Star Trek Online Catch-All

For those that aren't sold on mines -- my research vessel loads out with quantum mines and coupled with mine dispersal omega, I drop 8 mines in two groups of 4. They do about 500-700 points on hull AND have the non-so-known ability to destroy any heavy plasma torpedoes shot by chasing them down before they get to me. That's nice when facing those Rommies and their loaded out Birds of Prey.

Ah, finally, I too can run with the Picards.

What he said. Very nice.

I love how it looks a lot like a cobra.

"I tell you what, flying a slow orbit around DS9 in my Galaxy Class is worth $60, right there."

See?! I'm not jealous... *storms off in a huff*

I really am enjoying this game. For all of you playing, I encourage you to really enjoy this one. I have no idea what the end-game could possibly be like, and I want to think it's not much until at least the 45-day patch. So, enjoy the times when the game shines, and when the story takes you away somewhere else that only Star Trek can take you. I can't possibly imagine what the Rank 10 Admirals are doing right now, but I sure as hell enjoyed my Romulan story arc and I and practically giddy starting my DS9 arc. This is a trekkie dream.

The Romulan Arc is quite fun. I get immersed in the story-telling aspect of it as well. I'm no Captain though, only a mere Commander. Still, wait. There are rank 10 Admirals already running around? Jeez, think of that life.

I think the Captain level cruiser is going to be the first and only ship I leave as a standard configuration. No mixing and matching for me, just straight Enterprise.

As for missions, I'm still running missions that are a level or two below me simply because I'm doing every mission I can get my hands on. Does the game hold your hand to subsequent series of missions up to the at least the captain level or will there come a time when I'll need to go to a particular base to seek out quest givers without being prompted? So far every quest giver has led me to another and just by checking in through hailing starfleet has allowed me to have a constant stream of quests.

I have only followed the bread crumbs as you describe. If there are other, unknown quest givers... ?

EDIT

I also figured there would be a million Enterprise D's running around. I wanted my exploration cruiser to be BIG, so it looks like the Enterprise to me, but BIGGER

I didn't see this in the thread, though it's possible I missed it: is there a GWJ chat channel aside from the fleet one? Because I'd love to hang out with some of you guys, but I'm staying fleeted with my guild from DAoC/SWG/WoW/AoC/WoW/WAR/WoW.

I think there was one in Beta, but since most people use the fleet chat I don't know how many would monitor it, even if I knew what it was.

It used to just be "GWJ". I haven't checked since actual launch however. You can always just hang out in Vent... which I never do. Guess I'll get around to that one day.

Anyone else having problems with custom power settings being saved; or in general having things remove themselves from the hot key bars? When I reached Commander I can't seem to save a Custom power configuration anymore and ever since Monday every time I beam to the ground my first hot key slot (#1) always disappears, also whenever I train a BO skill that hot key disappears.

The in game chat channel is still GWJ.

Vent is still the easiest place to meet. We also have a Steam group I think.

My copy just arrived today. If I could get an invite, I'm GioClark@GioClark.

Here's a bridge shot of the U.S.S. Tesla. Apparently, people who order off Amazon get a free Borg bridge officer:

They fixed Aceton field. Some other good "yep, that was annoying" fixes. Keep at it Devs!

So far I've run 3 different fleet actions and I'm actually enjoying them as a break from the standard missions. The first intro fleet action lasted about 20 minutes but the next two have lasted about 45 minutes each. The one difficulty is that no one seems to group up in these instances and there's no communication. You'll have people flying off attacking things that aren't even current objectives and others simply rushing into every group they can find. Generally the map is won through sheer numbers.

Last night's fleet action was a bit easier to coordinate. Everyone in the instance was in either a Lt or LtC level ship... except for one guy. There was a Captain in the instance flying around in a cruiser that was easily three times as big as my LtC cruiser. Most people just stuck to that guy throughout the mission. The players name was Turk if I recall. Anyway, seeing over a dozen Federation ships pounding a Klingon dreadnought was just great. It really felt like one of those huge battle segments from the TV shows. Oh, and I also got 3 pieces of really nice green weapons loot so that helped too.

I was thinking of starting a thread that contained all of our knowledge so far on STO. Something like, "Things I wish I knew before I started STO"! This way anyone new and old could have a source for knowledge...

Thoughts?

Well I would like word on respecs... However, I was impressed when I logged in - we are only a little over a week old and just show little improvements. This give me hope for the future of STO.

I've been in fleet actions that I thought were empty aside from one or two others, then after quite a bit of exploration, found the mass of 20+ players.

I've seen Turk in a fleet action as well. I often see one or two really high-levels in a fleet action. Not sure if they're farming or what.

Yeah, I really wish they would at least display friendly ships on the area map. I mean, we're all supposed to be Federation ships. Seems like we'd have some kind of IFF going so we knew where our allies are.

Some of the earlier fleet actions were bugged, and K7 was offline a few days back at the beginning, so if you leveled up past this content you have to go back and do it in order to do the higer level stuff. I was in Starbase 24 (the noob noob fleet action) with my Galaxy class yesterday.

Here's an interesting article on skills:

http://theenginescannaetakeit.wordpr...

Pics are nice, but my goodness they certainly look like they use space inefficiently on those ships, which seems odd. Space should be at a premium on a vessel. If that were a real ship everyone would be crammed together. The bridge is like 5 times more spacious, with less actual personnel using it, than any bridge seen in any trek show.
