Portal 2 Catch-All

Via Ars Technica by way of Game Informer.

No real details have been revealed, although the game will be a "full-fledged, standalone sequel," as opposed to the original, which came packaged with The Orange Box.

I wonder when the complaining starts.

Edit: Coming during the "holidays" according to Valve.

Double edit: And I guess this means I better get Portal, then. Any good things to say about the XBLA version?

GladOS's compartment retaken by nature, eh?

RIGHT NOW

The cake's a lie, but the bacon isn't.

Oh dear lord, if bacon was the object of the game, I'd buy 10 copies plus 2 more.

I want more cake!

I want!

Surprising it is not made into a package deal. I guess Episode 3 is still very far off

I squeed. Out loud. At the office.

And I think a little pee came out.

I am interested, as Portal was the ONLY Valve game I've finished, or even enjoyed.

Here's hoping the formula isn't spread too thin across a larger game.

TRIUMPH! HUGE SUCCESS! SATISFACTION!

This, plus a little pee from the excitement.

Intriguing..... I loves me some Valve-induced hype.

The cake is obviously HL2:Episode 3.

How many portal1s make a full portal2?

The guys on the Penny Arcade forums have this:

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes.Portal 2 draws from the award-winning formula of innovative gameplay, story, and music that earned the original Portal over 70 industry accolades and created a cult following. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

It's the Golden Age of gaming, i tell ya!

Just when I thought I was a completely jaded adult, Valve brings out that 6-year-old-trying-to-sleep-on-christmas-eve excitement again.

I uh... I don't remember that lyric.

I debated whether to post this, but since we're putting up things gleaned from the internet, here is something you shouldn't click on.

Spoiler zone! Don't click here! Spoilers!

Cooperative. Portal.

Holy crap.

What's sad about this is that there's no way that Portal 2 will be as good as the first one, because we had such low expectations of the original. It was a cheap, short game, and ended up WAY overdelivering. We'll have much higher expectations this time, and we will inevitably be a little disappointed.

Ah, I was wondering where that little dark cloud was...

You must have just read Elysium's front page article.

I'm still excited. I don't care. Sometimes, every once in a while, things deliver even more than our heightened expectations. Like Dragon Age, for us BG/BGII lovers. I will be faithful to my weighted companion cube.

This whole "holiday" thing is a tautology, as whatever day this drops will be a holiday for me.

Maybe that's what they are hoping, since Valve timelines are less than useless in gauging actual release dates.

I'm excited though.

Quoted for using the term tautology.

Portal 2 was in beta when I playtested L4D2 in Spring 2009. I'd be really surprised if the game wasn't a lock for this Fall.

Is it Christmas yet? Steam maybe on the Mac. Now Portal 2 announcement
