Portal 2 Catch-All

What's funnier is reading through the initial post there. It's all about how this guy should get to play before any "noteless dickbags".

No, I think he's calling himself the noteless dickbag there, and saying that he should get to play it first for "riling up all the other dickbags".

Is it Christmas yet? Steam maybe on the Mac. Now Portal 2 announcement :D

I have an important question: How are mac users going to alt-fire with their one button mice? Does cmd-click mean they will all be crouching to fire the other portal, or alt-fire on any other gun.

Apple has been shipping multibutton mice since 2005. In a stupid bit of favoring form over function, they still make mice that look as if they have only one button, but right-clicking works, really.

(I use a Razer Diamondback 3G with my MacBook Pro, myself.)

I don't remember crouch being bound to the Windows Key when I played. But then I re-bind the basic movement keys to something less cramped than WASD, so I might have changed it before I even started playing.

How many Windows gamers use the mouse that came with their computer?

One new detail complicates Valve's carefully implemented continuity - Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after the original game

and

Valve doesn't intend to elaborate on the Half-Life Connection because of tonal differences between games. We are aware however, that Portal 2 takes place well after the events of Half-Life.

So, no Portal crossover in HL2:E3?

I'm guessing this just gives more freedom for HL2:E3 to do what it wants/needs to with the stuff from Portal without it getting messy. The crossover is already there, really. Doesn't look like they're one and the same game though, if that's what you're getting at. Could be interesting though if Ep3 ends up filling some blanks between Portal and P2.

I wonder if Portal 2 will take place on the Borealis.

That is pure gold.

Given that it's a 'full length' game, it could well end up there at some point. I'm pretty excited about the shear number of possibilities this game plus the mythos it inhabits presents.

I was reading that GameInformer article, and one of the new gameplay concepts sounded awfully familiar. So I went and looked up the IGF awards from last year, and sure enough, it's pretty much verbatim the mechanic from this game. Looking up some of the developers on mobygames, it looks like they are now working for Valve as well.

Now I kinda wish I went to Digipen.

I think the black mesa/aperture science/borealis link is just a nice little detail, valve is winking at the audience. The two games are very different in style, as they are now I would be very surprised to see a detailed cross-over where alyx talks to glados, or gordon useing the portal gun. What I expect is a little burnt and broken portal prop in a corner somewhere, or one of the NPCs making a cake/still alive remark.

The borealis has to be important to the plot of episode3 though, but having read the speculated full HL2 plot (it seems that HL2 plus the episodes is what was originally planned for all of HL2) I imagine it'll contain something the combine want to redominate earth, or contain something we use to kick the combine off earth.

Are you some manner of Dracula? Or Frankenstein? Or dependin’ on yer cultural heritage, a Blackula or Latin Frankenstein?

I was crazy excited for Portal before the Orange Box was even revealed, and it still managed to soar beyond my highest expectations. I have no doubt Portal 2 will do the same because I'm not a burnt and blackened husk of a person, emotionally.

Well, at least not when it comes to video games.

That line had me laughing more than I expected to. Then again, all the dialogue there was pretty much great. I'm looking forward to this.

I'm officially pumped.

yes, YES, YESSSSSS!!!

Also, Wheatley sounds great.

You know it'd be awesome... come on, admit it.

That's brilliant
And yes, I do want one.

I keep reading this as Postal 2 and I think why are people talking about that.

Many of my dates wear veils, actually. Then they take them off and I politely ask them to put the veil back on.

I heard there was going to be Portal Deathmatch, too.

I was having a conversation with a buddy about this. The idea of only being able to kill each other by using the portal gun is too delicious to pass up. Imagine dropping Quintin into a vat of lava. Or dropping a turret behind Quintin. Or getting Quintin stuck in an infinite fall where the only escape is to smash himself on the ground.

Like a giant game of "I imagine" from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure!!

Hm, Co-op portal might actually be a decent game to start Sthillary down the path of shooter addict on.

I'm getting a new computer the soul purpose of getting you stuck in an infinite loop.

Don't want to pee on your bonfire, but computers don't have souls.

I'm also not sure that a soul is required to mess with Q-Stone, anyway.
