Sept 19th to 25th

I was going to moan and groan about spending my weekend gutting and renovating my washroom but this week's release list has pierced my despair and left me with...well, a lot of games to play. Mind you, the bathroom isn't done yet so...yeah. Picking a Game of the Week has been tough, there are some stellar selection for almost every system but in the end, we have to go with what has the chance to give us the most unique experience. Coming out this week for the Xbox, PS2 and PC, Indigo Prophecy has been garnering some very strong buzz for being a very new kind of adventure game experience. Keep an eye out for it.

Comments

Hmm, I guess my wallet's going to take a hit this week. I'll certainly pick up the add-on to Warhammer and Myst V. I'll wait on the reviews of Madden for the PSP and Tiger Woods. Man, I've got to remember the 360 is just 2 months away...

We Love Katamari looks mighty tasty to me. This is the only thing I will be getting (hopefully will pick up Planescape, Darkwatch, Gothic 2, and Xenogears sometime this week as well).

If you don't pick up Indigo Prophecy, you're all dead to me. I've been playing it obsessively all weekend. Excellent game.

Any chance for a more detailed review?

This has been on my radar, but I was wondering whether it was an immediate must-have or just a plain good? Given that I tend to order stuff from the UK these days (to avoid the loss of quality from translation which seems to be endemic in the game industry), I tend to bundle my orders to minimise shipping, and I'm becoming more picky.

Hum. I do believe I'll attempt to post some coherent thoughts later. But the capsule review is: A must for any gentleman of taste. Although far from perfect, it more than makes up for it by being a fresh, compelling experience that's adult in the good way.

PC Gamer knocked Indigo Prophecy for its console controls that didnt translate to the PC very well at all.. any truth?

The demo's controls didn't seem wildly out of kilter to me, but that's hardly a strong rebuttal.

It'd definitely be easier to play on a gamepad, yes.

Is the US release censored? I read the UK release had some sex scenes that were cut from the US release because of the GTA:SA fiasco.

KA-TA-MA-RI, DO YOUR BEST! <3

Short Summary of the Hot Coffee Scandal

When the PC version of SA came out someone made a mod for it that added some crudely animated and fully clothed sex scenes. This was a problem because it is infinitely worse to have sex with a hooker than it is to kill her. Jack Thompson started his crusade for purity and demanded an investigation. Rockstar claimed the mod added all the content and it wasn't their fault.

Then someone unlocked the same content on the PS2 version using a cheat device (I think it was ARMAX). As a result, the game's rating was changed from Mature to Adult Only, which meant most retailers wouldn't carry it. That cost the retailers a couple million dollars. Whoops.

The original versions that still carry the naughty scenes are now worth two to three times their retail price. The re-release is exactly the same as the original release, but lacks this hidden content. For all but the most bored and immature players, the two versions play exactly the same in all ways.

After browsing through the Atari forums, it looks like the US version has been censored to be able to drop it down to a "M" rating.

Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.....

I can't wait for We Love Katamari; in anticipation, I've been replaying the old one, and I'm too good at it. So I need a new challenge, but one that also involves rolling balls over screaming children. Tommorow, I shall be satiated!

So I should look for the Euro version, then, I guess.

I would love to pickup the DoW expansion pack and X-Men Legends 2, but I think I'll have to wait a week or two on both of them.

Neverwinter Nights: Kingmaker

Whenever I see "Kingmaker" I think of that Simpson's episode where Homer is a king trying to have a son for a prince and the old woman who always gives birth to boys says "come take a ride on the kingmaker!"

Note that it's Fahrenheit outside the US.

I, too, am likely to go for the UK version when I can find the means (used, GoGamer, etc.) and thus not pick it up when it shows up locally.

Also, given the following Adventure Gamers article, I doubt the 20 September date quoted above for the US; I think it's elsewhere.

GameFly says 9/22 for the console versions.

In the grim darkness ofthe far future there is only war, and I love it. I just bought WarHammer 40,000 Dawn of War last week and I can't wait for the expansion. It was pretty true to the tabletop game.

Gonna get We Love Katamari for my fiancee for our anniversay but I still have some time to get that.

I had great fun with the OXM demo of Indigo, though I am thinking it will be a rental, I imagine it will be rather short.

Since I've recently become addicted to Advance Wars: DS (finished the campaign a couple of days ago) Battalion Wars is now calling, calling, calling my name.........

Has anyone played the new Warhammer Expansion yet. I am picking it up today after work and was just wondering how it was. I think it would also be nice to play against anyone who is gonna get it online.
