XBLA Catch-Much: Farewell to XBLA

Fret Nice looks rather intriguing.

I just wanted to give a BIG thumbs up to Chime. It's very fun and addictive. A great one at 400 pts, and remember $3 of the $5 cost goes to children's charities.

Any opinions on the new ones? I've downloaded Lazy Raiders, but haven't check it out yet.

I'll be trying out Greed Corp today. It looks interesting.

I tried Lazy Raiders and It's a puzzle game but it's fairly enjoyable basically all you do is move the map around your character which causes the character to collect the items and basically go through and try to get the idol.

I would recommend to try the demo, I do enjoy it though.

I took this week's XBLA titles for a spin last night.

Greed Corp is interesting. The demo was enough to sell me on the game, so I bought it. Turn based strategy goodness, with an interesting hook in that you're destroying your own territory to generate resources.

Fret Nice seemed like a fun idea, but the reality of using the guitar's tilt sensor to jump is hideous. Makes for the mushiest of controls that sometimes doesn't work.

Lazy Raiders would have been an instant purchase at 400 points, but they can shove it up their arse for 10 bucks. Feels too much like a free Flash game for me to drop double-digits on it.

I know I'm super late to the party, but I just picked up Trials HD last night after trying the demo for like 5 minutes. It's such a blast to play, and even though I'm not a huge multiplayer gamer and don't even have a Gold account, the leaderboards for this game are one of those key little features that managed to bring the game to a whole new level for me (and, incidentally, Nei is a freakin' god at this game). Anway, if anyone is still playing this, feel free to friend me up so we can compare scores.

Fixed that for ya, based on what I've seen on the TA leaderboard.

I was playing some Trials yesterday for the first time in a long time. Agree re: awesomeness of how they use the leaderboard to spur you ever onward. A lot of people have gotten really good since I last fired up Trials.

I have yet to finish all the hard and expert tracks, although I posted some decent medium times last night. Friend me up if you want (I also have a delightful custom track to share, entitled "Motherboy").

Please tell me your track incorporates this theme.

If I had spent longer than 3 minutes making it, most definitely.

I'm interested to here some impressions of Toy Soldiers. I just threw it on my queue but probably won't play it until the weekend with Battlefield in my drive.

I played the demo for a bit, and was pretty impressed with it. I'm not going to pay $15 for it, though. If it drops to $10, I'll probably grab it.

Don't hold your breath. M$ is pretty stingy with the price cuts. I've got several "when it's 400 points" and "when it's 800 points" games on my list. Still waiting....

I love when the deal of the weak (ha!) is a discounted set of avatar armor from a game that's almost 2 years old.

I'm saving my coin for Scrap Metal, which drops next week, I believe? It looks to scratch that Super Off Road/Twisted Metal/RC Pro-Am itch that we've all had for the past decade.

We've all had that itch right?

Maybe I should see a doctor.

This is probably the first batch of MS-backed XBLA games that I've had little interest in. I mean, Perfect Dark was cool... when I was sixteen. I'm pretty sure that any nostalgia I had for it would be absolutely wrecked if I played it now.

I'd definitely love to hear some impressions on Toy Soldiers and Scrap Metal, though!

I disagree I think that Perfect Dark is easily the best game that will be released on xbla this year, I love it and can't wait for the game to be released.

Toy Soldiers demo just made me smile so much I bought it immediately, its got the addictive tower defense stuff mixed in with controlling your guns or vehicles whenever you want to mow down hordes of tiny plastic soldiers. I like its sound and style too.

My one gripe so far is probably the flying, I can't operate that plane very well and its pretty key in some levels. So far the boss fights are pretty ridiculous in a good way.

I'm right there with ya. Some of my best gaming memories are of Twisted Metal.

You know, if it's is truly faithful to the original game, I think that Perfect Dark may really surprise some people. It's not really the same game as GoldenEye, even though it is built on top of the same engine; there are things in PD (disarms, all sorts of crazy weaponry, customizable characters) that still aren't in most multiplayer FPS games today.

The big issue with PD at the time was the sheer performance of the thing. Even with the N64 expansion pak, multiplayer split screen matches would just crawl, especially if you were playing with/against "simulant" bot characters. Unless it's a complete disaster, the XBLA remake should resolve most of that, while adding online play as a cherry on top.

All of the games in the Block Party look interesting, but Perfect Dark is the only one that I'm even remotely tempted to blind buy...and, given how heavily I rely upon (and advocate) demos for these games, I feel like that's saying something.

Someone help me out and give me a good reason not to buy Toy Soldiers, please.

That trial was mad fun. I don't like RTS, but I do like Tower Defense, and I think this one leans more to the Tower Defense side. I also love flight combat.

So yeah. I really don't need anymore games right now. Talk me down.

If you liked the Trial than you will really like the full game

Im really diggin toy soldiers.

That is all.

Way to talk him down, guys.

*Note to self: Try Toy Soldiers demo tonight

I played the Toy soldiers Demo and was impressed. I anticipate picking it up soon, probably this weekend along with PB Winterbottom.

Just read Tycho's recommendation and will be checking this out tonight. Anything recommendation that namechecks Moonbase Commander gets a look from me.

Is Toy Soldiers anything like the Wil Wheaton movie?

Also: Every time I see the title, I picture Buzz and Woody from Toy Story singing One Tin Soldier.

Impulse bought Toy Soldiers, have been playing it much of the weekend. I think it's a great arcade purchase, worthy of a few hours of fun (more if you get into multi-player, I'm sure).

Lots of intelligence brought to the game, and enough of a mix of genres and visuals that I didn't even consider it as a tower defense game until I read someone else's description.

The first boss, the bizarre Tsar Tank, was real by the way. A complete failure, for obvious reasons when you see it in game...

I'm currently stuck on the level with a train boss. It's a long complicated level and I can get through to the end just fine, when the train smashes my toy box and it's all over, making me annoyed that there doesn't appear to be an in-mission save (hopefully I'm just missing it?)

I, too, am loving Toy Solders. I'm also seriously considering a Greed Corp. purchase.

Rabbit, any impressions?

I can't clear the railgun train level even on easy ... Dunno what else I'm supposed to do. By the time it appears, I have the entire board locked down, everything focussed on anti armor.
