Beggars *can be* choosers

Apparently beggars can be choosers. One man saw the meal that a local church catered for a group of homeless men and said: "That's not a special dinner. That's the usual Thanksgiving dinner we get." He now plans to protest the charitable church

Beggers have their own sense of dignity.

I bought a sourdough sandwich at Jack in the Box for a beggar once. I tossed it to him as I was walking out the door. He stopped me and berated me for throwing it to him instead of handing it to him. I can see where he''s coming from, he''s not a og. On the flipside, though, I was in a hurry...

I''m reminded of the old adage that says ""you can tell me what to do, or you can tell me how to do it - but not both"". The audacity of some people is amazing. Maybe if they were forced to work for something instead of it being handed to them, they would have less energy to complain.

Sadly, most of those homeless people are former HP and IBM software developers that lost their jobs to India.

Seriously though, I think forcing people to work is impossible. I do favor drastically cutting back welfare as a means to motivate people to get a job as opposed to sitting around doing nothing, but it''s just not that easy.
First, they have to find something their qualfied for, and they have to find someone that will hire them. Getting a job isn''t easy when you have no permanent address.

Getting a job isn''t easy when you have no permanent address.

Or when you don''t have a phone number as well.

Getting a job to get out of being homeless isn''t very easy, though it''s certainly possible.

You could always make them work for the foodyouare giving them...and this includes soup kitchens and shelters. Just a thought.

Well, did you really toss him the sandwich or did you whip it at his head and say ""EAT THAT BEGGAR!!!!""

In the latter case I can see why he might be upset.

I think he might have handed the sandwich nicely, but then grabbed his crotch and said ""Eatthisbeggar!!!""

Totally different connotation...

There is something seriously wrong with you people.

If you throw a sandwich at me I''ll just eat it and then flip you off when you aren''t looking.

You know, if we did this, and allowed it to count on a resume and provide good evidence to the company that you''re applying to that you are willing to work hard, that might just work.
