Snowgorok: The Fourpeat!

Looks like the area Robear, Kiri, Purevil, and I live in is due to get hit with another 8-16". And my street isn't plowed yet.

Good title, Paleo.

I hope you guys are stocked for the weather and don't have too much trouble over the next few days/week.

Y'all definitely need to send some of that out west.

Well it is winter, that's when it's supposed to snow.

Is this the storm happening now, or is this yet another storm? Because I'm losing track >.>

We're looking to get hit with about a foot of that too. My girls are both hoping for a couple of snow days later this week.

Hell, I'm hoping for a snow day off of work tomorrow. My area of New Jersey is supposed to get 6-18" and I'm going to have to "work from home*" if the sitter can't make it... which would be a shame.

*working from home will include playing outside, drinking hot cocoa, and watching various Backyardigans dvds on the couch with my daughter

That's supposed to start in about two hours. There is another one right behind it that is due to hit Monday through Wednesday.

Wow, ridiculousness for you guys. Just to give some context, it's been a ridiculously light winter for us in Eastern Canada - very mild (relatively) temps with almost no snow in January.

But you guys are getting to the point where you need a stickied snowmageddon catch-all!

I'm actually enjoying a little schadenfraude here. At what point do I get to ask if everyone in Maryland lives in Igloos?

This is actually your snow, btw. An abnormally warm South Pacific El Nino shifted the Pacific Jet Stream and is pushing the moisture further south toward us.

Like I said. It's time to kill the little Spanish kid.

Paleo, current forecast is still 10-20" for us. We're going to see temps in the high 30's the next few days, which should provide us with plenty of ice overnight. Maximal disruption.

I am SOOOO thankful for underground power. Biggest problem here will be where to put the new snow. But the older snow has compressed at least a foot, so that should make the shovelling a bit easier, won't have to throw as high.

It completely boggles my mind that power companies are still installing above ground power lines.

Holy smokes, that is ridiculous. I wonder if we're due to get any of that one. Have fun with today's storm though, we've gotten 4 inches so far with 2-4 more to come, and going by past experience, you guys are due for 3-5x more than we're getting. Yech.

It looks like folks in the neighborhood have learned from my example. Half the cars in the lot are tarped now.

Looks like all this snow broke down a weather guy in Baltimore...

They stole our winter. Is there some sort of an international court of injustice we can sue them in?

I'm actually digging the snow (pun intended). I'm working from home today (live in DE, commute to MD) because I won't get stuck down there. And I'll probably be home tomorrow too.

I need to drive from North Carolina to Pennsylvania Thursday night. This snow needs to knock it off so I can have a safe trip.

If you guys get many more storms, you're going to run out of names!

We still haven't used Snowverkill and Gottersnowerrung. I'm sure there are others.

Paleocon wrote:

Gottersnowerrung.

Love this. You must use it.

Well, it's started.

The car is tarped, the fridge is stocked, the shovels are sprayed down with WD40, and the gas tank is full.

Oh, and the snow removal crew is finally here... with a single bobcat.

Fcukwits.

It's amazing how many people still don't believe me when I tell them to do this.

I am curious, why do you do that?

So it burns better when you light it on fire to melt the snow.

What, you don't use flaming snow shovels where you're from?

The wet snow won't stick to the shovel.

Pam (or other non-stick spray) also works.

The "WD" WD-40 = Water Displacement. It's meant to repel water. That was it's original purpose. So yeah, it should help keep the frozen version away too.

These storm threads are severely lacking in pics. I'm having to imagine you all with narrow passageways tunneled out from your homes with the top of the snow walls up over your head so all you can see is sky.

That's how you tell the amateurs from the pros. You don't make a path. You make a tunnel. Screw seeing the sky.

Why do you tarp your cars?

* I live in AZ * I used to tarp my boat, but that was to protect it from the Sun.

Tarping your vehicle makes it easier to dig out.
