I glanced over their forums, and they look pretty excited about this trailer.

You actually.. You, sir, are much more courageous than I could ever be. Hats off!

How else are we supposed to have both achievements and mods?

I just hope it's less buggy. That was my only complaint about Fallout 3. That, and it just made me want a Rifts game more.

Black Isle/Obsidian have never been known for their stable, bug-free releases.

Well, Fallout 3 would go through sections where I had to do a hard reset every couple of minutes. I didn't think I'd be able to beat Broken Steel, it was locking up on me so often. Less of that is all I ask.

Interesting to see that the NCR looks like they'll be cast as villains, from the trailer.

I always kind of liked Shady Sands.

The NCR flag was cool to see. The shadowy figure also has a pipboy, I think.

I thought it was a Helghast who'd gotten lost.

GFWL in FO3 wasn't that bad, because it was optional. In fact if you went and modded it using the script extender, GFWL no longer worked because FOSE interferes with the game.

Yup, caught the NCR flag there. NMA will not be happy until all the original Obsidian developers gathered together and finished the isometric Van Buren game. Even then they'll find something to complain about. Their opinions are beyond the realm of reality and reason and should be treated as such.

Looking forward to this.

I'd like to give this a chance but since it's made by Bethesda, it'll likely be so full of bugs it'll be unplayable.

The Official Site[/url]]Is Fallout New Vegas a Games for Windows title? Will it require Windows?
Fallout: New Vegas is a Games for Windows title. As such, you’ll be able to use an Xbox 360 controller if you choose. New Vegas will run with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

Being a Games for Windows title doesn't always mean it uses GFWL. "Games For Windows" is just branding.

It's not made by Bethesda, it's made by Obsidian. But your point still stands.

Have to confess that after Fallout 3 and a DLC pack or two, I'm kind of done with it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Fallout 3 - it was one of my favourite games, but after ploughing 50+ hours into a title, I'm usually ready to move onto something new, instead of more-of-the-same.

I am as much of a Bethesda complainer as the rest or I should say I used to be. After Battlespire, Daggerfall, Redguard, and Terminator: Future Shock I thought Bethesda was one of the worst companies out there, but pretty much everything since Morrowind has been fine. Sure a few bugs but no more than average.

Thanks for the clarification.

But then you can't kill all those bastards in Little Lamplight.

Strange advice. Assuming you own a system capable of running it, the PC version should always be your first choice in a Bethesda title due to the massive amount of quality user content available. Perhaps you're merely advising on the Xbox/PS3 decision though.

SallyNasty wrote:

I guess I should play Fallout 3 now, shouldn't I.

Definitely. I just started playing the FALLOUT 3 GOTY edition on the 360 this past December. I sank about 100 hours + into it, and I still have 3-4 huge DLC packs I didn't get through yet. Only reason I gave it up was to play Mass Effect 2.

I never really played any of the original Fallout games, so I'm definitely going to be holding this one up next to F3 for comparison Despite the anti-Bethesda comments here, I thought it was an over-all amazing experience.

(if you do decide to get F3 on a console, make sure you get the 360 version-- the PS3 version is reportedly almost unplayable at times)

We have a winner!

Edited the original post for clarity.

I am really excited for this. Fallout 3 was phenomenal. I hope they can take the game and just improve it. I'm not looking for them to reinvent the wheel.

What I really want, though, is Fallout 4; designed by Bethesda and built on id's graphics engine.

And it'll have a sh*tty ending, one that makes you feel like all the time put in was for nothing.

I think the only way they could get worse than the original FO3 ending would be to have your guy wake up and realize "it was all a dream". I hate those endings.

DOH!

GFW was such a nightmare with Fallout 3. And I have repressed all memories of trying to get the DLCs to work.

In any case, this one will be a must have.

I believe the only game-killing bugs were on the PS3 version, though it's still no excuse. Had a couple crashes on the PC but turned out to be an issue with the sound card and Vista (ALchemy fixed it).

Does anyone know if it is going to maintain the FPS style of FO3 or return to the more turn based direction of original franchise? I assumed FO3 but now I realize I don't really know.

My personal feeling is that it should be one or the other, and I somehow think that fully turn based isn't mass appeal that they want for a title like FO now. Getting rid of VATS as it currently is in FO3 doesn't necessarily mean getting rid of VATS altogether, just make it so it's not a straight FPS with "+15% to location damage"

My understanding is that this uses that same Bethesda engine that Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrollses are made with, right? That thing didn't seem to handle 3rd person too good. They could do turn-based FPS, I guess, if they wanted to get hilariously retro, and go Dragon Warrior with it.

But yeah, most anticipated of 2010.

I'm on the complete opposite side. I love getting achievements and I like being able to do it on my PC. It better have GFWL!

Like Space said, I also recall reading that it would use the same engine as FO3, but who knows what they've done with it to change it up, if at all.

This. 1000 times this!!! That Rage engine looks sweet.

For some reason, I saw the robot in and what it was doing in the trailer and thought "WALL-E".

MoonDragon wrote:

I'll have to be a dissenter here. That looked terrible. The robot made no sense. The fully built up and lit up city? Meh. I think I'll wait for a 50% off weekend sale.

It's called a teaser trailer for a reason. It doesn't have to make immediate sense, just pique the viewer's interest in the upcoming title.

I dig it. It certainly gives me more of the old-school Fallout feel, but that might just be the music playing on there. I'm hopeful, maybe I can beat my copy of Fallout 3 before it hits.

Vegas might not have been hit by the bombs. That would explain the condition of the city. And what Fallout robot has ever made sense? They just randomly scoot about waiting to be shot. Some people think it's a scavenger bot, but it looked to me like he was (poorly) burying a dude in the desert. The playing of Sinatra combined with that tells me the mob will play a big part.

As for gameplay, I expect pretty much the same. They appear to be using the GTA method for naming games. Slap a city on the title until a real advancement is made that warrants a number change.
