Red Dead Redemption Catch-all

The last trailer was fantastic. Until now I wasn't impressed by the game, from what I had heard it seemed like it's GUN 2 but if they really pull those things off, it should be even better than GTA (which I know dislike quite a lot). I miss games made in the wild west, GUN and Desperados were quite awesome. Too bad it's not on PC.

Uh-oh....this doesn't sound good...

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/sources-red-dead-redemption-development-in-trouble/

...we were also told about the allegedly troubled state of Red Dead Redemption. One source said that the game "was a complete disaster for most of 2009 and previous ... it has since turned around a little bit, but there are huge problems with it still." Unsurprisingly, the issues with the game are repeatedly claimed to be the result of mismanagement -- along the same lines as what was mentioned in the recent "Rockstar spouse" letter.
"The functional team that was Midnight Club was shattered. All the people who didn't quit or get fired were thrown onto Red Dead Redemption, many of them being demoted. The completely disfunctional team that is RDR was put to top priority. The people who had floundered on that project or outright screwed it up were promoted and are now in complete control of the studio, and they're running it into the ground."

Well this article makes me want to step back from a day one purchase, and take a more wait and see position. Though I did love Red Dead Revolver so it will be hard to wait and see.

It wouldn't hurt to wait a week. Most of the reviews will be out by then and you will be able to make an informed decision.

The gameplay trailers I've seen have all been fairly pretty, but very choppy. If they can't even get a solid framerate out of the engine for their pre-release trailers the odds of it being smooth to play seem pretty bad.

Man, that trailer looks amazing. I wish it was going to be a pc release. Ah well, I might have to keep an eye on it anyway and get it on the PS3 if reviews are good.

Yeah, I noted over in the "A New EA Spouse Controversy, Now At Rockstar San Diego" thread that ethical questions aside, when you hear a programming project is in what sounds like a death march, there's a good chance the resulting product will be crap.

Even if it looks good, a memorable game has focus and direction on what it's trying to do. Too bad if all these rumors are true. I was really excited for this simply because it's one of the handful of games my wife looked at a trailer for and actually showed some interest in.

New trailer: The Women of Red Dead Redemption

It's still looking fantastic but, with the rumours that it might be broken, I think I'll let the release day smoke clear and wait to see what people think about the game are a few weeks later.

I haven't heard these rumors. What exactly do they mean by "broken"?

There was internal studio problems and the employees were allegedly overworked.

That video did look pretty good but something looked off and I'm getting the gut feeling that its not running in 720p. It has that pixelated colors thing going that GTA IV did, which ended up looking pretty ugly on a 1080p panel.

Having watched The Good, The Bad and The Ugly a week ago, I'm pretty excited to see a good western game. Not sure if this is going to be it, but I hope they manage to pull it off. I even liked GUN, so it's not like my standard are high.

Get your fix by grabbing the 1866 Western mod for Mount & Blade. Until then, I'm going with the crowd on the wait-and-see approach to RDR.

All the videos I've seen make the game look very promising. An Old West style game would be a nice change of pace right about now. I had a $10-off promo at Amazon that was about to expire, so I preordered it, using GWJ's Amazon search of course.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Red Dead Redemption has slipped to the 18th of may. Kind of a bummer that it comes out the same day as Alan Wake.

I'm ok with that if it means they are making sure it's right.

Yes, and while delays aren't fun, it's not like we're lacking in sh*t to be excited for in the coming months.

Yeah, I've got plenty on my plate right now. A May release will give me some time to finish some stuff up first.

Yea, I'm fine with that. I was just hoping to get some time in with Red Dead Redemption before I started on Alan Wake. Now I have to choose which one to start first, and I hate making these decisions.

Amazon has a $10 gift card for pre-orders.

They are also undercutting on price ($57 instead of $60). This might push me into preorder realm; it's one of the very few games my wife has shown interest in. Thanks.

The latest RDR Gameplay Series video went up a few days ago and man is it a looker.

HD version here.

I was mentioning in another thread that I'm pretty sandbox-fatigued these days, but damn if this footage doesn't rekindle my desire to dive back in.

The setting, landscape and character design looks so darn fresh that I can't wait to explore this wild western last frontier.

Some confusing sounding stuff was leaked about a "comprehensive " multiplayer.

“Read Dead Redemption has an extensive multiplayer mode. Instead of a lobby, it begins with a free-roaming multiplayer mode where players can run freely through the game world. They can form gangs with other players they meet there, and this transition can be computer controlled bandits.”

Also mentioned were the Usual Suspects: CTF variant, Deathmatch, Something about collecting gold.

I suspect theres still more here to be revealed. I suspect, I hope.

Here's the link, but I jsut gave you all the good stuff:

1up.com had an interesting article about their crazy , cinema focused marketing plan.
The idea being that as spagetti westerns are naturally cinematic, thats the best place to advertise the game. I hope it works out.

Ill rumours aside, that was a pretty awesome trailer. I am looking forward to this.

This is another game I'm willing to be good. A western game of the quality suggested by the trailers would make my decade.

Life in the West Pt. 2 is up.

Anticipation heating up.

Ohgodohgodohgod! Do not suck Red Dead, do not suck!

I want "strategic use of a bandanna" and I wants it now!

Aaron's comments get all the glory!

Aussie Journalist Sacked over Red Dead comments:

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=...

Said journalist gets fired over publishing an email sent to him regading RDR's coverag on facebook.
It looks like the journalist is trying to play this like he was making a stand against game companies effecting reviews. But it comes off more like he's just a dick.

Rockstar's email to him seems more like," hey we put a lot into this game, don't be so flippant" and less a Kane and Lynch type fiasco.

EDIT: Yes I know it's already covered in another thread, but I think it should be in the catch-all.

I am looking forward to this game more than any other in recent memory. These videos are amazing; I hope the game can live up to them. Just Cause 2 had a great video campaign and I'm enjoying the game, but the videos oversold the insanity a bit -- the game gets in the way of the fun sometimes. I'm hoping RDR will play as well as it shows.
