Darksiders Catch-all

Ah okay. Pretty much what I assumed. Thanks!

aaaaaaaand done again, with 100% achievements this time.

Seriously, with the Abyssal armour and knowing how everything works, a playthrough on Armageddon is literally just as simple as it was on easy.

One question remains: Is there a soundtrack available somewhere for this game?

Not yet... but I'm waiting for one as well.

Okay I'm probably a filthy skimmer but I haven't played this game, simply watching my roommate play, and I asked him this but he couldn't give me a definitive answer:

What's a Darksider? Anyone who's beaten the game figure that out? Is it something to figure out? Is it explained at all?

Whenever I hear about this game all I can think of is that Fat, toothless chick from Wife Swap that became an early YouTube meme back in 2005 or so, "DARKSIDED! YOU ALL IS DARKSIDED! DEVILSSSS!"

"DORKSIDED!"

When it comes to the "Analysts talk out of their ass" department, this has got to be the most impressive one in a while.

Greenwald declares that Darksiders was a failure because he estimated sales were low despite heavy marketing dollars.

Cut to 24 hours later: THQ announces during a conference call to investors that Darksiders was a surprise success (due to being released immediately post-holiday with a lower-than-usual marketing budget), passing 1.2 million copies in the first month, and they already greenlighted a sequel.

Well, a sequel makes me happy. I had fun with Darksiders, and will likely preorder the new one just based on my previous experience.

Just finished the cathedral actually. I don't know if you were using Abyssal Armour or not when you went through it but those two axemen were a piece of cake with it equipped (a mix of dodging around like a loon combined with the reduced damage/health leech from the armour, plus a separate health-leech item in the scythe meant I took a couple of direct hits but never dropped below the first health bar )

This isn't really very helpful for people who haven't already finished the entire game AND collected all 10 hidden pieces of the armor. But uhh, thanks for the advice, I guess.

And, uhh, this added what to the conversation?

And, uhh, what did I just add to the conversation? Nothing. Moving on.

Did your game come with a card with a code on it that said not to lose that card? Well they finally revealed what the code gets you. It's a free copy of Red Faction Guerrilla!

http://www.destructoid.com/darksider...

I would have posted to the actual darksiders site but it seems to be overwhelmed and not responding.

Man, I already have Red Faction, but I guess a "digital Hellbook disc" could always be handy to have around.

Too bad I have RFG for the pc, which is probably where I prefer to play it ... since I upgraded my rig.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just opened my copy and I have a code! Awesome!

Same here! Just ordered it. I was a little scared by the "download now" button for my 360 copy, but it's just a pdf saying "Congratulations for having Darksiders and ordering RF:G! You are AWESOME!". I already knew that, so i was wondering why they were telling me.

A heads up for people on the fence about this game. On February 25th they are releasing a demo that is supposed to be the first 90 mins of the game. It includes the entire first dungeon. I highly recommend you give it a try.

It's got to be one or the other. The first dungeon was at least 90 minutes from my playtime.

Now they announce you don't even need a code. Anyone who bought Darksiders new can get a free copy of Red Faction guerrilla.

Well that's just odd. I guess they were flooded with complaints?

So I finally started this game and I am in love with it. I'm a huge Zelda fan and Darksiders just hits all the right buttons for me. What's entertaining in my case is comparing it to Zelda.

Opening my first chest made me laugh. Who needs a key when you can just PUNCH it open? I love this guy!

I just finished tonight. What a great ride. I'm looking forward to meeting the other three riders in the sequel.

Go check it out. The demo is a big chunk of the game, like 90 mins or so. Even Tom Chick likes it.

I tried the God of War 3 demo and just wasn't into it. Afterwards I played through the Darksiders demo then went out and bought it. It's borrowing ideas from a bunch of games but the sources are good games. I thought it'd be a button masher but there are some fights and setups where you definitely have to use strategy. I find the dodge/block mechanic inconsistent sometimes but other than that it's tons of fun.

The button presses are delayed. I'm trying to manage it as best as I can but after walking off a cliff for the 50th time, it can get infuriating. I don't even bother blocking because even if I react in time, War still takes half a second to put is arms up. Also, in order to block, War has to be still. If you're moving and hit the RB button, he automatically dodges. I dodge exclusively now.

I still love this game though. War is forgiven.

Being unable to block boss moves is a given but getting trounced by regular enemy moves while blocking is confusing design. So I just dodge as well. Maybe my timing is off...but there are instances where I scratch my head at War taking damage when he's definitely clear of the attack graphic (esp. in the Tiamat fight). Regardless, the dungeon/puzzle/everything design is so cool that it makes up for any minor speed bumps along the way.

There are some interesting trophies, too. Got the High Flier one earlier.

EDIT- After playing awhile...the dungeons/bosses/puzzles are sweet but the stuff in between is tiresome.

Darksiders OST is available on Amazon now if anyone is interested.

I beat the game a few days ago and I can't wait for the next installment. The combat was a little wonky at times but besides that, I have nothing but love for it.

I've played some of the demo. Have to say, I'm surprised.

I needed a walkthrough almost immediately, because I didn't know what I could interact with in the environment. Once I got the hang of what kinds of things were usable, it got surprisingly fun.

I may have to pick this one up.

This is similar to my experience as well - I was stuck just a few minutes in the dungeon for half an hour before I realized I could push a block. After that, though, things went swimmingly!

I think I'll look to pick this up.

Same feelings here, exactly.

Spoiler:

One of the moments that made me go 'wow' was the Stygian fight. Blasting across the desert on a hellsteed fighting that thing was so wild.

I tried the demo, and I think these types of games just aren't for me. I find the "There's Always Another Absurdly Locked Door" mechanic very grueling, and coming off the God of War demo was like leaping from a Ferrari to land at the lever of a Handcar. Maybe I'll revisit it in the coming months, and see it in a better light, but I did a lot of audible groaning during the demo.
