What classic game would you like to see remade?

If you still find the game itself engaging and interesting, worth playing, a modern remake with better graphics might be worthwhile, but there are very few that are.

To wit: X-Com.

Wing Commander III and IV
I'm a big Fallout fan, I'd enjoy seeing a new Wasteland.

I'd agree with all of these suggestions. But I have to say that I liked Privateer more than the wing commander series.

If Starcraft II could remake SC1, that would be awesome too.

I expect that to be the first SC2 mod. Well, it might take longer than some of the tower defense mods.

On the same idea of this, I'd love to see Mass Effect 1 remade with the changes done to Mass Effect 2.

X-Com *has* been remade. It was a pretty good remake too - I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lets see if I can find the game back... here it is!

Not the same X-com line, but very very similar. And ooo looks like they're making version 2!

Oh, and second the Mass Effect 1 remake. A Platinum release of all three games redone into the latest engine and as one complete story-line would be absolutely fantastic.

Lemme see...

Star Tropics, it could be given the 3D Zelda treatment without becoming bogged by its own legacy, therefore exploring more sci-fi oriented themes and gameplay mechanics.

Star Control 2...

Double Dragon, though no one seems able to pull off a good brawler any more.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. Not enough people played this beauty. I just sold my copy on ebay over the holidays... wasn't doing much any more and I'm past my pack-rat days. Would go ga-ga over an xbo360/PS3 remake.

Seiken Densetsu 3, otherwise known as Secret of Mana 2.

Syndicate, as mentioned countless times before.

Shadow of the Ninja, a natsume jewel that took the best out of Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi and merged it. I played this one to death on the NES.

Einhander.

W.U.R.M., another obscure NES title I thoroughly enjoyed.

Zork. A new game set in this game world or a graphical remake of the original.

Final Fantasy VI... of all the FF's that could to be remade, this one should be the first. And I'm not talking DS remake but the full-fledged current-gen treatment.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace. Very challenging NES game.

Tomba!, the first one was platforming bliss, the second not so much...

Wizards and Warriors...

Faxanadu, I believe I read in an earlier post.

Kickle Cubicle... yet another obscure NES game. A Puzzle adventure. Spent so many hours with my sister playing this. I still fire it up on an emulator now and then.

I just remember playing Mechwarrior 3050 on the Sega Mega Drive. And Jungle Strike!! Oh oh oh, and Urban Strike.

Ah man, so many awesome games...

I think an actual zork universe game could work pretty well, and I don't mean that phony baloney free to play version

X-Wing / Tie Fighter / X-Wing Alliance

Plus with actual graphics maybe I could see what the hell a grue is.

Majora's Mask. Also, a sequel to Majora's Mask. Or at least a spiritual successor, even if it was in a different series. The same concept in the Mario universe would be pretty interesting.

Phantasie

Miner 2049er

Hard Hat Mack

So is that Phantasy Star by Sega, or Phantasie the CRPG by SSi? I could certainly support the latter.

No, I meant Phantasie the CRPG.

Oops.

I thought the fan translation for this was excellent. Great game, too: much more depth than Secret of Mana. So weird how they never shipped this one to NA, seemed like it would've been a surefire winner.

I say this just about every time one of these threads pops up, but:
The Guardian Legend - It was a NES dual-genre/gameplay type game with sh'mup and exploration Zelda 1 w/ guns style game play.

I'm ready to see a return of games based on alternative campaign settings for D&D.

I payed 40$ for it and it looks like an X-com knockoff with less features. It's can be enjoyable unlike moo3 but I didn't play it much so I guess I payed too much for it. Maybe I should reinstall it with patches. One thing that's funny about this game is how soldiers miss the aliens when they shoot them from point blank range.

I was hoping they'll finish Jagged Alliance 3 on the Silent storm engine which is in general a pretty good idea but the whole project was canceled. In terms of physics the Silent storm engine does a good job but The AI is a little slow considering how fast computers are today.

The JA2 community is thinking about developing "version 1.14" on a new graphics engine. It would have been nice if they got access to the silent storm engine since it's built for TBSs but I doubt Nival would let a freeware deving community access to their engine no matter how much they pay( I could be wrong).

Planescape!?!?

Outside of Torment being one of the best games ever, it seemed like this setting had a TON of potential. I could never understand why they didnt choose to expand on it.

Dark Sun!!!!!!!

I spent way-too-many hours of my youth playing AD&D (2nd edition for those recently acquainted with DnD) in the Dark Sun setting. Planescape, too, would be great, but I personally feel that Dark Sun has been neglected for too long. The little hint of it one gets in Shadows of Amn (the dwarves) was a total tease!

Back when Neverwinter Nights first came out I played an MMO based on Dark Sun using the Aurora Toolset, it was great. If only Black Isle would have taken the plunge there.

Ok, this may not be a true 'classic'.. and I think the servers might even be running still... But..

PlanetSide!
The game had so many awesome features and worked so well it was such a pity the developers went all cash strapped and broke up the servers into 'extra paid content'. Best multiplayer experiences of my life. The whole concept needs to be remade into a brand new game

Total Annihilation
I realise it's been mentioned, but it's worth another one. Supreme Commander was meant to be the 'spiritual successor', but it never really lived up to the premise of expanding the combat to a properly large scale. So I'd put my vote in for 'TA II'.

As an aside.. I wonder how many 'engines' have been made over the history of games. When I think of all the effort and time spent writing code that has disappeared into the ether of 'computer games' ...it boggles the mind!

Yeah, I've played UFO: Extraterrestrials. It's not X-Com.

Pretty close though. I mean, you've got governments to keep happy, aliens flying around abducting people, interceptions of said aliens, investigations of alien crash sites, research of alien weaponry, base management, a world map and tactical move based gameplay!

Maybe it's just been too long since I've played x-com.

River City Ransom, Crash and the Boy's Street Challenge, Super Dodgeball. Notice a theme here?

Reach For The Stars
Elevator Action

I'm going to post Pizza Tycoon for the third time here, yes. I realise there are several sequels and/or remakes, but they STANK.

Sim/tycoon games all seem so bland since I played Pizza Tycoon. Tycoon games need corruption, sabotage, mafia shenanigans. What good is power if you can't abuse it?

UFO: Extraterrestrials tries really hard and should be a worthy successor, given that it has many of the right pieces, but it also lacks many of the things that made X-Com great (you can't design base layouts, soldiers can't be killed, etc.).

I'd throw my vote in for Tie Fighter, but I have little confidence of anything Star Wars getting "remade" without being turned into some empty candy shell which only makes me weep for the lost awesomeness of the previously unspoiled original.

Dark Sun and Planescape are two of the best, underutilized D&D settings, period. Planescape is definitely my personal favorite though. But as to why they get no attention? Because all the authors write for Forgotten Realms. Drizzt, Elminster and that whole gaggle get a ton of attention and money, so it's all most folks know.

Street Fighter 2010, complete with updates to all the awesome music.
