.

Played the demo. It played much better tham I suspected. Don't know if I will pick it up but it definitely exceeded my expectations with the demo.

I played about an hour of the demo. The gameplay was great, with a really slick look and feel to it, but I'm not sold on the peripheral components of it. The matchmaking doesn't quite seem to be working right - in the playlist that can support up to twenty people, I never got into a game with more than six. Also, I'm getting kind of bored of these RPG progression systems, and I'm not sure it's a good match for a racing game.

It was working a lot better when Beta was private. I tried to play once Beta went public and I was having hard time just getting into the games or constantly getting disconnected from the server.

That said, I actually like the game a lot more than I thought I was going to. Release timing is weird though... Split/Second and Blur coming out a week from each other. Sigh...

I played for about 2 hours last night. Must have been around 12:00am...and I didn't have too much difficulty getting into games. Stayed in a party of 18 for 4 games and then moved down to the smaller group after that one fell apart. Gotta say, I love the slick look and the powers are fun too. And it's really satisfying to effectively dodge those homing "shunt" attacks either with shooting something behind you OR good old fashioned evasive driving. I'm looking forward to playing it again tonight so I can get better at drifting...

I hate demos like this. Making me give them money...XD

I'm almost at the level cap for the beta. What surprised me is that you unlock more game modes as you level up! I'm in love with the demolition derby game mode it's wild!

I had no idea that anyone could download and play the beta on the Xbox! I had only seen the codes that (I assume?) PC players had to have.

Anyone have any tips for cornering? The handling seems a little more realistic than Burnout, which is the racing game that I'm most familiar with (well, apart from Mario Kart).

It really varies depending on the handling class for each car. For instance I just got the Corvette and I've given up all hope drifting with it so I use the standard brake to slow down some before a clean turn.

What I didn't realize until now is you can use the Speed Booster power BACKWARDS by pulling back on the stick. That's real handy when doing evasive maneuvers in the "battle mode."

I played for awhile last night on the 360, and it really was a lot of fun. Slicked up version of Mario Kart is dead on. I found it to be a lot more fun than the Sega clone.

I made it all the way to Level 6 in 13 races. The demo is capped at Level 15, but I'm not sure if that is the cap for the game. But it sure feels like it is fairly asy to level up, and that the level up mode is more of just a training device. Rather than give you every toy up front, you get a chance to learn about them as you play.

I think it is a sure buy for me, but I am not positive it is a day one purchase. It may wait for the first sale. At $30-$40, I think it will a nice game to keep on hand. It will be a fun party type game, but not one that will have a loyal following of regular players.

Played another couple hours. As usual, having some friends along for the ride makes it much more fun. We got in to a full 20-person Supercar room, and it was absolute chaos, in the best possible way. With that many people, and in the fast, flimsy cars, you're almost constantly engaging with other players, as opposed to some of the smaller, slower game-modes where it's not unusual to lose contact with the field for a minute or more.

Based on the info in demo, the final Lv. Cap will be 50.

I DL'd this demo on a whim and was really surprised at how good it feels. I was expecting the mix of realistic cars with totally unrealistic weapons to be silly, but it felt just right

After several nights of playing, I am sold. Although I prefer racing sims, there is a place in my game time for these great arcade titles. The hook for me on Blur is the sheer joy of getting a first place finish after multiple attempts. It truly feels like an accomplishment. They nailed the feeling that my skills and decisions contribute to my victory and it is not just luck. For example, dodging a shunt feels just challenging enough...difficult but possible while maintaining a good race line. It requires you to play a tactical, if not somewhat strategic game if you want to do well...opposed to Burnout which is fun but feels more like cleverly controlled chaos. I am apprehensive about the simultaneous release for Split/Second and Mod Nations Racers and its effects on development of steady multiplayer community. I do not see this as something that will have a solid player base after 3-4 months. Hell, even Forza 3 is already a little iffy in terms of a consistent community to race with.

I dabbled in the demo/beta, and while it's enjoyable, I'm still leaning towards Split-Second instead based on the quick go I had on it at PAX last year.

I'm not sure I see space for both games in my library/budget.
