All my Steam friends are gone - fixed? 7:55 PM EST

Phishposer in IRC alerted us to this, some people have lost all their friends but not everyone in the channel has. Anyone heard anything why?

EDIT: Floomi posted this link, people are saying they'll be back... so has this happened before? Anyone got a more reliable source? :p

EDIT2: Official Steam forum thread on the subject. Valve says they're working on it.

Mine are gone too, never seen that happen before. I think Gabe Newell mistook them for sandwiches and ate them without looking.

There is a huge thread now on the steam forums about this with only one response from Valve.

I'd be happy to look into the issue, but can't do so without specific information about your account. If you can post your account name or a link to your account page, I can't get started with the investigation. Any other relevant information also helps.

I don't think he got the response he was looking for. After 50 or so pages of links to profiles he is now offline.

My friends are gone, but I now can see all my groups and the people in them in my friends window.

I have this. Weird.

I saw this link at the end of that thread and its pretty funny. I don't hate Steam at all and it made me giggle a few times.

If you don't have any friends, you can't lose them.

I also have no friends.

Same as DanyBoy. Steam installed an update to "fix offline mode not working", but no change.

I remember that from back in the day. Thanks for finding it for me. *saves*

Also, I see a few invites but I'm going to avoid adding friends for now until word from Valve.

The only nice thing about losing my friends list today is that I no longer have to look at certain people, cough*Edwin*cough, playing the SC2 beta, while I sit here with my fingers crossed waiting for a key.

I saw that once and haven't logged on to Steam since.

That is awesome! And I'm going to be working on some dialog text later this evening! YOINK!

My friends are back.

Did you guys sign up for the new UI Beta update? I just did, it installed an updated version of Steam and now I can't login at all... GRRRRRR!!!

Here's the info on the new UI and how to get it but until they fix it, there's really no point.

Looks pretty cool based on the pictures - but I got the same problem LockAndLoad seems to run into. When I launch the client, it's trying to load - but shuts down again shortly afterwards.

I updated to the new client. I've had one crash, but after that everything seems to work fine. It looks nice, and has a lot of slick new features, but it also seems to have been designed to take up as much screen space as possible. Huge fonts, lots of blank space, and some of the old options to use smaller windows (like the game list) are gone completely.

I waited to log into Steam today until after people reported the friends list was fixed. All my contacts were intact except for the people who tried to re-add me manually. Those contacts were removed from my friends list until after I accepted the invites.

Go to this thread for new UI discussion.
