GWJ Chess Club/Tourno?

Does anyone know if chess.com allows for "Fischer Chess" setups?

Yes they do. They refer to it as Chess 960. It's available as an advanced option in both tourney and normal play games. I've never tried it, but I'm sure I can't be much worse at it than I am at regular chess. I've got you approved on the site and you should be good to go.

BTW, I was thinking about sending a confirmation request to all of you regarding the tournament beginning next week. We have just a bit under 20 members now, but I'm not sure exactly how many are active or interested. Mainly, it's just to help me make sure I have all the matches set-up properly. From the little bit of research I've done, we'll be doing a double round robin tournament, allowing both players at chance to play as white. I thought this would be the fairest option, although it will add a bit of time. The scoring will be 1 pt for a win, 1/2pt for a draw, and 0 for a loss. Once I have everyone's confirmation I'll get the matches scheduled (hopefully through chess.com) and then battle can commence!

Ahhh... Chess. The game of war. (Picks up king and stabs fogrob in the eye) I'm ready

Just posted a confirmation request in our chess.com group forum. Please head over there and confirm your interest. Meanwhile, I'll be busy recovering from a case of "King eye".

It is good to be king.

You guys might want to take note that for one reason or another I didn't get a email when a post was made on the forum. So I'm thinking I won't get one in a game either so I'll have to check the site for updates. Might be the same for you guys.

I noticed the same thing. The notification system on the site is a little wonky. I believe it won't notify you if you've been on the site that day. But, on a positive note, their iphone app is really nice!

yeah I haven't recieved any emails from chess.com yet.

Yes, their notification system sucks hard. Don't trust it.
I also would like to point out that they have a mobile app for regular phones, for us peasants

Just a reminder, today is the last day for the chess.com tourney sign-ups. If you're interested in playing, please respond to the forum post on our group site. Or, if you can't find that, let me know on here and I'll get you set up! I'll be checking between both sites between now and 5 p.m. CST.

And to everyone that's already joined, Good Luck!

When are we starting this?

I just tried to join and it said it was full. Any way to still get in? Sorry, we had all kinds of snow fun over the weekend, and the internets was down a lot because no one in Tennessee knows how to deal with it.

EDIT: Reading comprehension fail, from a mere two posts up. I'm an idiot.

Are the games starting soon? I keep checking the website to make sure I am not missing my turn. Tried to download the chess app for my phone, but it failed.

Had a little hiccup with the settings, but I think that's all fixed now. As soon as Minarchist signs up we're good to go. Apparently, I had set the number of contestants too low and he was unable to join. I'll be checking back on the site very often and will start things off as soon as possible.

Huzzah! I have joined and wrecked our wonderfully even-numbered player count! Although with one more, we could hit a robust 12.

Thanks for the help, fogrob.

And so it has begun...

Just made my first moves, I am pretty sure I am going to lose on the next move in at least one of my games.

I just made my first moves in two games. I think I am on my way to certain defeat!

Ack, I missed the entry for the tournament, but I'll be following the games. Good luck to everyone!

Wait a second, one of those moves was against me, we can't both lose that game, or can we?

I'm pretty sure I already won my first games. I can think 100 moves ahead and can see into your soul. Anyone playing me should just give up.

I threw a request to join the group because finally, with an iPhone app, I may be able to actually play!

I hope they do a android app.

Oh sh*t they already have a app on android.

I like the iPhone app if only for the beeping when it's my turn. I've been able to get quite a few moves done in the 3 games I have going this morning.

Yeah, at least in my group, we all seem to be playing far faster than the 1 move/3 days time limit. It's been really fun. Now, if I could only keep from blundering my Queen away...

I believe I can claim first loss of the tournament.

Looks like liquidmantis takes first blood!

Looks like you've got an immediate opportunity for a retaliatory strike. The initiative is yours this time too.

Oh yesssss, now that I have lured you into a completely justified sense of superiority, it is time for me to fall into your trap again.

MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!

Wait a second??

Admittedly, I was surprised. Still, it's turned out to be a good game. I haven't played a opposite-side castling game in years (well, okay, I hadn't played any chess at all in years), and I forgot how fun they are — basically a big arms race to see who can bust through to the other person's king first. It's like the cold war all over again! Whee!
